  1. Well, I just got back from the faire. I even went in costume. Of course, that's something I would and have done sober, so it's not a big deal. On the other hand, between last night and today, I've probably gone a bit overboard. Ah, but the drink is blessed, so they say. Well, at least so I say. At any rate, we've got to put some more reports in here. I swear, as much as I know pixies is going to fry, flame, and fricassee me, the next person on trial will probably be Atreides. Funny thing about these reviews. The folks who read my reviews always think they're too nice, but the folks for whom I write them tend to think that I'm kind of mean. I must be doing something right. At any rate, I need to get Eldar's side of things first, while I'm feeling no pain. That's it. Then Cant can make his defense later.
  2. I actually see Hassat's posts as a kind of weird testament to Oblivion. I mean, he really likes to tinker with the game. On the other hand, I think he should put some of that effort into mod making. He clearly has the ability to stay on task.
  3. No, there are unlucky people who simply get the shaft in regards to certain titles. There's something about their computer composition, some arrangement of parts, an angry computer gaming god, or perhaps a combination of the above that conspires to make the title unplayable. These people, in a fit of unholy rage, usually descend upon the boards with a zeal unsurpassed by the most religious of fanatics. They can't understand why the game doesn't work for them. They refuse to believe that most players don't encounter the same problems. Now, Hassat is not one of these unhappy gamers. Our friend Hassat has been participating in the Oblivion threads since virtually the very beginning. He's been playing, taking detailed account, and posting pictures the entire time. Darque, you think the game must have a problem because of Hassat Hunter's observations? Let me make an observation: this game has provided hours and hours of fun for Hassat Hunter. Not only has he enjoyed the game long enough to do a whole slew of tests, but also taken some pleasure in recounting his experience here on the message board. Yes, it is clear that Hassat has some sort of agenda. Hassat seems to enjoy searching out or creating problems in order to discuss them here. That's true for Oblivion at the very least.
  4. Doltish! I didn't marry the seventeen year old. I didn't marry any of the first three people in my drunken rant poem. I married my wife, who is going to accompany me to the Renfaire today. I swear the flames of hell are fed by alcohol.
  5. Drink is simply the devil's own weapon.
  6. My best day. I can think of a few days that might seem like best days to other people. I think my best days, however, have come through suffering more than triumph. I just didn't know they were the best at the time. My best days have always come when I did something I didn't want to do, something unpleasant, or even horrible. My best days are those when I do something painful and, afterwards, I think to myself I'd do it exactly the same way again if I had to. I'd much rather have a bunch of pleasant days, to be honest, like the one you described. Best days are just too tough on a guy.
  7. I scratched my previous third run. The character was a bit different from usual, but I thought I'd give her a shot. After playing with her for about twenty minutes. I realized she was just plain ugly. I created a new third run character, named Catherine, and she's the best one of the bunch so far. I'm quite shallow, but I want my character to look pretty.
  8. I voted 35-40, by the way. I figured that it would be around 40, but I opted to err on the side of caution.
  9. Good Lord. I've been drinking a little, so I'm not sure if it's your story or the booze, but that just seems soooo <deleted explitive>. I mean, it'd probably be funny, but in my current state, it's mostly confusing. That's what I need to do in my online campaign. I'll bring in some of my old characters who will set the five hooligans on the path to righteousness. I'd need two NPCs for Baley. The kid has sex on the brain. Why didn't I think of this NPC as DM's character before?
  10. Forgive me if I'm restating an argument. I came late and I don't want to read everything. If my argument is a rehash of an earlier argument, simply take it as support for the orginal. We have an all-volunteered military. Folks don't try to stay out of the military. They simply don't volunteer. The question is absolutely irrelevant. However, since our local troll asks, the simple answer is: no, I don't look down on people who "try to stay out" of the military.
  11. RP, you can jump in at any time. Dealing with a brand new character while in the midst of combat isn't any worse than dealing Baley's chaotic crazy character at any other time. How do you make a room full of hot, sweaty, and frightened people feel at ease? You scream that you're going to disembowel them, of course.
  12. Oh, ramza, at least people are paying attention to you. ...And if people are laughing at you, at least they're laughing. It's not like folks are trying to get you banned or sending hate your way. You're just the guy who can't stop talking about Jefferson. It looks nuts. You know what, if jefferson hits the shelves, you'll get the last laugh and we'll still like you Even more.
  13. There's a lot to be said about this subject. One problem with a sort of relativist idea is that makes sanity appear to be some sort of straightjacket into which the free spirited insane person is stuffed. That might be true. However, some forms of insanity transcend this "free spirit" notion. Some forms of insan--- look, a butterfly!
  14. It's like a wave of spam has descended on the forum. Why can't we stick the subject on these---- look, a butterfly!
  15. Actually, I promised to get the ball rolling. However, I've always said I'd rather someone else DM. Meta, I don't suppose you're ready to step up to the plate?
  16. We've only got 3 players so far. If we don't get either Tigranes or Blank soon, we might not have a report.
  17. Okay, I've got a room at the 2 the Xtreme. It's the Obsidian Refugee room. The password is "Nick."
  18. hahahaha You people are just plain bad.
  19. Sorry, no. You never get "kill" experience in my games. However, you might be forced to kill something to get full experience. Remember, I warned you guys that killing stuff just for the sake of killing doesn't get you experience. However, let's say that you decide your goal is to hunt and kill cats. Once I ascertain that your mission, at least one of them, involves successfully hunting cats, I'll determine how many experience points you can expect to receive. I know it's imperfect, but I truly hate some basic assumptions about DnD. First of all, even though 3.5ed makes some noises about dealing with creatures in a non-violent manner, it's not true. By dishing out exp without regard to kills, the players have some incentive to explore a variety of options in interacting with creatures. Second of all, I hate exp farming. Having the party decide they want more kills in order to grab a little more experience just torques me. Finally, it allows me some lattitude in working with the plot. For example, you might get more experience for dealing with creatures in a non-violent manner. For example, you need to get into the hidden temple of Apshai. A pack of hungry wolves are chasing you. You see a large ogre guarding the entrance. You kill the ogre without a loss, but you are weakened and the wolves manage to kill one of your party. The rest of you enter the temple and thus you've accomplished a goal. Should you receive more experience for the scenario above than you would for the following: You need to get into the hidden temple of Apshai. A pack of hungry wolves are chasing you. You see a large ogre guarding the entrance. You manage to distract the Ogre and enter the temple. The wolves come to the entrance and the Ogre kills two of the wolves and the rest flee. The party has entered the temple without loss and has their rear protected by the ogre. As always, I'm open to comments.
  20. huzzah! I know how exams can be. Here's your current situation: It's getting dark. The elf can see in low light conditions, much like a cat. The humans and hobbit can only see in lighted conditions. You've been traveling away from the road for a couple of hours. Horace is unconscious, although he's no longer losing blood. Landmarks tend to escape notice until you're almost upon them. Travel, especially in the dark, will be dangerous. The foothills are also apparently dangerous as evidenced by the cat attack. You have a wounded hobbit, a wounded horse, and two dead cats. I plan on granting experience this session, but the manner in which I award experience and how much depends on what you decide to do.
  21. 3 hours and 20 minutes. ...And I'm glad you're going to make it Baley. The party can certainly use a good bard.
  22. I find the premise interesting. I'm game for a good game and even more game for a great one. I don't care if they're ex-modders or ex-spetsnaz. Not having played a BG mod, I'll judge any game they make based on the game and not past efforts. I mean, this isn't going into the pre-order column, but if ramza can keep us abreast here, it's all good. It lets us know about a new game and keeps him from talking about the Black Hound.
  23. noon it is. Here's hoping Nick can make it. I'm betting the camel outlives all of you.
  24. I don't care if we stuff him in a pillow case and haul him around on the end of a stick like a hobo's bundle. I just want everyone to work with in terms of moving characters in and out of the campaign. We still need a definite time to begin play tomorrow.
  25. Interesting. I like dark themes. It's just too bad that most of the time, the developers don't do justice to the theme by the end of the game. I want something subdued. Something dark and grainy where the horror lies somewhat more in my imagination than in the graphics or dialogue. Something where the horror is just on the other side of my conscious thought. Where the fear is some shadowy form on the edge of thought.
