Okay, I just got here and I'll check into it immediately. Let's see how fast I can exercise my Attic Greek muscles.

Time to start planning my new computer
Cantousent replied to Cantousent's topic in Skeeter's Junkyard
I'm going to keep an eye out for it. Gromnir et al have convinced me to go all out on the motherboard. Right now, the motherboard, processor, and video card are my main priorities. -

You know, angshuman, I was looking and the price for the GeForce 7950 GX2 seems set at considerably higher than $600. Where did you get the information about the pricing? If you're right about the pricing, it might be worth it. I'm just wondering where you got the info. -

I never overclock, so I'm probably going to stick with the asus. -

The problem isn't that we disagree. It's that we can't find a way around it. :Eldar's ***-eating grin icon: So, Which motherboard is better? -
Awesome. Does your mom plan on playing NWN2 multiplayer? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yuck it up, funny boy! My mom plays in one of my in-person DnD campaigns. I seriously doubt that she starts playing NWN 2, but I seriously doubted that she'd enjoy my DnD game. Go figure. BTW: She lives in Las Vegas and still plays in one of my DnD campaigns. Granted, we only get to play once a month, but still.

I don't mind meeting you to get the parts. The real problem is exchanging the money for the parts so the parts are there so I can give you the money and you can give me the parts. That's the problem with the internet. I mean, I sent a couple of boxes to Atreides a while back and he sent me a money order after he received them. ...But that was just a little over a hundred dollars, I think. I basically gave him my MtG cards and charged him for the shipping. This is going to be over a thousand dollars. Well, I'd still like some comments on the components I've proposed. Maybe I can word on that. I might wait and get the upgraded GeForce 7950 GX2. It's like working a jigsaw puzzle. I can get x part but only if I substitute a cheaper part for y. That's why it's so important to know which part should be a priority. -
Remember what friend Sawyer said... that's minimum. Sawyer's always played a straight shooter, so I think we should believe him. Still, even the computer I just built for my mom surpasses those requirements in every way, so I'm not worried.

Okay, how do you propose this would work, Child? BTW: I'm good for a coffee at any rate. It's just the specifics of this arrangement that worry me. If I can get wholesale pricing on some of this stuff, of course I'm interested. -
I don't look down on you because you didn't volunteer, astr0creep. First of all, you're not an American, so it's not as if your status as a volunteer would protect my personal rights. However, you misunderstood my argument. The Constitution puts the decision for war or peace in the hands of the civilian government. The civilian government decided to prosecute a war against Iraq. The military, acting in accordance with its Constitutional role, carried out military operations at the behest of the civilian goverment. The war is legal. An international body might disagree. I'm sure several international entities have claimed that the war is illegal. Strictly speaking, however, such speech is pointless. It might serve to voice a political message, but there is no international entity that supercedes our Constitution. I can hear the howls of rage, but it is simply a fact that our military is sworn to protect and defend the Constitution. You say Iraq did not pose a threat to our Constitution? I say that a much larger threat would be the military command refusing to take orders from the civilian government. Just think of that. If we say it's perfectly fine for the military to refuse to prosecute a war at the behest of the civilian government, then is it equally fine for the military to prosecute a war without the permission of the civilian government? With the decision for peace or war laying in the hands of the military, would the civilian government be confined to domestic policy? The decision to wage war in Iraq may or may not be a good policy. I doubt if we'll know the answer to that question within the next decade. However, if the military had refused to act out the wishes of our elected officials, the outcome would have been far worse. ...And a weak US would not be a benefit to our northern neighbors.

Hey, this is great. The thread dies after I decide to leave the DMing to someone else. I might be irritated otherwise. hahahaha Really, though, the party simply cannot hope to reanimate anything at this level. This is particularly true since druids don't dabble with the undead.

I do not equate one with the other. The Iraq war, as a policy, is open for debate. That's the nature of democracy. However, if the civilian leaders decide upon war as a course of action the military is bound by the Constitution to carry out such a war. Conflict, in a more general sense, is a different matter. So you should take my comments regarding conflict only as they regard conflict. We could change the nature of the debate, but I'm far more sympathetic to folks who agitate against our involvement in Iraq than I am with folks who suggest that we should avoid conflict. This is especially true for those folks who suggest we should avoid armed conflict at all costs. In short, I believe there are worse things than conflict but the exact nature of the conflict in Iraq is a different matter.

I'm going to be up in the Napa Valley area on vacation in mid-July. Of course, could we trust each other? :Eldar's raised eyebrow with a hint of a smile icon: -
Can soldiers refuse an order that seems inappropriate to them? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think this question is best answered by a front line soldier from a combat zone. In the absence of such a soldier, I will give the best answer I know. Yes, soldiers should refuse any order that violates the Constitution. It is not only appropriate to do so, it is necessary. The civilian government should never stay quiet while the military command acts of its own accord. In the United States, as well as all other western democracies, the civilian government controls the military. It is right that this is so. Whether our actions in Iraq are lawful in other countries is irrelevant. The military in our country is sworn to protect and defend the Constitutionof the United States of America. It is right that this is so. It is a damnable thing, conflict. I agree with you, Astr0creep. I hate conflict. I always have. It is good that we hate conflict, but even better to face it than hide from it at all costs. It is right that this is so.

Okay, here you go. I'd like comments on all of this, but I'm particularly interested in opinions regarding the motherboards. I've separated them quote the total for each at the end. -

I haven't seen the DDR2 standard with any of the Athlon motherboards. I've never built an AMD system before, so maybe I'm just not understanding it correctly. Oh, I don't have the video card on the list. That's going to increase the price by almost $300. -
Wait, I gave an opinion about ages. My actual age is 36. My emotional age is considerably less.

If I were going to buy right now, this would be a likely list. However, coming in way under budget, I wonder if I should upgrade my CPU and Motherboard as a first priority or the Video card. Comments? -
I never really thought of that. I don't go there, so I wouldn't know. Actaully, I'd still be willing to bet on the average age of early 20s. It's just that a lot of them act immature.

"BUT what Im envious of is your view! green, green grass as far as the eye can see" It's always greener on the other side, Kaftan. Now, When I get my new, mondo computer built, then you will all fear and worship me. Well, maybe not. I'm only willing to shell out 2k for it.
-
I'd take the average age at somewhere in the early twenties. Actually, it might even be a little older.

Maybe we could use my current online PnP game as the basis for a module. I don't know if we can do all the specifics, but I'd be willing to give what I've got done so far over for scrutiny.
