I'd hate to lose the current batch of characters, but I love the Lovecraftian mythos. I can't GM it, but I'm damned happy to play it. Hey, my character from Vampire was really a Lovecraftian scholar. He just happened to feed on pretty women. He didn't want to do it. He didn't have a choice.

I can hardly wait until everything arrives and I can start taking pictures of games. I'm excited about City of Heroes/Villains, Oblivion, and NWN2. What else is there? I haven't really had much time to play games of late, but that will change.

I believe -- Diamond Rio Yep. That's our Michael Damien. My wife loves the guy. We went to see him play Joseph in the Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. He did a good enough job. I still think of him as a soap opera actor.

I know. I considered waiting for DX10, but there's always something around the corner and I don't trust the new standard to hit right away. Getting a motherboard with dual slots I can allegedly use at the same time with different cards does a lot to ease my pain. I hope.

The bio boards are a bit sterile. Anyhow, I voted for the DnD rules. The fact is, I'm used to them and I find them familiar. I'm also loathe to use the "other" option. However, I think each game should use the system that makes the most sense. For example, I thought the way the design team used the concept of death and immortality (not Godhood) as part of the story was inspired in PS:T. However, clearly it's not a model that suits every game. So, if they make the rules fit the game then I'll be fine. I never really minded the way KotOR handled death. I don't imagine it will be a big deal for me.

I was curious after I saw your post, Samarai. The card was 74.99. The speakers, however, were 98.99. So, that's a bit over the $150 you said, but I'm still happy with the setup. After the purchase, there's no point in finding fault with it.

Well, I'm hoping the sound card is the end of the rig purchasing experience for me. The basic rig, sans sound-card, speakers, monitor, and Office, only came to $2,020. Those four items put me way the hell over, so I guess the $95 bucks I spent for the sound card shouldn't irritate me. Hell, it cost the same amount, within a few dollars, for the speakers as it did for the sound card.

Hey, we should play CoC instead. Jim, you up to it?

So what? I'd threaten to kill you, but I'm sure Llyranor can find a way without me. Just don't let anyone throw you across a river with this group.

Yep. I mean, I'm here to be roasted. Hell, Pixies is the only person who's roasted me recently. ...And he called me a jerkface, which really hurt.

Good Lord, Child. The world is your oyster. Go ahead and take the reins of powah, get off your duff, and arrange a session!

Good thing my homies have my back. I took your advice and picked up this little gem: SOUND BLASTER|AUDIGY 2 ZS PCI OEM. It should go well with my speakers: Logitech Z-2300 200 watts RMS 2.1 Speaker. I remember my old ISA audio cards of old. It was weird when the first PCI cards hit the shelves. Then it was a lot of onboard stuff. Now it's back to PCI cards for me. Next, they'll make the audio cards ISA again. Finally, we'll see the day when the internal speaker will give us a series of beeps. After that? Silence.

I can't remember what my Atari 800 had for a video card. hahaha Seriously, though, the card I just bought is probably the most cutting edge I've ever bought.

I am I said -- Neil Diamond Oh, I think Neil Diamond is great. It's just that his voice has been hitting the skids for years. He just can't hang with his own songs. Still, those songs are some of my faves.

Ah, I remember the Riva TNT. Fond memories. It's just so sad that new cards cost so much money. It's a real bank breaker.

No one in this group has died yet. The cleric, rogue, and mage have taken long naps whilst oozing blood from their mouths. However, my sister, wife, and aunt lana have all had characters shot out from under them. In fact, the reason my aunt is playing a paladin is because she wants more hit points and better saves. I don't ever gun for my players, but anyone who has played in one of my campaigns for any length of time has had a character killed. It's just the way it works. What I'm determined to avoid as best I can are complete slaughters. If the entire group dies, then the story bites it. I have killed entire groups before, but only when they did something so patently stupid I could see how I could help them get a few folks out alive.

Congrats, my music loving friend. I've only been to one big concert in my life and it was...... Neil Diamond. Woo Hoo. Too bad he was already getting on in age and couldn't hang with the high notes. It was like attending an AARP convention.

Time to start planning my new computer
Cantousent replied to Cantousent's topic in Skeeter's Junkyard
You know, I was thinking that I'd just go for the single video card option but have SLI available just in case. On the other hand, if I can put the new soundcard in with the old one without being forced to use both at the same time, I'll probably stick with nvidia. It was a big jump for me to switch away from ATi, but I've had good luck with both and I'm not about to wed myself to brand loyalty. Still, it was weird switching. On the other hand, I didn't want to be behind the 8-ball by making assumptions about the future. If I can stick the new DX10 card in with the 7900GTX, then I'm a new nvidia man for the life of this rig. -
Ah, well I don't know what a DTS decoder is and I don't make recordings at all.

Intuitive Rules - 2nd Ed. AD&D vs. D&D 3E/3.5
Cantousent replied to Lancer's topic in Pen-and-Paper Gaming
IP check, please. Anyhow, is that you trolling in my backyard Mike? hahaha Seriously, though, the folks complaining about 3rd edition try to have it both ways. It's a watered down version of 2nd edition, created to cater to dummies. It's also too complicated because of AoOs, opposed checks, concentration checks, etc. The biggest problem with folks who prefer 2nd edition is that they're like Apple fans. It's not enough that they have a preferrence. It's that they must deride you because you don't share it. There are all sorts of 2nd edition DnD books out there. If you prefer it, get a group of likeminded folks together and play 2nd edition. With all the crap Wizards dumped into the 2nd edition market, it's not like you'll run out soon. -
Health regeneration isn't standard in HL2 or FEAR as I recall. Maybe at lower levels it is, though.

Well, one thing you guys managed to convince me to do is disable the onboard sound on my wife's computer. I mean, she has a soundcard and onboard sound. Now I'm starting to worry that the onboard sound is still eating away performance even though the speakers are plugged into the actual card.

It's like that old saying, I went to a fight and a soccer match broke out. I went to a political discussion and a religious discussion broke out. Anyhow, I appreciate Baley's candid approach. It gives an account of his perspective without insulting mine. Oh, he still presumes that my God is man-made, but I don't find that offensive because it's manifestly clear that his concern lies more with how he sees the world than with how I see it.
