  1. Which is why Out of this world/Another world can be considered to be art.
  2. I use 5.1 Surround Sound Headphones... Nothing in my opinion gives a better aural experience.
  3. Sometimes its pure entertainment, but I've certainly seen games that I consider art. One of which would be Out of this World/Another World.
  4. He's a film critic WTF does he know about games! Games can be art, that does not mean every game is art, much as every movie being art, or every book. Harry Potter != Art. Die Hard != Art. Doom 3 != Art. It's very simple concept. I'm shocked at Kaftan, but then again I'm getting used to his bleak attitude.
  5. *Points and laughs* Swedish Taxes TEEHEE!
  6. It's in stasis, and acting a fully playable game to show off our more sophisticated game engine. There has been talk of making basically a bomberman style game but upon a cube.
  7. Vista only? We're hoping not, it's in the initial phase the idea is to hopefully support XP, Vista and XBOX 360, depends what feature are in XNA GS2.0.
  8. Congratulations Is now the right time to whine and complain about not appearing on the PC? It will most likely be on PC, and if all goes well you'll be able to play against your friends on XBOX .
  9. So we came second, and we got a contract, so it looks like Yo Ho will be on XBOX Live if all things go well, there is some work to do yet! Saw a couple of guys in Obsidian shirts, but I didn't actually get to meet any obsidian employee's, I did meet some cool folks from NCSoft and Gas Power Games, heh Microsoft also bought me lunch, HA I had lunch on Bill! LOL All in all, great news, Loved Seattle!
  10. LOL I just wanted to keep everyone that was interested updated. Atleast you have cold taquitoes .
  11. So you're not planning on staying in QA... BUT WHY!
  12. I'm currently in seattle attending microsofts gamefest monday and tuesday...
  13. *shakes head at thread*
  14. No, thats not what Im saying at all. What Im saying is that the influence system inadvertently encourages players to metagame. Just like the example Tale brough up where you're encouraged to metagame in Kotor and JE in order to get enough 'good' or 'evil' points to get a bonus. IMO, a system that encourages metagaming is a faulty system. Especially in a game where you are supposed to be immersed into the story/setting, because metagaming draws you out into reality where it's Kaftan playing a computer game, not Bertil the Barbarian saving a dragon in distress. Think of it like this, I would assume, based upon my personal experience, more gamers metagame CRPG's than RP in CRPG's. You're stuck wanting to Meta-game because you "Don't want to miss something", and being as the average gamer is already meta-gaming anyways the influence system give the games dialogue more depth so to speak. I don't see it as broken.
  15. So your complaint is basically that you can't Metagame very well in OE's RPG's... I'd say that's more your problem than the game being fundementally flawed, perhaps it should be considered options, like a tick box that basically puts party influence on or off, when it's off it's just always considered that the NPC will progress his story, while if on it uses the influence system. Frankly I wouldn't want to loose the influence system to increase the metagamers enjoyment of a game.
  16. Effciancy. I like all the engines(Source, Id Tech, UE3) and would have no problem working with any of them.
  17. Which is ironic considering that the engine out performed the source engine. The better game engine doesn't always become the most popular one. I don't think the Doom 3 engine out-performed source... I was speaking in terms of its performance in regards to rendering. Source is certainly more popular.

  19. Carmack is one of the best programmers in the industry, as for programmers being designers sometimes good sometimes bad, depends upon the angle the coder is coming from, if they want a design to challenge them, or because it makes total sense.
  20. Because some folks enjoy old games, as gameplay hasn't really evolved that much. DUH!
  21. It's extremely fun, it was actually prototyped in space three times until eventually there was a major engine rewrite, and the whole thing redesigned for the sea. The inital prototype was brough to us having been made using "The Games Factory". Then it was alpha prototyped in 2D, in space using XNA. Then in 3D. Then changed to the whole sea, pirate and monkey theme. It wasn't an amazing technical challenge(I got dumped with all that stuff, on another project that's still being developed), but Yo Ho Kablamo, it's development name was Sea Zoggers, is an extremely fun party game. As you can see from one of the screenshot on DBP, I was actually play testing it when they grabbed the screen shot .
  22. But we had a monkey, and pirate ships, and and anyone knows anything knows that monkeys+pirates own skantly clad harlots!
  23. ... Yeah.. That's a little much if you ask me.
  24. Okay so...Canalside Studios and then... Top20 Dream Build Play Finalists I need not say anymore. I wasn't heavily involved with Yo Ho Kablamo, but I did contribute to the game. (I wrote the sprite engine, and worked with the lead coder of Yo Ho Kablamo on some multithreading implementation, not directly but in R&D, and did some R&D stuff that meant they had the process for skinned mesh implmentation). I'm lead programmer on the other project G3, which wasn't entered into the competition. But I thought I'd share with you obsidianites .
  25. Funny, I found it to be a rather humourious black comedy.... Meh.
