Silicon Knights suing Epic over Unreal Engine 3
@\NightandtheShape/@ replied to Zoma's topic in Computer and Console
This seems to be more of a problem with Epic refusing to offer proper technical support, and with holding updates for the engine. That doesn't mean the engine could be considered poor to work with I am unsure and cannot say anything in regards to the engine proper, but the post indicates more of a problem in regards to business relations than the underlaying technology of UE3.0 in its current state. It'll be interesting to see how this all develops. -

Far Cry for the most part had some very good and well thought out levels, I agree there was the occasional strange desicion, but I doubt that really counts for much in a world that seems to think shooters like Halo are good despite the game having possibly the worst level design in a AAA title that I can ever recall. I can't think of any games with perfect level design, frankly I think it's something that people don't pay enough attention to.

Just got round to checking out Full Spectrum Warrior on the PC... I picked it up for 1p...

Have you ever tried a Sportster? I've driven on a lot of British roads, and I've ridden some Sportsters, and I don't think they'd pair up quite as badly as people say. My first bike was a Sportster, the bizzare thing about the sportster I had was the fact that you can lean a few more degrees to the left than you could the right. The sportster was certainly more agile than my bobber, but compared to a sports bike it's always more work... It's not a bad thing, just means you have to judge corners better. -

I cannot comprehend how ANYONE wouldn't enjoy riding a motorcycle, well unless the experience has been too freigtening for them, but in general... It's about the most fun a person can have on wheels :D, have you ever been on the back of a motorbike? -

Not very common at all, infact... I only know one other person who rides a Harley here at the university, and I often don't see other Harley's often when i am out riding. When i picked up the street bob I was only able to get it due to the fact that basically the dealership had already purchased the bike, at that it still took 3 months to come. I've had my eye on the Buell Super lightning for a while as a second bike, I don't know why I just have a thing for American bikes, and even some American Cars, I think it's the sound of power the general roar of a Harley. Harley's ain't the easiest thing to ride on English roads, it's all the corners and my gawd every Harley I've ridden had always hated going round any sort of bend. Certainly built for the American Highways. -

This is very true naturally, but I like the roar of a larger engine. Yes, yes and yes, but so is the 500cc GPZ. -

My first bike was an 883cc, 250cc is so weedy, the 500cc GPZ is probably a better option as a first bike. -

I ride everyday... Well except in winter when it's icey... I was even riding during the terrible weather we've had that's caused loads of floods this past week. Fair weather riding is for the weak. -

I love Triumphs, but there is something about Harley's that does it for me... My ride a 2006 Harley Davidson Street Bob, 1450cc engine \m/. I still have so much I want to do with it... Like new pipes, and the headlight. -
Civ 1, despite the awful GFX is still a good well structured game and well beyond most games of that genre.

The experiences of a lowly playtester

The man is just not a stupid biker... I used to do a 40 mile commute on country lanes in england and that's a good hour journey. Motorbikes are the answer and you know it! All's said tho' Thankfully you don't have a extremely taxing job, testing is hard work, but atleast you ain't gotta fix those problems. I must admiut finding some of them is very difficult, bizzare inputs can create the oddest of problems and with a good description they can be solved quickly. The tester is the unsung hero of games development. -
They will we needed a little time, to deliver the best product we can. Here's hoping an XBOX live product is coming to you all soon that is both fun, cheap, and somewhat revolutionary. May I just add that I am greatful for everyone's input

Lets just say thanks to a guy called Phil Mundy(CEO of a company called Creative North), we've managed to get the project extended by 7 weeks. We had, as a development team stood our ground for a while and maintained that what management had been asking was impossible, we now have some breathing room, it's still a huge ask but the team size has been increased from 2 to 6 in regards of programmers, potentially more, and the design team has always comprised of another 6 members. Large development companies do usually consist of 50+ members, but we're small time, The manager has decided our project is the flag ship product, potential publishers are coming next week, and I've heard talk of Microsoft once or twice, so things are looking alot better.

Thanks for the advice, I will certainly bare that in mind... Heh... As I've said before to folk in the past: When you work for EA you're overworked and underpaid, when you work where I work, you're overworked, treated like crap, used up spat out and maybe you'll get enough to buy yourself a cookie. It's alot worse than EA.

No budget. If I could have done I would have... But *Sigh* such things are out of my hands. Knowing the people I work with I'd just be met with scorn. Don't get me wrong, there is a chance I can pull it off for the 2nd of july, but for some bizzare reason and strange twist of fate I can't work past 9pm because the access cards we have to the building are now void, so unless it's sorted quickly it looks even less unlikely. It's not the problem either, it's the sheer amount of code that's required. I dunno, I fixed all the bugs I knew about and still have to finish most of the mechanics. The bizzare thing is that after the 2nd, we just go back to doing what the lead designer orginally specified. It's a bit of a waste, and a hack session.
