  1. Your support for such a statement being? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> My support being that just about every single piece of Star Wars material that is not a movie suggests otherwise. I suppose you could say that's an EU thing or whatever and that Lucas intended for there to only be 3 colors, besides Mace's. The way I see it, those materials just show us things that are part of the official universe, but we never got to see in movies. So while that's all we see in the movies, there are actually many more. And also, although you never see it in the movies, a member of the Jedi Council in Episode I, also one of the Jedi we see being assassinated in Episode III, wields a red lightsaber. Adi Gallia I believe. Anyway. I really hope KotOR 3 is made. The chances of it being made by BioWare are ridiculously low, so I'm prepared to accept it being an Obsidian-made game. Which I see no problem with, as long as they are given the time they need to develop the game properly this time. We all know that if the devs had more time, KotOR 2 would be much better than it is right now, even though I still like the game a lot. My only real problem with KotOR 2 was the story, and not even that it was given to us incomplete, but that it hardly seemed to relate to the first game at all. As long as KotOR 3 is dealing more heavily with Revan, I'm pretty sure we'll all be happier. And I'd also agree that announcing it as soon as possible would be best. I'll take impatiently waiting for it to come out over wondering if it will ever exist at all.
  2. Wasn't able to read through every page in this thread so I don't know if a conclusion was ever reached, but as far as I know it's still unclear exactly who is developing KotOR 3 (or if it was even being developed in the first place). The fact that an Obsidian developer started this thread seems to at least acknowledge it's current existance, and possibly that it's in Obsidian's hands. I would consider that a shame, not at all because I doubt Obsidian's ability to make a great game, but a shame because I hate to see BioWare neglect one of their own most loved franchises. The original was basically the official Game of the Year in 2003, yet they shun involvement in any sequels in favor of creating new IPs. Anyway, back to the topic. I agree with most of the smaller, superficial suggestions, such as hooded robes and more character customization and whatnot. I also would like the game to be a bit longer, as both of the first two KotORs have been about the same length. A longer length of the game would help a ton in the area of replayability, which both games already have in spades. Longer game means more planets, which leads me to my next suggestion, more freedom. The first two games at first appear to be pretty free, allowing you to mostly come and go from planets at any time, but in the end the individual environments still seem limited to only where the quests are supposed to take you. I'm trying to make suggestions here that are realistic, as opposed to what every fan of every game would ask for it's sequel, "make it bigger, better, longer, more of this, more of that" blah blah blah, basically the most unreasonable requests without the game coming on 4 discs and costing $150. Then again, the likelihood that anyone involved in KotOR 3's development will ever read this thread is already low, so whatever. Lastly I would like to address this suggestion from a previous post. It may seem like an insignificant point to some, but I take issue with it:
  3. I have just now found a very strange glitch which I don't believe has been discovered yet. My apologies if it has already been discussed, but I searched around and didn't find anything. After just finishing my second trip to Onderon and having settled the whole conflict there, I was ready to go to Dantooine to meet with the Council. I was leveling everyone up and re-equipping everyone outside the Hawk on Dxun before departing. When I was modifying my Handmaiden's double-bladed lightsaber outside using T3 as a workbench, I encountered a very strange glitch. Here are the steps to achieving (possibly) unlimited damage with lightsabers: 1. If your Handmaiden is a Jedi, take her and T3 outside with you. I was on Dxun. 2. Ask T3 to upgrade an item for you, sending you into his workbench mode. 3. Select the Handmaiden's lightsaber, and change the color crystal to something other than what it currently is, and assemble. When I did it, her lightsaber was violet, and I changed it to orange. 4. Fully exit the menu and then go back in, select the Handmaiden's lightsaber again. 5. Change the color crystal again, this time back to what it originally was. 6. When you exit the menu this time, for some reason the Handmaiden is no longer holding the lightsaber you just upgraded. Equip her with it, and the maximum damage the weapon is capable of should be much higher than before. Repeating these steps raises the damage higher and higher. I'm very eager to find out if this works for everyone else or if it is somehow just a freak occurance for me. Please note, since I just discovered this glitch I don't yet know how much it can vary from the specific way I made it happen, for example I don't know if you can use any color crystals, any planet, etc. Also, I did this with the Xbox version, so I don't know if it is possible with the PC version either. EDIT: I've now found out it works with any Jedi, not just Handmaiden. Pretty sure you can use any color crystals as well. EDIT 2: A little bit of revision on exactly what the glitch does I guess. When I tried to do it to all of my Jedi companions, at first it seemed to have worked. But I believe that this glitch only works for one character at a time, as when I did it to another Jedi the previous character had the bonus stripped from them and returned to normal. Also when I switched the weapon to another character it did not keep the damage, so I believe the glitch changes the damage a character does with lightsabers, not vice versa. Also could not get this to work with my main character.
  4. I know of the cutscene in which Darth Traya has some kind of interaction with Sion, and possibly Nihilus too, not sure, and her face is slammed against a wall by Sion, etc. However, I have never actually seen this cutscene myself in my games. I have beaten the game twice, and am currently playing as a LS female. What do I need to do in order to see this cutscene? I thought it might be having high influence with Kreia, but it wouldn't make much sense for the whole Traya thing to be revealed through conversation with her...
  5. Well for one, I forgot that Kreia reveals it on Telos. I was thinking of it more as the payoff of his backstory, which would have been a big spoiler. Second, I already knew by the time I saw this thread, but I know that people who haven't played the game yet wouldn't want anything spoiled, so even little things matter.
  6. First of all, despite the fact that this thread was obviously made with the intention of starting a flame war, everyone should really stop bitching. This is why I'm never coming back to these forums unless there's replies in a topic I'm in - theres no discussion of the game, only bitching. For all the PC users out there, don't go by the average whiny Xbox user post. I for one have never experienced any of the "game-stopping" bugs even once in any of my three playthroughs of KOTOR 2. If you are basing your decision of whether or not to buy this game on these people, then you're just being foolish. Try it for yourself and form your own opinions. While some parts may seem unfinished this is still an excellent game. Go read professional reviews - the fair GameSpot review gave this game an 8.5 out of 10, one of the lowest scores I've seen the game get, which should tell you something (funny there's no mention of such disastrous bugs in any reviews?).
  7. Yes, of course. It's so cool to denounce a game that you haven't even played as being terrible just based on what people say. That's SURE to be accurate.
  8. On my most recent playthrough I acquired 3 Bindo's Bands or whatever they are called. Makes it quite a bit less special to find when that happens. I've found Jedi robes very early, at Peragus, on the Harbinger to be exact, but I was glad because I really wanted them as soon as possible, and they were only basic ones. I've also gotten an Onasi Blaster, and the Prima guide claims you can find Bastila's lightsaber in the tomb of visions on Korriban. The guide also has Malak's lightsaber listed as an item that can be received. On these notes of using items belonging to other characters, I really, REALLY wished that you could wear Nihilus' mask, but I guess I understand why it's better to not be able to. Just being able to have it is awesome. As someone else said, I kind of like the random loot system, and kind of don't. It sort of adds replay value, though you're right about it being stupid to play through just to see new items, that would never be a reason for me to play. It is a pain in that you can never be sure to find things in certain places. They should have fit every item they made somewhere into the game, however hidden, instead of doing this random thing.
  9. Way to spoil something major, in a non-spoiler forum, and in the topic title no less. Hopefully a mod will notice this before people who didn't already know see it.
  10. I definitely prefer Hanharr over Mira, even though I like LS better than DS. Hanharr was decent in battle while Mira was a bit useless to me, but then again, As for Disciple, I've never had him yet but on my third playthrough of the game I'm being a female char so I'll get to see what he's like soon enough. Handmaiden is a really awesome char though, I almost always take her into battle, and from the general opinion around here it doesn't seem like I'm gonna like Disciple better. Whatever. And for the record, I think Prima's KOTOR 2 guide is really good.
  11. Yeah, as Qxiili said, if you are DS then I thought that was what happened when I played LS, but I guess not. Perhaps it is if you are LS, but if you're DS the explanation is
  12. First of all I think you should speak for yourself. Not everyone blows the game's shortcomings out of proportion. I as well as a few of my friends have never experienced many of the bugs that have been so widely complained about around here. Also, while the ending may be unsatisfactory, that is no reason at all to create a petition demanding the devs re-work the game, which is completely unreasonable. Despite the fact they may have been on a short timeframe, that is the ending they chose to put in the game. It's totally rediculous to demand they change it because some people don't like it. I have never heard of developers completely changing the ending or some other major part of the game for a re-release, nor should they. I would also like to point out that if an identical KOTOR II was released by BioWare, most of these complaints would likely have never been brought up. I understand that the bugs are expected to be fixed for the PC release. But since there is no Xbox Live support for KOTOR II, we're stuck with what it is. Even if they did make such an "improved" re-release, it would still be screwing people over by making buyers of the original pay money again. Overall I think that people need to let go of their unrealistic and rediculous expectations for what they wanted KOTOR II to be. It's a hard thing to follow 2003's Game of the Year, so of course everyone will whine and complain if the slightest thing is wrong with it. If you stop focusing on the game's flaws, which are honestly not that bad, you'll find a great game. I applaud Obsidian for a job well done.
  13. As much as I'd like it to happen, I highly doubt KOTOR 2 will get any GOTY awards. Maybe it can be a contender in the specific RPG section, but not overall GOTY. This is because it's not as original and groundbreaking as KOTOR 1, since it is a sequel after all. An excellent sequel, but it doesn't have as much potential to be as critically acclaimed as KOTOR 1. My GOTY Pick: Any remotely respectable gaming source has been calling Half-Life 2 the best game EVER MADE. I haven't seen a single respectable review source say any such thing about games like Halo 2 or GTA:SA anywhere. If there is any justice in this world, Half-Life 2 will be this year's GOTY.
  14. I think much of the complaining on these boards stems from the fact that certain people like to seem cool and rebellious by denouncing Obsidian and their game on their own forums. Ooooh. It's SO cool to hate what many people like. Yes, there may be bugs in this game, but there is much exaggeration around here. KOTOR 1 was pretty much the official Game of the Year for 2003, so people expected some pretty unrealistic things from this game. I think KOTOR 2 is an amazing game, better than the original. The story is awesome, but I must warn you to not get your hopes up too high for the ending - it's a bit weak. If you expect too much from it then your overall opinion of the game may suffer. One of the great things about KOTOR is that the difficulty is completely up to you - something not too common in RPGs. You can set it to whatever you want to get just the right amount of challenge for you, so you don't really need to worry in this area. Anyway, KOTOR 2 is a really great game and as long as you don't have insane expectations and just take it for what it is, you'll have an awesome time with it.
  15. Sounds reminiscent of KOTOR 1's Galaxy Droid "glitch" to me. Very interesting find, I'll definitely try to get it on my second playthrough and post if I get any different results.
  16. I would never put any stock into anything that comes out of Spike TV. Their "video game awards" are a mockery, trying to pretend they know anything at all about the medium but in reality just praising the mainstream games that people who know nothing of video games play, like Halo and GTA (not that all people who play those games are ignorant). I think it puts up a red flag right away that GTA got GOTY... of course it did, because that's a widely popular game that got tons and tons of hype, so it was guaranteed at least a nomination regardless of it's actual quality. I also believe they gave a Madden game GOTY a while back. Disgusting.
  17. Yeah, Malak's lightsaber is in the game, and the Prima guide said that by going through the tomb on Korriban where you fight your past "ghosts" or whatever you can get Bastila's lightsaber. I haven't done that yet, will on my second playthrough.
  18. [spoilerS] When discussing inter-Jedi relationships with Handmaiden, and she asks if they are possible, you can say "I believe the term is 'pulling a Bindo'." --------- When you talk to Carth about Revan at the end, seeing what became of him and how he was so sad to have to let Revan go... and then who comes out from the shadows after you leave but Bastila (w00t) my jaw was on the floor. --------- After defeating evil Atris at the end, after the fight when you are in that Sith chamber thing, all the Sith holocrons screaming out angry-sounding gibberish. A very serious moment, and it had me in stitches. --------- On Peragus, when you are talking with the HK droid trapped in the fuel depot, you ask him to replay the dead maintenance officer's last words - hilarious, frantic screaming as the droids break in and he screams about his burning legs. --------- The first time you saw Darth Nihilus in that cutscene - pure awesomeness. And when he "spoke", there is no word for how cool that was. --------- When Kreia and Atton are imprisoned at the Jedi Academy on Telos, her entering Atton's mind, finding out his secret and blackmailing him for it... that first finding out about her evil intentions was great.
  19. I thought this was all very strange too. You describe it to Atton, and then it's only seen in two cutscenes, and then forgotten. I did notice that when you make your lightsaber, it's only equippable to you, so perhaps that's your official lightsaber now. You're trying to move on, forget your pre-exile-ness Also, I found that depending on what color you told Atton your saber was, that's the color crystal that you will start finding first. So perhaps the devs meant for you to recreate it instead of regaining the original.
  20. That's just ignorance. 1.) The voice is the same. If it's actually a different voice actor, then they did a damn good job of replicating it. 2.) "Mandalore" repeatedly says something about how he will get honor for the Ordo clan at one point. 3.) The dead giveaway - at the game's end, when you are asking about Mandalore, he is called Canderous in the reply you get. Anyway. I have finished the game only once so far (light side) so I cannot say whether there are multiple endings for each side, but I can say that I too was disappointed by the ending. That is to say, I was disappointed with the cutscene I got after all the in-game action was over. That in-game stuff was just fine for me, though it may not have made too much of an impact. The actual final cutscene I got (which to me serves as the true ending) was not satisfying in any way.
  21. I agree with this for the most part. Granted, I have finished the game only once, but I have not encountered many of the complaints mentioned all over this forum. I only came across bad framerate issues on two or so occasions. Didn't notice the problems with the influence system, but then again I hardly had any influence with most people and didn't get to explore most character side-stories (hardly ever took members like G0-T0 or Visas with me at all). Overall, I personally think this game bests the original KOTOR, and that's coming from a huge fan of KOTOR 1. Deeper story, more items, animations, powers, feats, classes, everything is just improved. Obsidian took an amazing game and the net exchange of what they did with it was made it better. I also thought the planets were much more fun than the original - after playing KOTOR 1 a few times, places like Kashyyk and even the Star Forge got pretty tedious. I personally think Onderon/Dxun was probably the most fun from either game. Some minor, superficial problems I had: character face selection was disappointing, it had been said that the number was much larger than the first game, but it seems to me that the selection is just as small. Also, the switch when using L+R to navigate the pause menus went a bit slow. I also found it extremely easy to achieve mastery - probably by the end of my first planet after Telos had I achieved light side mastery.
