I don't know about you guys, but I feel less and less excited with this game everytime I see a new video of it. Bioware has been recycling the same story over and over again and this particular one seems extremely cliche. I also dislike the armor design (how big can these things be anyway?)... CRPGs made by Bioware have really been on the decline since the BG2 era. NWN1 was ok and Kotor 1 was a nice change of setting while keeping the d20 ruleset. Apart from that, Jade Empire was way too short (although I did like the setting) and had crappy character development and battle systems. I can't comment about Mass Effect since I haven't played it yet but it doesn't seem to feature anything revolutionary to the RPG genre...

His project, his priorities. *Shrug* In any case, spending more time focussing on something doesn't necessarily produce anything better; sometimes the opposite, particularly in things like writing. But you also proceed from two false assumptions; first, that what you want equates to either what is best or the views of the majority, and second that time is an issue. This project is a personal one and a mod; even assuming there is a time-table in JES' mind, I'm sure it's fairly flexible. You seem to misinterpret what I have written. As I have stated, this was my 2 cents for what it was worth. The project is definitely his and he will surely carry it out as he sees fit. I just stated an opinion on what I would prefer to get in that module: a cool story and characters rather than an overhauled rules system (since I find the existing one to be good enough). Moreover, there is indeed no timetable, but we will get the mod far quicker if he didn't attempt to make all these "cosmetic" changes. A RPG is mostly attractive for its ruleset (there's already one, why change it?), its setting and its story. Sawyer was about to achieve something nice with the original TBH. I would prefer to see him work on the development of the core part of the module rather than doing unnecessary changes.

Domains grant powers at various levels and spells. Turn Undead now = Channel Energy which can be used to either heal living or harm undead. Meh, what's the point of healing spell conversion then?
-
Well, after starting playing NWN2, I find the engine to be quite acceptable. I don't think the Mystary engine would have fared better in terms of isometric gameplay and in terms of graphics. It's finally a good thing Sawyer is developing this as a NWN2 mod. My 2 cents: I think that he should be more focused on writing the story and the dialogs rather that changing the d&d rules with his own house rules. It's ok to add new epithet feats but I don't see the need to make a complete overhaul of the armor/weapon/etc systems. He "wastes" time that could be used on keeping the story as close as to the original (as a reminder, the nwn2 mod will feature less gaming hours and less characters than the original). I am not that interested in the changes he is making. On the other hand, the story was quite intriguing and sounded cool. I would hate to see the whole thing cut by half just because of the lack of time...

UPDATE: So, the two mods that were the source of all my problems were the following: -Impartial gender flirting pack -ECL removed for races Moral of the story: avoid installing unnecessary things...
-
Ok, I take back whatever I said about Obsidian. As an experiment, I emptied my Override folder and everything was working fine including the graphical glitches (except for the "horizon issue" though)! I have to find out what files may be causing this...
-
Mmm, maybe you are right... The good thing is that those mods are just files that I put in my override folder, so it's easy getting rid of them... Now, which ones should I keep? Here are the ones I have installed: ECL removed for races Dangerous resting No more story prerequisites for nw9 and shadow thief prestige classes TonyHawk improvedAI Some Soz script fixes Some Spell and feat fixes
-
Ok, I managed to get rid of the script problem but the other one I had still remains: some enemies simply disappear and the only thing I can find is their loot without even having to fight them! For example, this happened when I was supposed to fight the grey dwarves on the ground floor of my character's house or the dwarves I was supposed to fight in Bevil's house. The same thing happened in the swamps with the lizardfolk that were carrying greatswords: they were nowhere to be seen. All I could see were some loot bags at the place they were supposed to stand with the greatswords within them. Really weird bug...
-
Yes, I have updated my game with the latest patch. The files that were causing problems were those of the Impartial Gender Flirting pack (either gender is treated by NPCs as being both male and female), so better avoid this if you have downloaded it...

Yet another graphical glitch: both the Yuan-Ti and Gray orc races do not display their appearance correctly. Here is what I mean:

I have never had problems when playing Kotor I and II, Jade Empire, The Witcher, and the latest Call of Duty games... I am currently deleting some script files I have put in my override folder just to see if they are the cause of all my problems... UPDATE: Removing some of these files fixed the game for me... ) Some people on the BIO boards told me this concerning the graphical glitches: It should be remembered that Laptops/Notebooks are not supported by NWN 2. The GO 7400 is simply listed as a GPU that should work, but not garanteed to work properly or provide a good video experience. But I suspect that you are having issues with artifacting (black or odd colored skyboxes) that may show up as lines across the sky, sometimes with portions of Windows Desktop icons, and such. The graphic anomolies you are seeing are due to the GPU rather than the game. The minimum requirement for NVIDIA is actually the n600 series of cards for the OC, where n = 6, 7, 8, or 9. The truth is that I currently have 13 firefox windows open at the same time, with at least 4 tabs each. That may be the cause of my problems...

Sony VAIO VGN FE41E series Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5500, 1,66 Ghz 2 Gb RAM Windows XP, Service Pack 2 Graphics card: NVIDIA Geforce Go 7400 GPU I am beginning to grow tired with all these bugs... Do you have any clue about my "horizon issue" (see the picture I attached in my previous post)?
-
Two other bugs I have noticed: 1) Whenever I entered a new area (a house for example) where I was supposed to fight new enemies, they were already dead depriving me from xps! 2) After I dealt with all the raids, I didn't get any cutscene and the elf-guy (when I clicked on him) just told me to go the ruins. When I reached the world map, there weren't any ruins anywhere! It's a really buggy game... what else awaits me...
-
Ok, with some tweaking, I managed to fix the camera and have gotten used to it. The game is more enjoyable now. I have another problem however with the graphics when I am in character mode... The horizon looks very weird. Is there a way to fix this?
-
Meh. Another example of mediocre milking of a good series...
-
Ok, I confirm that the camera and interface are simply awful. What was Obsidian thinking? NWN1, despite its wheel thingy, was 1000 times less clunky than NWN2... Anyway, is there anyway to make the camera scroll less quickly/swiftly? I have set the mouse responsiveness to minimum and the camera still scrolls too quickly (I didn't see any change actually). I always need to adjust it all over again... It's really a pain... Seriously, Obz made 2 games and both are failures... The first one bugged and unfinished, the second one unplayable because of the camera and interface... geez...
-
I just love how the graphics have improved since the first trailer a couple years back...
-
The Fall of Max Payne indeed. Looks like a rapist that just busted out of prison.
-
Does anyone know how I can make the camera rotate around my selected character (in strategy mode) just like we could do in NWN1? I have tried everything but in vain... There are some things that cannot be seen (behind walls, trees, etc) without being able to rotate the camera. Concerning the hair/head mods, I have given up using dome of those as they are messing up my game somehow. I have also installed the BG2 UI and it looks neat!
-
But what about the files overwriting each other? Do you think this will cause problems?
-
I have found this Head/Hair pack on Nwvault but I do not understand how to install it (and there isn't any instructions anywhere): http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=NWN2H...;comment_page=2 Do you think I should drop everything in my Override folder? I have noticed that some files within a same package overwrite each other... Is this how it is supposed to be? Any help will be greatly appreciated! Cheers!

For someone who touts humanity you sure lack any concept of it. Dying is a natural and humane process and I'm going to go so far as to say killing is as well. We do it to animals and have done so for millennia, mainly for protection and out of necessity to eat. We execute criminals to protect society and it's a necessary as well as just sentence in many cases. Explain to me exactly how letting a man rot in a concrete box for the rest of his days is humane? Or for that matter your beating the hell out of prisoners or stranding them on an island. You're the hypocrite. I like how you talk about the value of human life and that we're all equal. You're completely blind to reality. There are people in this world who are worth more than others, whether it's physically or mentally or w/e. And what exactly would you know about the value of human life anyways? Unless you've experienced birth as well as killed men I'd say you have no idea. And yes, I've done both so my previous statement stands. People aren't equal. Only an idealist, blockhead, or someone trying to be pc would say that. Take your pick. 1) Yes, dying is a natural and humane process, but it isn't when death is caused by someone else, it is just plain wrong no matter if it happens everyday in this sick world. Violence is only justified in case of self-defence. Killing someone who is no longer posing a threat (because he has been arrested) is no longer self-defence. As I have already said, there are plenty of ways (different from what I have suggested) to neutralize a dangerous individual. I dislike the killing of animals when it is only seen as a sport and not as a mean of survival. I disagree with your vision of prisons. Do you know that some criminals commit a small crime on purpose just to get in prison? They have shelter and food and don't have to live a miserable life. You should take into account the psychological aspect of crimes: some are made by idiots, some are made because the criminal has been treated poorly all his life and maybe didn't have any other choice than steal to get some food for example. Moreover, some criminals are purely insane and need medical treatment. You can't decide to kill them just because it suits you to do so. Who are you to decide anyway? 2) I agree that people are not equal on many things (cleverness, social status, etc) but we all have one thing in common: we all have the right to live. If someone gets murdered, we have to punish the criminal for taking a life. But, it IS hypocritical to kill that same criminal out of respect for the human life he has taken, because if we did respect human life, we would never resort to killing him, no matter the cause. Besides, who are you (or anyone in the same manner) to judge whether someone is worthy or not to be living? Having experienced the birth and the death of men doesn't confirm your statement as I do not see any connection with your claim that people are not equal... Again, you are being very subjective in your assessment and this alone proves the irrationality of the capital punishment. It's a bunch of people that apply their own moral compass (and what is considered to be just for them, is considered to be wrong somewhere else) and their subjective reasonning to judge whether some guy should be allowed to live or not. By the way, introducing the death penalty in the US has failed to decrease the criminality rate. So, it is just a useless measure... I am just glad I live in Europe where human rights do get a real protection and where human life is truly valued. I guess we will never agree on this issue, so this will be my last post... PS: I am not sure I have understood correctly your last post. Have you killed men? How so? Iraq?
-
One more thing, some of you claim that killing criminals will save us from some tax money. So, is that it? Is that all the respect you have for human life? Yes, they killed and this is a despicable act. Killing them is another despicable act as well. There is no difference in the value of human life, no matter who is the bearer of that life (criminal or not). If you value human life as a whole, you should stop the hypocrisy and admit that it is wrong to take a life no matter the circumstance. Moreover, are you saying that some tax money you pay (which is surely a negligible amount, given the population of the US) has more value over a single life? You should consider more carefully how your taxes are being spent (billions given to greedy banks and corporations and billions spend on two senseless wars)... Would you rather get someone killed and keep the money for yourself (even though it would probably have ended in the pockets of those banks and corporations I have been talking about)? Wow, just wow... That is respect for human life... And they use the victim's death as an excuse for that...
