  1. But weren't the maps already done? From what I remember, all that remained to do was to populate the areas and put the appropriate scripts...
  2. The equivalent of Super Mario Kart on PS2 is Crash Nitro Kart or Crash Tag Team Racing. Super Smash Bros is unique to Nintendo consoles but there are other great multiplayer games on PS2 as well. I would think more about it if I was about to buy a new console for only 5 games or so (because, to be frank, there aren't many interesting games for the Wii, 10 at best). PS2 sounds like a safe bet even though the console will stop getting official support in a couple of years.
  3. I'm not at all interested in an Xbox, sorry. End of story. Well, I guess you made the right choice since you want to play in a group. Wii is the best bet for non-online multiplayer gaming. You could always buy a PS2 though since it is a cheaper option and there are some good multiplayer games for it too. The only advantage I see for the Wii is that it offers a more revolutionary form of gameplay with the Wiimote and stuff. What I said earlier was just my personal point of view that took in consideration my own gaming needs. I am mostly a solo player, so I don't think the Wii is for me. Moreover, if I can't safely mod a PS2, then there is no point for me to buy one.
  4. I think that only the PS3 is region-free. The PS2 still has the PAL-NTSC-JP distinction and that is really bothersome for european users since some of the very good RPGs have only been released in Japan and in America. Thus, the need to mod your playstation, but from the information I have gathered, there are more risks when modding a PS2 than there where when you were modding a PS1.
  5. I was really thinking of buying one of those consoles myself but I finally gave up this idea. PS2 is near the end of its cycle. If it breaks down, it will get harder and harder to get it repaired. If you want to get it modded (because most of the good games got only released in America), there is a risk of laser burnout. There are some good games for it but I prefer using an emulator on my pc. I got my first PSX modded and had a lot of fun with it for years and years, but it was using a different and more stable technology. I don't want to spend loads of bucks for a brand new PS2 and then get it fried after a month of playing. Wii is a family-friendly console but there's no point if you plan on playing it on your own. Besides, I dislike the wii remote as I prefer using a classing controller (which is not possible with all the new Wii games). PS3 is expensive and there aren't still enough games for it yet. CONCLUSION: Stick to the pc. Most games get ported to the pc anyway and games of the previous generation of consoles will soon be playable on pc through emulators. If you want to get the feel of playing on a console, just connect your pc to a TV and use a USB-controller.
  6. Roflmao, that's why I am asking for the original codes. At this rate, we are not getting the game anytime soon. I respect Sawyer's work but I think it will be quite hard for him to complete the module on his own.
  7. It's not about me. I am sure that more than one modding team would be interested to see what that engine can do. This whole discussion is pointless however of Obsidian doesn't have the rights to the engine. If Herve and Ineptlay still have, it is likely that we will never hear of it ever again. On the other hand, it would be cool if Obz could share it with us...
  8. Well, if we don't get the chance to see what has been done, we will never be sure whether or not it is impossible to use the engine. Is it so hard to make a public release of the codes or something? No one wants to make a commercial use of the engine anyway.
  9. That's not what I asked. Modders still use the IE engine nowadays, so why not try out the Mystary engine to see if we can create mods with it?
  10. Isn't there any way to get our hands on the old engine? I am really curious to see how TBH would have played with it... The Mystary engine looked very similar to the Infinity engine, and I do think that IE looked prettier than the NWN 1 and 2 engines...
  11. Lol, I might just do that as well...
  12. I just want the old game... The nwn2 module just looks like a shadow of what the game should have been... less story, less NPCs, etc...
  13. I am really considering buying a ps2 as well. They are pretty cheap and there has been a newer model released in 2008 with some hardware improvements. I don't really know if I should buy it though. I don't have that much free time to play video games anymore and I wouldn't know where to begin with. There's so many games out there! The other thing that troubles me are the exclusives. I have been thinking about buying a gamecube instead of a ps2 because there are some cool games that are only available for the gamecube like the zelda games, resident evil zero and metal gear solid twin snakes, just to name a few... Oh my, what to do, what to do...
  14. From what I remember, all the areas were done. So, all that remained was to populate them, include the dialogs and scripts, and voila! I know, it sounds easy but it isn't in reality. Still, Josh said that it was the area-making that was difficult. With that part being done, isn't it feasible to complete the game from what's left of the project? Btw, who owns the software? Instead of letting it rot on some shelves, wouldn't be more interesting to put it on the internet. Someone might as well try to salvage what remains of it...
  15. Meh, no new expansion then...
  16. It may be a third expansion pack for NWN2, who knows?
  17. Well, it's better than having a goat-beard...
  18. http://www.wizards.com/dnd/class/index.asp The sorcerer is the arcane antithesis of the wizard. Wielding raw, barely contained magical power, sorcerers channel bursts and blasts of arcane energy through their bodies. They gain their power not through rigorous study of esoteric tomes, but by harnessing magic in their blood, waiting to be tapped and shaped. If wizards wield magic as fighters wield swords, a sorcerer's magic is the arcing greataxe of a raging barbarian. You might be a proud dragonborn scion of ancient Arkhosia, calling on the draconic power of your heritage, or perhaps you were bathed in dragon blood as an infant to fill you with that power. You might have been born in a place where planar forces converged in strange eddies, infusing you with chaos, or perhaps you survived implantation of a slaad embryo, which left the taint of chaos upon you. Magic pulses through your veins, calling on you to give it expression. As it grows ever stronger, will it consume you or transform you into magic incarnate?
  19. Do we have a clue about what kind of changes they are planning to make? Are they major or just minor changes?
  20. You can use two gamepads to have multiplayer. PSX doesn't have online multiplayer, right? Yes, I just need 2 gamepads, but I also wanted to unlock some of my games' secret contents. That is why it would be nice if I could fix my memory card issue. However, it is not something that would prevent me from playing with my friends. I would just have some less fun.
  21. I intend to use an emulator for solo games, indeed. But my main concern was about multiplayer gaming. Oh well, the playstation is still functional, so I guess we will be playing games with less extras...

  23. I am talking about the very first playstation (not the PSone, but the first version of it: the big grey rectangular box). I bought it in 1999 and it was the very last console I ever bought. I had a great time with it and I still have some cool multiplayer games that I would like to occasionally play with some friends (like crash team racing). It is working fine but I am having some technical difficulties with the memory cards. Whenever I insert one, it automatically gets formatted within a couple of days, resulting in a loss of all my savegames. I have a total of 6 memory cards and 4 of them have already been damaged this way. In addition of losing some important saves (like for FFT, where I had spent 100+ hours), I cannot start any new game because I end up losing my saves at some point or another. This is a real problem to me as, even multiplayer games, need saves to unlock new modes, characters, etc. My console is either too old or broken up, I don't know... Is there a way to fix this or should I give it up? Any piece of advice is welcome. Thanks in advance!
  24. Really, wouldn't it be faster if we used the old engine? The question has already been asked but I see more advantages than disadvantages to it. The game was like 60% completed with the old engine, and the nwn2 module is something like a cut/short version of what the original game would have been. What happened to the assets and the engine? Are they owned by Obsidian right now? Can't we continue working on these from where BIS had stopped developing the game?
