What you did today
I call your stomach bug and raise with my 2 week holiday (all i got this year) and sinusitis. When I had sinusitis it was just after a filling which became infected leading to a root canal, but not before the weekend when the dental surgery isn't open, all while I was on my first playthrough of Dragon Age 2. for there was never yet philosopher that could endure the toothache patiently, however they have writ the style of gods, and made a push at chance and sufferance-- much ado about nothing, shakespeare always pops to mind when we hear of dental issues. HA! Good Fun! Oddly enough, my first thought when I hear the word "toothache" is often of that bit from early in Notes from Underground wherein the protagonist posits that there is pleasure in such suffering, because it gives one license to pass suffering on to others by wailing and keeping them up all night. I need to read some more cheerful literature, I think... well, it ain't literature, but this tooth related bit is more likely to make you chuckle... and not in a dark and humorless manner. HA! Good Fun!

Some questions about undeath in PoE
... this real world stuff people is trying to make analogous, ain't. bath salts is actual useful, 'cause the graphic bath salt stories is all bs. the difference here is that you get REAL freaking undead... undead who eat people. is not people with a caffeine-headache, dehydration or even a slightly weird trip. seriously, you gotta see a difference, no? the bath salt stories tend to be far more graphic and scary than the reality. so, what kinda scary stories is gonna attach to animancy if bath salts spawn ridiculous cannibalism nonsense? driving car is statistic very dangerous. drink coffee, smoke cigarettes, play hockey without a helmet... whatever. if ace bailey and other hockey players who didn't wear helmets sudden turned into flesh eating undead, how long would it have taken before helmets became mandatory? two weeks? a few days? ten minutes? ace doesn't just get knocked out, but he gets up off the ice as an unstoppable ghoul and charges into the stands, where he starts feasting on some idiot with the temerity to wear a canadians jersey to a leafs game. as we noted above, the snake oil stuff ain't analogous 'cause end result is death, and you were sadly expecting death anyways. it is admitted difficult to distinguish bad medicine from disease when eventuality o' both is death. but again, we is talking UNdeath and the more common you make undead, the more obvious you is gonna make a causal link 'tween undead and animancy. you not need ace bailey to jump into the stands if this kinda thing happens with frequency slight better than being struck by lightning. say nobles is hoodwinked is plausible only if they is extreme rare. extreme desperate don't help. even extreme stupid don't cut it. HA! Good Fun!

What you did today
am recalling our boss from the short period o' time we were at us attorney office. guy comes into work with his right hand middle-finger heavily wrapped in gauze-- had a little tube sticking out o' the end o' the bandages. apparently the tube were to allow puss and other nastiness drain from his terrible infected digit. ick. turns out that he got finger lacerated when trying to clear grass from lawnmower. and o'course the mower were running when he tried to clear the grass. this is from almost twenty years ago, so please recognize that average lawnmower were a bit more primitive and dangerous at the time. our boss didn't seem like an idiot, but am guessing we all do extreme stupid stuff from time-to-time. HA! Good Fun!

Varied loot and balanced random loot tables = even more replayability?
I dunno... it doesn't have to require combat. Maybe if you go at night, instead of during the day, to the jabberwocky nest, you can simply collect some scales that it's shed in the area. Maybe you have to mask your scent to do so, because your scent will wake it up? Maybe you have to figure out how to even get TO the nest, etc. Just because games make such things a loot drop doesn't mean there can't be more to it. I think that'd be an improvement, from both allowing the player an actual non-combat means of achieving a goal that doesn't directly involve the death of something (jabberwocky SPLEEN would be another story, ), AND making the process more interesting than just "you kill things, and they drop stuff." Same with plants. Maybe they only grow in some precarious place. Maybe you have to get through some spiffy scripted interactions to actually get the plant you want, instead of simply running around enough, manually, in a game environment, then left-clicking on the plant when you finally get near it. Possibility often trumps precedent. I definitely agree that collection stuff should be more than just collection. you really aren't helping make plants sound better. steal scales from nest via stealth or whatever is additional gameplay options beyond combat that would be seen by Gromnir and many as a positive. on the other hand, making plant location More obscure is not helping diminish the scavenger hunt nonsense. if you already got the critter parts that one may use combat and/or steatlh and/or diplomacy and/or whatever, then why bother with plant scavenger hunts? HA! Good Fun!

Varied loot and balanced random loot tables = even more replayability?
the nwn2 system is sounding familiar to josh's teases 'bout enchanting weapons/armour. recipes called for a combination of essences and a gem. essences were, for all intents and purposes, critter parts. sadly for indira, the gems required for nwn2 crafting were not the kinda l007 that filled up gem bags. anything you would bother to craft were requiring the most valuable gems. the plant/herb stuff is new, and am not sure we see it as a good idea either. any kinda scavenger-hunt gameplay always feels like bloat to Gromnir. kill a dragon or jabberwocky to get scales is going to be involving combat. whether you like it or not, combat is gameplay. mindless uncover far corners of maps in search of special babba yagga witch hazel? *groan* am hoping there is more to the plant/herbs collection than... collection. HA! Good Fun!

The 8 Companions
What makes you think we will only have three or four companions at any given time? ... not know what you will do, but Gromnir will only have three or four. HA! Good Fun!

Is there value in adding the ability to give yourself handicaps?
is this the same thing as giving self a handicap? for example, many fallout traits had a bonus and a handicap. the thing is, the handicaps could frequent be nullified or ignored. sure, gifted gave you a penalty to skill points, which were easily overcome by putting some o' those extra ability points into intelligence. small frame would result in a decreased carrying capacity, but would boost agility by 1... and that additional agility point could actually be spent on any ability. giving self handicaps so as to be getting a "better" character is typical in pnp rpgs, but it always stuck us as a bit silly. HA! Good Fun!

Torment: Tides of Numenera
TToN's developers also disagree: tb purists will frequent note that rtwp can potential be slower than tb, and that is true. bob is playing a rtwp crpg with a bazillion combat choices and he gots near crippling ocd. with his party o' six or eight, he can spend hours agonizing over minor combats. converse, freddie is playing a tb game where enemies takes their "turn" simultaneous (or near simultaneous) and at increased speed. freddie either is playing so that he gots a party or 1, or his companions is controlled via ai scripts and their actions is sped up much as is enemies. with enough qualifiers, you can make almost any statement true... but what is the point o' doing so? HA! Good Fun!

Music... must go on...
for years we would hear a studio release from the dead and wonder what all those drugged-out hippies were smoking to make'em believe the dead were good, much less great. nevertheless, we happened to see 'em during the period bruce hornsby were touring with the dead, and we were kinda shocked by how much better they were in concert than on the radio. is still not a favorite band for Gromnir, but after we saw 'em, we kinda get it. HA! Good Fun!

The 8 Companions
iwd games had no joinables. am not gonna bother counting storm o' zehir "companions." ps:t had seven companions, yes? nwn2 had fourteen or fifteen companions... our memory seems to be missing one. mask of the betrayer, whose companions Gromnir found disappointing save for ammon jerro, had six. maybe add kotor2... 11 or 12? regardless, nwn 2 appears to a bit o' an aberration for obsidian black isle. having fewer companions won't make the companions better, but am thinking it is safe to say that the more companions a developer adds, the less they can be developed. am thinking that obsidian has received most of their positive feedback from companions of ps:t and motb, so perhaps they is skewing more towards increased development. is unlikely that we will have a party of more than three or four companions at any given time, so eight companions is likely to take us a couple playthroughs-- that or some frequent party juggling. one quibble: "Dwarf Rangers were not possible in 2E AD&D and almost never seen in 3E/3.5E, so it's a breath of fresh air." in our experience, dwarf rangers in 3.0 and 3.5 were increasingly common. the pathfinder iconic ranger is a dwarf, for example, and pathfinder were officially ogl 3.5 at its start. with the seemingly endless race variations, you can play a 3.0/3.5 dwarf with no dex penalty. also, perhaps sadly, 3.0 ranger were initially only worth taking a handful o' levels, and dwarf had fighter as favored class-- made for ideal min/max. as such, in our experience, dwarf rangers were hardly rare in 3.0 and 3.5. HA! Good Fun!

European Parliamentary Elections results, major concern?
Meh, not playing white saviour to all those poor oppressed women in third world countries while the first world is also far from being problem-free is pretty much the best thing one can do in his situation, methinks. we think white savior is kinda amusing, but bruce has championed as white knight for women on message boards and seems very concerned with race issues in parts of world other than south africa. bjp taking over in india is gonna affect far more lives than possible eu changes. given bruce's other posts he obviously can't deride the white savior with any genuine vigor. so, as bruce aint eu himself, why the concern for eu when india changes is potential more significant? am also gonna suggest that the first/second/third world distinctions is inherent flawed. is a cold war holdover that has increasingly suspect value, particular as we move towards increasing globalization. heck, utilizing some o' the bizarre new methodologies for dividing nations into 1st, second and third world, we has seen south africa gets 3rd world label more than once. HA! Good Fun!

What you did today
"Its pretty basic, everyone with a working brain knows what destroys you ''down the road''. " well, actually, no, they don't. even orthopedic surgeons disagree with each other, but most do agree that regardless o' your form, intense weight training is one o' the potentially more dangerous forms o' exercise. oh, and guess what, nobody has perfect form all the time. serious. is why they call things "accidents." have an accident while suspending hundreds o' kilos/pounds o' weight? is different than a mistake while swimming. hell, janet evans had f'd up form and won loads o' medals at the olympics and world championships. most of rest is rather myopic nonsense. "unfortunately self discipline is what most people sorely lack nowadays," is the nonsense you started with and it got funnier with each post. you like working out? great. Gromnir also enjoys working out. but if you cannot see the funny of an unmarried 20-something telling folks 'bout their lack o' discipline, then you is kinda hopeless. in our 20s we were in law school and working at a juvenile detention facility as a "counselor." we had all kinda arrogance issues at the time, just not the kinda issues you gots. HA! Good Fun!

European Parliamentary Elections results, major concern?
how odd. bruce is all concerned 'bout treatment 'o women on message boards, but potential treatment o' 1 billion women doesn't seem to concern him? curious. Hindutva has some serious implications for women, gays and various minority groups (ethnic and or religious) w/i india. HA! Good Fun!
-
European Parliamentary Elections results, major concern?
personally, am more interested in indian parliamentary elections. bjp takes the reigns o' what may be the most populous nation on earth by 2025. am genuine fascinated by the forthcoming social and economic changes, and how the western world will react to changes in india. HA! Good Fun!

The morality of Animancy
am not doubting that you are correct, which is why we thinks obsidian needs be careful how they deal with animancy. there isn't any genuine real world parallels to animancy. is also not a well-trodden fantasy trope. being uncharted territory allows great freedom, but one need also be remembering the cartographers warning that past the edge of the map, "here be dragons." is all on obsidian to be fitting animancy into their world so it is plausible and reasonable. as long as animancy is having a good degree of internal rationality, people will accept minor inconsistencies and quibbles. 'course, if animancy stretches credulity o' the typical gamer past the point most can bear... *shrug* HA! Good Fun!

Character Rollaholic - Mea Culpa
rare does we utilize fictional character names from literature or movies. instead we go with moderate obscure historical and/or religious names. Agnodike might be name of a female cleric if the cleric is the primary healer. male healers might get named after famous saints linked to healing/hospitals: Cosmas, Damian, Basil. conversely, Roland would probable be too obvious for a paladin. *shrug* alternatively, we rely heavily on our old pnp characters. Vindrogan Frostbeard were one o' our first dwarf characters... back when dwarf was a class in D&D... and yeah, we know it is a silly name, but we were a kid when we came up with it, so sue us. am suspecting that naming habits is somehow significant, but am not certain how. had a friend that Always named his main Chesty McVargas. HA! Good Fun!

What you did today
Fair enough I don't know anyone who is in the exact situation as you mentioned and truly doesn't have time to exercise. All I would argue is that a cardio workout is going to relax you more than alcohol or drugs. But the alcohol and drugs is a perceived method to relax a person, I don't think its a long term solution. of course it ain't a long-term solution, or even a good solution. that being said, am just letting you know that our scenario is common-- too common. HA! Good Fun!

What you did today
and that is where we disagree. some of us simply won't be able to exercise. if you got the kinda job that burns you out mental, physical and/or emotional, and then you get home and you is perhaps a single-parent (or whatever,) then guess what, chances are you genuine don't have time to exercise. you just don't. finally, at 10 or 11 at night you sit down and unwind for an hour in front o' the tv. maybe you is having the genuine self discipline to not use alcohol or drugs to relax a bit and fall asleep. the world is a hard place for many folks. HA! Good Fun!

What you did today
*sigh* gorgon said: "I compensate for the temple of debauchery that is my body by not going 60 kmh an hour on my bycicle. I mean, I would rather have yours, just not all the work that goes with it." woldan responds with some nonsense about self-discipline. is woldan doing 1 hour 4 times a week? no? so, am not thinking you is actual on woldan's side. Gromnir is in favor of moderate exercise. everybody benefits from exercise, but a little goes a long way, and to get more serious 'bout exercise is a vanity pursuit... or a career. most o' us got far better things to do-- far more important things to do. if you don't have better things to do and it ain't a career, then we does see a problem... or youth. the older you get, and the more responsibilities you acquire, the less time you gots for vanity pursuits. even basic bare minimum exercise plays a distant second or third to familial and work responsibilities. you is gonna get more of those. also, as we noted already, woldan sure as hell ain't actual talking 'bout self-discipline as he seems to believe. up til 2010 we were doing workouts 5-6 days a week, sometimes 2x a day, and workouts were each more than 1 hour. those workouts weren't the thing that required the self discipline. they were a release. and they were vanity fueled. we has no difficulty admitting that we weren't benching near 500lbs and doing ridiculous cardio just for health benefits. we liked it. we liked how we looked and felt. we liked being able to lift the gym. if you like working out, as some of us do, it ain't requiring genuine self discipline. it may seem like self discipline to some folks (particularly young folks) but it ain't. yeah, there is always those days where you don't wanna go to the gym or don't wanna do cardio, but the self-discipline spiel from a workout junkie is complete poppy****. the thing is, even when we were younger we didn't have no illusions 'bout what we were doing. get some cardio a handful o' times each week. do something that strains some major muscle groups. anything more is... well, you will eventual figure it out. HA! Good Fun!

What you did today
on a complete unrelated note, we saw three snakes today while walking the dogs. surprisingly, no rattlers. a couple years ago we had a minor explosion o' the rattlesnake population in norcal. with the extreme dry weather we had here during the winter, Gromnir expected that by may we would be needing to show extreme caution with our dogs to prevent rattlesnake bites. so far this year we have only seen one rattlesnake while walking dogs. anywho, the snakes we saw today were two good-sized gopher snakes and a very handsome kingsnake with black and cream bands. the kingsnake were 'bout 100 cm and darn near the most attractive snake we has ever seen. dogs didn't seem particularly impressed-- ran right past it. HA! Good Fun!

"I can't tell you how many times I heard ''Oh I can't exercise, I've got responsibilities'' only to see them waste an hour in front of the TV or computer doing mindless stuff each day. you is making broken and subjective value judgments. use your free time to workout beyond bare minimum rather than...l" and Gromnir is saying you lack perspective. am not knowing how many kids we knew who spoke as you. we weren't so arrogant 'bout it, but we had similar (not same) notions when we were younger. am able to look back and see just see how self-righteous and smug it sounds with benefit of experience. *shrug* if you got free time, how you gonna spend? working out or: volunteer building houses for homeless increase your personal level of education mentor foster kids ... hell, pick-up litter on side of the road is vanity and you got a choice. and sitting in front o' tv... well, is kinda hard to criticize given how much time "we" (that includes you) spend at the computer each day. folks in front o' the tv or computer still has all those important responsibilities we mentioned in other posts. aside: you is gonna have difficulty showing that working out more necessarily=better health. in point o' fact, various kinds o' exercise tends to create health issues, especially down the road. *chuckle* for chrissakes, you just told us you fell off your bike going 100 mph. having a "duh," moment yet? oh, and our mistake... were gorgon not gd. our bad? HA! Good Fun!

What you did today
Depends, if you are that kind of person who is happy with the bare minimum, well, thats fine. I've never been a fan of half measures and doing the bare minimum, when having an accident there is no such thing as ''too muscular back'' , muscles that prevents it from snapping. And that example is just one of many. is not a matter of being happy with bare minimums. as we said above, folks got responsibilities. take daughter to her ballet class or get in a good back & chest day? ride bike downhill at 100 mph or cuts grass with a scythe (HA!) or takes that final class to complete your MBA? am agreeing that exercise is good. never did we say otherwise. gd said he weren't gonna workout like you and you came back with self-discipline... which is nonsense. *shrug* Gromnir was/is one o' the better athletes you is likely to meet. our strength-to-speed ratios were ridiculous and is still better than most. we were a football player who could run track, rather than other way around... and we had competed at state level for fencing and swimming. wrestled but didn't make state. working out were a way-of-life for us. but again, we grew up. we got responsibilities. we got distractions. and we got older too. working out beyond the "bare minimum," is a vanity pursuit. if we had familial responsibilities, we doubt we could manage much more than the "bare minimum." *chuckle* we prefer working-out to work, so the self-discipline bit is reversed. takes far more discipline to do those things you don't like than those you do. HA! Good Fun! ps am recalling when we were in our 20s. we would see some slight overweight guy playing tennis poorly 3 times a week to "stay in shape" and would kinda roll our eyes. we saw as funny. am older now. we see same guy nowadays and we says, "good for him."
