  1. is a decades/centuries old debate, so hardly requiring ad hoc. is not a novel problem requiring an immediate response sans possibility o' reflection or study. just 'cause you cannot find a solution at zerohedge does not mean the issues is new. nevertheless, is noteworthy you mock what you see as a self perpetuating cycle o' welfare, but then concede you got no idea how to fix the gratuitous handouts "problem." and you cannot be serious with the chicken and egg bit. which came first, poverty or the welfare state? serious? is nothing chicken or egg about the problem. 'cause poverty is too big an issue to fix, governments focus on addressing individual symptoms. is no chicken or egg. however, am gonna refuse to allow the misdirection and deflection. am thinking is obvious why you don't wanna address the "problem" you identified. let's circle back to your observation 'bout irresponsible people having children. tell us more... please. HA! Good Fun!
  2. again, the vast majority o' snap recipients is 6 months or less. also, if the problem as you identified were irresponsible people having children, then curbing the so-called handouts solves nothing and results in the immediate new problem o' many hungry children, old people and disabled persons. mistaking symptoms for causes and when asked to address causes you deflect. how droll. HA! Good fun!
  3. not really. is perpetuating a common misunderstanding while attempting to be funny to camouflage. see how darkpriest defends? is like a gd meme, no? if you defend serious, then is not just meant as a joke. this kinda ****e is why saturday morning cartoons well into the 70s were including patent offensive humor wherein minorities were expected to see the humor. "LOL" how very vol. 2/3 o' all snap recipients is short-term-- 6 months or less. that 2/3 includes children. is individuals and families needing short-term help. the remaining long term recipients includes a significant % o' very young, very old and permanent disabled persons. nevertheless, the notion that SNAP/food stamps is some kinda handout for the unworthy persists. yeah, there is a free rider problem, but is not near as significant as many suggest. one reason why the free rider aspect has not been addressed after so many decades is 'cause of the children, old people and disabled persons. so, which one o' those groups deserves to be mocked by dp or gd? so, address the problem, but until you come up with a solution you got many hungry children who still need be fed today and tomorrow and the next day. am curious to hear what is your Constitutional solution to "irresponsible" people having children. will no doubt be fascinating. HA! Good Fun!
  4. half of food stamp recipients is children. 2/3 o' all US supported food assistance benefits children and families with children. darkpriest is okie dokie with children going hungry? all those damn toddlers and tweens with their expectations o' handouts need be taught valuable life lessons sooner rather than later. perhaps implement the kurgan plan as a replacement for SNAP. let the kids fight hungry dogs for meat. sure, few will survive, but the survivors will be uruk-hai, dune fremen, spartan tough. HA! Good Fun!
  5. READ: Transcript of Amanda Gorman's inaugural poem am looking forward to her future work. God bless america. HA! Good Fun! ps stop keystone is gonna be divisive, particular with all the jobs the move will terminate. am personal believing this were the right move, but in spirit of full disclosure we observe we have family and friends 'mongst the protesters.
  6. is perhaps worth pointing out sans irony that the bulk o' fdr clemency were for violations o' prohibition era laws related to trafficking o' booze. HA! Good Fun!
  7. its not the numbers. embraces same logic void silliness as pointing out obama executive orders by numbers w/o context. might as well use obama as an example. total pardons by obama during two terms were 212 btw. commutations (still a felon, but no longer need remain in prison) for obama were +1700 and most o' those went through the ordinary doj review process which takes 'bout two years. obama pardoned and commuted the sentences o' a whole lotta 3-strikes, non violent drug offenders who were doing years and even decades o' time in prison. serious, review the list. bill clinton is indeed offering the best parallels for trump, although again raw, numbers is misleading. bill unapologetically pardoned and commuted the sentences o' many political allies who spent money appealing lawyers with advertised access to the clintons and the clinton foundation to grant pardons. were a doj investigation following bill's presidency but no charges were filed. the marc rich bit were actual distracting from all the other political allies granted clemency by clinton. HA! Good Fun!
  8. the speed with which the script were flipped is curious. now admitted, more than a few minority groups has trust issues with the government and vaccinations in particular. am not expecting reassurances from dr. fauci will change hearts and minds in all quarters. nevertheless, the vaccines cause autism and/or fascism group being aligned and even replaced with the bill gates is nanochipping your brain people is not something we saw coming pre 2015. HA! Good Fun!
  9. had to check. were 1995 for the simpsons. heck, were only three or four years past that antivaxxers were primarily granola moms who stunk o' patchouli. all these changes is not good for old folks such as Gromnir. am still getting used to unleaded gasoline. we long for the good old days. tv should be three channels plus pbs. pay phones were a thing and a call would set you back a dime. am remembering when donald trump were most relevant as a joke gone-too-far in the frames o' doonesbury and bloom county. am not good with change, but last thing we want is a return to 1920. no going back, and that is a good thing, but is important to always keep in mind that road forward may represent regression as well as progress. HA! Good Fun!
  10. y'know, am suspecting it won't be just fox. sure, from noon today fox will be over-the-top selling their nightmares of a socialist state inexplicable delivered by biden of all people, but am thinking cnn, abc, wapo, ny times, 'mongst others has learned one valuable lesson from the trump administration: the press exists to challenge power and not to befriend it. yeah, there will be more than a couple journalists who will sell positive press to get more access. no surprise. after all, there is incredible pressure to be first with the next big headline. and yes, since biden became the democrat nominee, many folks in the press have been selling him as the sea change america needs; is gonna difficult to be objective when you have been selling salvation for almost a year, no? nevertheless, am suspecting one o' the few good changes wrought by the trump administration, though unintentional, will be legit media sources being far less accommodating o' those in power. 'course we could be wrong and first six months to two years o' the new administration could be a biden love fest... and not just at msnbc. HA! Good Fun!
  11. today is the day when the american people finally take that freaking crossbow away from joffrey. HA! Good Fun!
  12. Trump Revokes Lobbying Ban After Promising to ‘Drain the Swamp’ "Trump’s ethics pledge originally restricted political appointees from lobbying the agencies they worked at for five years after leaving government employment. The order also prohibited former political appointees from lobbying work for a foreign government or foreign political party." one o' the few positive executive orders from trump were rescinded. his cronies may continue the grift. HA! Good Fun!

  14. that's adx florence, the only supermax in the USA. HA! Good Fun!
  15. am more than a little uncomfortable with having trump be identified with moses, stripped o' his worldly possessions and honors and driven into the desert to rule serpent and scorpion. heck, am not thinking trump deserves to be favorable compared to charlie heston. HA! Good Fun! ps am ok with the driven into the desert part, but am suspecting all that entails is an extended vacation in dubai.

  17. Off the rails: Behind Trump's post-election meltdown HA! Good Fun!
  18. am curious. which constitutionalist is you referencing? careful, 'cause am recalling your curious stance regarding hk violence compared to your blanket attribution o' such to blm protests. you admitted that the reason you saw blm protests as bad while accepting hk were precisely 'cause o' the motivations o' the blm protesters. meanwhile, am recalling many who pointed out that those involved in violence related to blm protests were not deserving sympathy and should be prosecuted; a position wholly consistent with the condemnation o' Capitol rioters. we got the receipts. do you? you gonna resort to a trumpy, "everybody knows," or are you gonna pony up some proof for a change? HA! Good Fun!
  19. the conversation with debbie lee, grade twelve, is potential gonna be rough. can't imagine it gets easier with mr and/mrs. lee... or any combination or absences o' misters and madams you care to imagine. no matter how you deliver your speech, the student or parent(s) is gonna hear you telling 'em that after more than a decade o' education, their daughter doesn't have what it takes to succeed at a college. same students and parents has been told ad nauseum how important is education, and now a high school guidance counselor or teacher is explaining that debbie should consider working for ups or perhaps attending the hvac school in nearby sheboygan... and that's ok. am suspecting debbie and/or the parent will find little solace in being told that the moribund MBAs who current run the business world, themselves a product o' the school of human potential development which reinforces the self-perpetuating truth that you need to go to the best University possible, are too myopic to realize the value o' a good air conditioner repair technician. is not actual funny and is doubtful debbie or the parent(s) have the same speedy journey as did homer. even if tomorrow there is a sea change in secondary education and the the business world hierarchy, whatever benefits result will not help debbie, at least not today. is no simple fixes. is no magic pills. is no revolutionary innovation capable of fixing for debbie... unless is involving time travel. stuck in denial is why college dropout rate continues to increase? as usual, the fixes involve long term solutions which will not see payoff 'til long after the next election cycle or quarterly report. sell legislators and voters on the need for a bit of economic pain today to benefit debbie's kids? good luck. HA! Good Fun!
  20. like it or not, a university degree remains one of the better predictors o' eventual economic success. if jane goes to college, she will likely make more money, own a home and eventual send her own kids to college than if she did not complete a four-year degree. guidance counselors and teachers is not pushing kids to go to college on a whim or based on bad information... save for recognition far too many young adults is failing to complete their college degree goals. however, economic security for those who get their polisci or art history degree is not a guarantee by any means. diplomas is not willy wonka golden tickets and is worth noting the national college dropout rate has steadily increased since the 70s, and has disproportionate increased for economic disadvantaged groups. our support for not-college has been voiced many times. am believing many persons who fail college could find success in vocational schools, but am thinking the choice to attend a vocational school after they fail college is unnecessarily burdensome to students, and not just economic burdensome. it would be our preference if states could find ways to make college success more likely as well as identifying students more suited for vocational school while removing the pointless stigma which may accompany the vocational school choice... though am conceding we do not feel comfortable with placing the burden on government to make people feel better 'bout their life choices. HA! Good Fun!
  21. is no reason why people cannot bartend to help... but the point being made is that a part time job + summer work could cover most/all o' college expenses once upon a time. people could put themselves through college w/o amassing huge debt or crippling mom and dad's retirement plans. nowadays, such jobs cover cost of books and perhaps personal expenses but not tuition or housing. HA! Good Fun!
  22. am in a curious position: am believing national debt crisis and income inequality is the two biggest national scope problems. am recognizing how difficult it is to fix either 'cause obvious solutions to income inequality is gonna magnify debt. am also one o' the people who saw as axiomatic the pandemic would magnify income inequality. young people today will still be able to buy houses and go to college in the future, but will be increasing difficult unless those young people is from families at the more economic advantageous end o' the income inequality curve. even so, horatio alger stories is possible in 2021, but too many people use such real life stories to perpetuate the myth that the system works fine 'cause a person may indeed go from lowest rungs o' economic strata to the top in one generation. increasing income inequality is in large part what made trumpism possible. polarization political increases as does economic pain. hurlshot is no doubt aware o' the nativism which accompanied the 1920s, yes? am baffled by how little we recall o' the 1920s and how similar is the problems. nevertheless, stephen miller, god help us all, were unapologetic using calvin coolidge policies as a freaking guide for the trump administration. in 2021, inner city urban families is suffering from same core problems as working class americans in the heartland, but thanks to opportunists like steve bannon, hundreds of millions o' people functional sharing the same fox hole see each other as enemies. same nonsense as the 1920s. provide people good jobs, economic security and a little optimism 'bout the future and much o' the anger and most o' the polarization will evaporate. easier said than done, eh? and then we will still have looming and crushing debt... HA! Good Fun!
  23. unless he decides a particular program isn't stupid. however, he will literal kill legal charged peace officers enacting democratic passed and Constitutional laws if he decides the law/program is offensive to his personal sensibilities. *shrug* you are not gonna make headway. HA! Good Fun!
  24. which is exactly what giuliani were faced with when trying mob bosses. HA! Good Fun!
  25. let the investigations play out before trying to predict all charges. sure, for many there is gonna be enough evidence today to charge something and believe it will stick. investigate and discover how much persons knew and when they knew and how many were involved in planning ahead and during the event. *chuckle* would be ironic if giuliani were subject to rico, no? HA! Good Fun!
