  1. Soundtrack to "Phantom of the Opera". Now I was very skeptical of Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, especially after he inflicted Cats on the English speaking societies (and all those lemmings have gone to see it for twenty years), but as I hadn't seen the stage performance I went into the film with an open mind. I saw it at the cinema when it came out, and I was blown away by the sets, costume, acting, score and production. It has just been released for rental and watched it again ... and I can't get those dang songs outa my head! Not to mention that killer signature chord! Round and round and round my head ... "Past the point of no return/No send glances ..."
  2. I don't know of many evil monks (only one springs to mind: Rasputin, and he wasn't even a monk :D ); certainly I am not aware of any evil orders ... I don't think the Kali devotees are regarded as monks, for example. I think I am quite within idiomatic boundaries, if not literal ones, to use monastic as a synonym for "lawful good". And anyway, monastic definition 3 is "self-abnegating"; and as "Dark Side" is generally accepted as "selfish", I think I'm right and you're wrong. Nya nya nya.
  3. That's not a nod, its recycle resources. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> One person's homage is another person's blatant IP plagiarism. "
  4. Castle Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrggggghhh
  5. Only if you swollowed the sword.
  6. '"You created me!"!; what are you talking about, "You created me!"' (try and interpret the inverted commas there and, if your fangirl knowledge is up to snuf, you'll know I'm referring to the denouement on the first Batman movie, just after Nicholson's "Ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?" ... ) Age has nothing to do with coefficient of fanaticism. :D If you are referring to my earlier comparison of Jedi to monks, that's because the Jedi are (allegedly) based on the Samurai/Ninja, who lead a fairly spartan existence. If you aren't, then I have no idea what you are talking about.
  7. ... it's hard for him to type with only his left hand... "
  8. Because, and lets use Star Wars films to compare apples with apllles: ANH was groundbreaking and a true cultural phenomenon; ESB was a better film; RotJ had a terrible second half, subtitled "Muppets save the Universe", and the next two films were even worse. You can interpolate the trend. TCW seemed to be better than TPM, so extrapolating the trend further bodes well for RotS.
  9. We were about here, I think:
  10. And how does that make you feel? I guess that means you ain't no cobbler. :D
  11. Michael Douglas is "Falling Down". Nope. Read "The Lottery" at school, about 25 years ago, though. Any good?
  12. It's Darth, actually. I want a Force Fireball! (w00t) Yep, GL and I share the same coefficient of interest in the pimped out EU garbage -- nought. Only the movies are canon.
  13. (w00t) I couldn't find the frog or lion either, and I searched all over the dang nike site.
  14. Here is a short summary of moral absolutism; also, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights is an example of moral universalism. :D
  15. I thought relativistic morality as described by relativism philosophy is when two sides look at one and the same issue with different point of views. What is "good" for somebody could be "evil" for somebody else. Therefore morality would be only a matter of how you judge an action and not whether it is fundamental or not. In my opinion this philosophy leads to a personal redefinition of morality in which any point of view can be justified. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's cultural relativism of ethics / morality and assumes a (weak) pluralist view of morality (ie cultures have different moral codes, and they are not necessarily based on values that are not equally valid); also known as Moral Relativism. I was talking about relative morality.
  16. But that is what some people understand love to be. They are devoid of empathy, and so only think of love as a one way interaction "How everybody loves me, let me count the ways!" They end up bereft of any companions that might have started off trying to be friends before they found out how skewed the person's personality was. And the sad thing is that these sociopaths have no concept of why they are unappealing; in fact it is generally news to them that they aren't loved by everyone! Kreia could very well have loved the Exile, she just thinks love is a one-way adoration of her tangled personality-free zone. Scary, but unfortunately true.
  17. Chicken.
  18. And I suppose you aren't going to buy one of these ...?
  19. Well I think a disabled person will never get a job in that case, because it will always be more difficult for an employer to employ someone who doesn't fit the average: they will have to spend extra money on the workplace to make it friendlier. And I did say alll other things being equal. (Even good intentions and mandatory legislation backed up with potentially large fines haven't forced 90% of retailers in the UK to even give their premises wheelchair access.) Tsel, I think you are correct. The conservative government in Australia is cutting waste, not immitating Nazis. The only thing worse than mistreating a disabled person is an able-bodied person pretending to be disabled to escape contributing their share to society.
  20. Who's rubbing anything in? I was just making rambling random comments, as usual... this wasn't meant as a dig toward anybody older than me. And I certainly don't care about being or not being "identified" with any particular age group. I was just babbling in typical sagittarius fashion. No offense meant. I seriously don't care about people's age (well, unless they're under 18 and they start hitting on me. Then it's a little creepy.). <{POST_SNAPBACK}> :"> Oops! I was only joking. (Damn emoticons, I am always in such a hurry.) No offence taken (and none meant) -- I thought the rueful demeanour was self-evident. My sense of humour is a little drier than the Antarctic ice shelf.
  21. I think disabled people should be given preference for any work they want to perform. Positive discrimination. Not preference w.r.t. qualifications -- that would be unsustainable and ludicrous -- preference in that, all other things being equal and two candidates are identically qualified, the person with a disability should be given the job. Most people with diabilities don't want to be idle: on average they are more determined and hard working than the rest of us able bodied people. If they are restricted to a wheelchair then they aren't going to gain access to any nightclubs, so they would in fact be more productive than 85% of the workforce as they wouldn't take sickies for hangovers. "
  22. FINALLY, someone on my side in this thread. The books are interesting and fun to read. WHAT is the problem? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Jealousy. It should'a been me wot wrote them stories; I had all those great ideas but she stole 'em and published 'em first, init. Now no one will buy my stories because hers are made into movies and stuff. Cow. Even though I like Star Trek I would have to vote for the saddos that wear pointy ears and dress up and go to conventions etc. They do worry me a lot. I guess it's better they're all there in one place, in case we have to spray / sterilise / imprison them. Also, while there at any of the endless conventions they aren't exposing themselves to innocent people in public parks. " At least Star Trek tries to explain the science behind the art. GL has created such a convoluted and abstruse universe for SW that no-one even bothers to try to explain the science behind it -- why bother, "It's just the way Lucas says it is" -- we have a universe and its living god! Then again, there are at least as many people who wear costumes to SW premiers (and remember SW caters for weirdos with a pet fetish).
  23. True, we need better ways to measure demons. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You mean draw d
  24. I agree, that the chances of all of those cool ideas making it into the game are very slim, but that's how it "should" be! Sure gaming has become a major industry, but I just can't see why they would not want to improve their games!? How many people here were disapointed because of the shortness of KOTOR I + II, because of the lack of explorable areas, or all the other little things that kept those games from being the best ever? Sure that would take alot longer to program, and there is always the presure from the higher-ups to have it released today rather than tomorow, but it's well worth the extra effort. I don't know the sales numbers, and I could be wrong on this, but in my imediate surroundings everybody bought KOTOR because the expectations were high, that it would not only have a great story but also new ideas, by the time TSL came out they were still so disapointed that I was the only one to buy it. So IMO the benefit of longer development time is certainly larger, since it will not only be a better game but also improve the reputation of the developing team as well as the publisher. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Three words: Half Life Two. Despite the ludicrous hype and crushing force of the expectations of millions of fanboys (and fangirls), Valve produced a game that has redefined the whole genre and set a high-water mark for other games to try to live up to and hopefully surpass. I don't agree that capitalism equals selfishness. I think that a good product will return a large amount, but a classic game will allow early retirement. Just because it is possible to burn customer goodwill for the sake of quick bucks doesn't mean the tactic is good in the long term; business acumen tells us that keeping customers is lot easier / more profitable than going out and getting more: that's the strategy.
