  1. Who says games don't teach anything?
  2. Hint: if she pauses at the end of the date and plays with her keys she's waiting for you to kiss her.
  3. I just did an hour of "boxercise" as I have shinsplints ... the instructor (a Yarpie ex-Fireman built like a brick toiletblock) emphasized sqauts today ... not my favourite exercise at the best of times, and certainly painful when he adds "crouch" boxing (where both boxer and the guy with the pads stand with legs at right-angles whilst each takes turns, for a minute, jab-crossing). Still, my aerobic fitness is pretty decent at the moment, so I feel pretty good.
  4. Yeah, the real cause is the "lost generation" of poor who have no prospects. Even if there is no heavenly reward, they could reasonably decide that ending their crushing poverty (and giving their next-of-kin some prestige) is a fair exchange. Of course there is no chance that all but a tiny minority will actually hear any counter argument, and even then it will be more likely a nihilistic plea than an explanation of foreign cultural values. Don't forget that bin Laden is a Saudi, and his poltical agenda is a direct result of the Saud royal house and its relationship with the US. Apart from a "jihad" against the US, he also wants to topple the aristocracy and supplant it with a Caliphate (God's law above man's, which means a theocracy with someone interpreting God's will on Earth).
  5. Watched Close Encounters of the Third Kind for only about the second time since it came out. Actually it stands up pretty well: one can't help but compare the "sinister shadowy government men in orange coveralls" and the equally quaint and antiquated home appliances props in the houses ..! (As if the US would allow some French guy to run around telling them what to do, and as if it would all be under the control of a Colonel ..!)
  6. In other words Mr Nelson is agreeing with you.
  7. To be fair, Microsoft does fund a lot of "blue sky" research. Okay, it might be capitalistically prudent to buy-out any fantastic new idea that might conceivably become a threat in the future, but they are still funding some interesting stuff. (For example, did you know Microsoft have an enormous Linux division? Big and well funded.) Yes, but Linux as an OS is an area MS also operates. I'm talking about investements into totally different economical branches. A big Linux division won't solve Warrens worries (HA!) about simulated behaviour and what not. It was merely an illustration. I was offered a job at Microsoft, for example, based solely on the patent I had registered.
  8. Hanharr? Wasn't he in KotOR2.
  9. Shhh, he's too busy getting hot & bothered to read silly articles.
  10. Hmm, I just installed from the new White Label DVD ... I don't even know if I'm patched to 1.02. Linkie? (Because I will have the UK nerfed version ... :| ... does this mean I need to restart, too? )
  11. Or circumnavigate the globe and sneak up on the Rashemen from the other side ... "
  12. I was going to say "As long as it's turn-based." * Curses for tardiness in this thread *
  13. It's actually more dangerous to be a journalist in Moscow than in Palestine or Iraq. (Oh no3z, I said the "I" word!?!11one1!! )
  14. I use Omega drivers, anyway, which are a couple of revisions behind (but better for laptops).
  15. If by "more budgety" you mean around the middle of the market, between the nosebleed Bok-food down to the integrated stuff, then Yes.
  16. I don't know if many people outside the US would get the connotation of "drink the koolaid". :D
  17. From what I understand (and practise) stretching whilst cold, i.e. before exercise, is just as bad as NOT stretching at all. Stretch after exertion: I do about 10 minutes of exercise (like skipping with a rope) and then stretch. Also, another thing to bear in mind is that the body will convert any excess calories for later use; this means even if you eat nothing but protein, then body will either store the excess as fat, or excrete it. I have a couple of dents on my shins. I woke up after some big nights on the turps wondering why I had bleeding legs. Took me a while to work out (and then anamnesiacally recall) that I had been doing back somersaults off a podium in a nightclub (and not quite making it back to my feet, with my shins connecting with the sharp edge of the podium). Such is the silliness of youth.
  18. Great news, a female gamer to help even out the gender imbalance in geekdom. (I meant great to hear that mother and daughter are happy and well.)
  19. Did boxercise last night, as well (lots of cute Polish dentists in that class, so it was mandatory that I go. :D ) Now I am very sore, so I will take today and maybe tomorrow off to rest. Gromnir = fast twitch meta = slow twitch I have a feeling Grmonir (and most people) would easily outrun me; my only advantage is my pig-headed stubbornness, which I channel into running longer, even if it is slower. Not sure what that means, but that is a good cardio workout. All good advice. I can't tell you how FEW people I see in the gym actually isolating a muscle group correctly, let alone making slow, considered movements designed to tear the fibre effectively, so that the body can repair over the next 48 hours. I was guilty of not stretching much at all ... my brother was worse, he couldn't (not sure about now, this was a decade ago) cross his legs his quads were so musclebound.
  20. Please don't tell me what happens when you sneeze.
  21. OH NOEZ canon crisis!
  22. I haven't read the article(s) yet, but I intend to. Big and well funded.)
  23. Sounds like Atari ... "
