  1. You woudn't happen to know where he disapeared to, would you? I'm starting to worry; it's been nearly two weeks since he posted ... I see no problem with you two filling in. I think more people makes for a more interesting game. Also, the established players have all gained a free round (Spring 1901), and that makes me think the game is still balanced. Ender, if you would take up the mantle of Turkey in the absence of JediConsular7, please; Autumn 1901 is due to be submitted @ noon (GST) on Wednesday, and Winter instructions on Frday. Jags, if you can start to play as if you were Nartwak (some good role-playing practice for you ), then hopefully he will (literally) come on-line and take over. From my understandings, neither has conducted much (any!) diplomacy in the game so far, so you have a free hand. Don't forget to add some official "white" press to the thread to explain all this. (Any "grey" press you may send to me for publication, and even have someone not playing submit some "black" press to the thread: just please keep it in character.) I've updated the first page, as usual. Jeepers, I'm glad I logged on tonight! (I was going to keep on playing System Shock 2; as it is I only stopped for a breather.)
  2. I am sory for your loss. I hope that you don't give up gaming forever, if it really was your mother who inspired you, then I would think she would be pleased to know that you kept on. (Don't worry about the game.) My earnest condolences.
  3. Matches the "new svelte you", too. How's the walking-to-work gig?
  4. Yes. Correct.
  5. I would like to answer ofn the poster's behalf. YES.
  6. 3. T3 might have just been cannibalised for scrap, and some of her experience lost in the barbarity of the process. Or, Revan might have gimped the little one, in order to prevent her from becoming too large a threat ... " 4. Just leave old characters as cameos. Don't include Canderous (again!) or anyone else in the main party: for sanity's sake, people get old, y'know? Not fit for galavanting around the galaxy getting shot at. New blood. New story. New ideas. New. Not OLD.
  7. The answer to all your queries Sending somebody to LA forums? Bad idea... -Battlewookiee
  8. Where have you got this info? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If we told you, then you would know, too.
  9. You mean those things actually work? Wonders never cease ... " -Deleted the part that had to do with the deleted posts... -Battlewookiee

  11. I guess it's like combat in the middle ages: everyone can pick up a sword, but not everyone can be King Arthur or the Black Knight ("Ni!").
  12. Yeah, obviously some continuity is needed for referential anchoring (otherwise The Hulk might turn out to be purple, for example). But being anal about the backstory, when it is quite clear that even the publishers aren't too concerned about it, is just setting yourself up for a fall.
  13. If Billy was really smart, he'd figure out a kosher way to allow PC gamers to play Xbox 360 games on their rigs. After all, that would only lead to increased profits for MS since they take a loss on every piece of hardware sold, the profits are all in the software. If he made Xbox 360 software readily available on the PC (most likely via a method of patching that filled in the neccessary peripheral requirements, and changed the control scheme), then he'd have both PC gamers playing his games, and people that didn't want to fiddle around with a PC (console gamers) at the same time. I imagine if done correctly you could even save on resources that would be taken up selling PC versions of games. And don't tell me it's not possible, there's already at least some overlapping code, anyone who's looked at the .ini file for Deus Ex Invisible War knows this. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The game development process would still need to do extra coding for compatibility testing and whatnot, at which point you might as well just release that PC game because that's what you have now. While easy to port, I think the architectual differences between the XBOX 360 and PC limit simply enabling the XBOX 360 games to run on the PC. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I always though Billy was making a cut-down pc for gaming with his Xbox. It is the next parketing step, in a mature market (just look at Intel and their diversified CPU models, e.g. the Graphics Processing Unit), and one thing that M$ is definitely good at is marketing. (Remember it was Billy who had the then ludicrous goal of "a computer in every home" ...) So, next step is to carve up a mature market into smaller niches: the home entertainment pc, the gaming pc, the internet refrigerator, the home security sentinel, etc, etc ... so people need more than one pc, with lots of lovely M$ software to talk to each other ... The biggest hurdle will not be technical. It will be making decent games that aren't just copy-and-paste ports from the console and its limited feature set. (I can see any resolution / alternate configuration actually taking a performance hit, because of poor programming strategies causing ugly contingency handling.)
  14. Vide ut sub Calax, you really need to relax. Not only would it be almost impossible to keep continuity in the comic universe (as, let's face it, even the publishers aren't interested in doing so), but what would be the point? And then, once you decide to spend 90% of your writing budget to check that all the continuity is sound, which continuity are you going to match? It's just a game, an instant in one of the multiverses, not a integral part of any timeline. It's fantasy, after all.
  15. Can't wait!
  16. Unless you mean to demean Hydrogen, I think you meant to write: "Your servant, Madam."; otherwise it was a neat concealed insult ... " You just realized that? I've never had a level other than "moderator" ... well, not other than the "level" I am now. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes, but in my defence I haven't been a member for that long. I didn't think they sullied themselves: so infra dignitatem. Actually, it just never occurred to me that moderators had levels; that's like a pistol having windshield wipers, or a fly-swatting setting ...
  17. That was my idea! The good bit, the bit about the FS with no clue. (The sucky bit about the poor control over Force Powers wasn't; that belongs in a Harry Potter film.) I think it's necessary for someone who is not a Jedi nor a Sith to do a complete overhaul of the Jedi code; it needs to be taken out and shaken hard, and then put back together from the ground up. Someone who has been inculcated into the Jedi order at a young age is not really in a position to do that, nor would a Sith be interested in the LS, regardless of ethical compass. Certainly anyone reading Sith material seems to be instantly Sithified. So that just leaves someone who is neither Sith nor Jedi, but who has a strong LS leaning, to come and knock the kinks out of the Jedi code, in time for the films ...
  18. I just flicked through this month's PC Gamer looking for something else (The Ballad of Leeroy Jenkins) and there is Bill, page 18, and a big spiel on the future of gaming. It seems that Longhorn and Xbox 360 both support Micro$oft's XNA development platform (which utilises new hardware), so all Xbox peripherals will work on Longhorn PCs and it should be a lot esier to develop games for both platforms ...
  19. This whole incident was staged, according to the latest PC Gamer
  20. You can't believe that the pc is just going to die out! Society is dependant on them right now, there needs to be some sort of evolution, sure. I can see the PDA, mobile (cell) 'phone and the laptop merging, and the home pc and console merging (and communicating between each other, as required), and an office network that interacts with the PDA (in such a way as to maintain security for both the corporate network and the individual). But even if the pc in its current form mutates and is unrecognisable, there will always be games for it. There are games for mobile 'phones and even watches, now! I'm sure Micro$oft is trying to merge its Xbox line with home pc entertainment centres; they just haven't quite got it yet. (It did take them nearly twenty years to move from DOS to Windows NT 5, after all.)
  21. Well, I managed to get the game running. Add the mods as per instructions, they are irrelevant to the performance. The key (for my ATi Mobility Fire GL T2 128MB video card driven system) was to include the safe_texture_manager to the end of the cam.cfg file, rather than the user.cfg file; then it worked seemlessly. (I must say it is very annoying because there are far too many little chimps; they're taking over the ship!) It is a great game. I can see the direct lineage to Deus Ex.
  22. Ah, but it wasn't the puny mammals that killed off the Dinosaurs, it was (probably) the drastic cooling of the Earth as a consequence of the impact of a large and very hard meteor about 57 million years ago. Proto-mammals were just road kill until the big fellas died off and left an ecological space for them to grow into.
  23. Isn't that very similar to Darwinia ?
