  1. Nope, they did want to introduce it, no idea why it was removed though. I mean, this little option would likely be LESS work than adding in Transport consoles on Telos, a guide on Dxun and a speeder on Nar Shaddaa (including damage trigger, additional speeder spawn stuff etc.) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think they were going for a total solution, whereby there were multiple methods to achieve similar effects. But their eyes were too big for their monkey-coding-brains, and they ran out of time and just cut the transit system, because it required a lot of tweaking, as is also true.
  2. ... And, although I respect peoples' right to choose their own lifestyle, I would not be disposed to personally follow said lifestyle. PS I didn't see that episode
  3. Deadline: One Hour to Go. Please make sure all your orders are in for Fall 1901 turn, by the move of the hour hand. Thanks
  4. Well, the point of the game is actually to connive, cajole and co-opt eighteen Supply Centres on the world map. I found the on-line articles to be invaluable. The way to play the game is to negotiate; there is no way to win by brute force in isolation from everyone else. All countries have advantages and disadvantages, the corner countries are easier to defend but they are almost impossible to win from (because bringing up reinforcements from home base gives too much warning to the opposition, who can block the advances); similarly, the central powers are the most difficult because they MUST form strong alliances to even survive the earliest stages. Advice: Know the map. There are some very important choke points. Have a plan. And the plan shouldn't just be attack everyone, or even lie to everyone. If no-one believes what you say, then you can't convince / manipulate / bribe / whatever them. Talk to everyone: my enemy's enemy is my friend. Basically it is a game of persuassion (and that includes deception); it is a stud poker game (i.e. with most of one's cards face up). "Gunboat" games, i.e. race for the flag, aren't anywhere near as interesting.
  5. He also thought there was no way to overdose on cocaine, and prescribed it as a panacea to all his patients ... some of whom died from cocaine overdoses. But, yeah, bloody Russians and their offensive form of defence. I think everyone should attack them from now on.
  6. Also, keep in mind that even though Freud started modern psycho-analysis, he was also incestuously in love with his sister, and beside all that, a loonie.
  7. Just one more IMPORTANT NOTE: EVERYONE please submit CLEAR ADVICE FOR 1901 Fall, in case the game continues from the positions as they are. (You think you have it tough: I have to unpick the mess that you guys are sending me! " )
  8. Boy, does anyone actually do what they promise? "
  9. I didn't read any side of this topic. I only posted my opinion. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So, to answer Arch's question, you are one of those posters who just doesn't think, before posting ... "
  10. Well, GBA has about a billion units sold, so I don't think they're out of the game () yet. Not a lot of meat to the article, though. That's as vague as a Volo statement.
  11. Moves? I thought the deadline was Friday?! not really
  12. Does that mean you send the email or update the first post, first? "
  13. All the world is blind to your presence ...
  14. Now you just have to get there ...
  15. If I have anything to do with it ...
  16. You're incorrigible, Baley! Come on Archie! (w00t)
  17. What's that? Well there's something you don't see everyday, children -- a crocodile crying! Well fancy that! :D
  18. (It is a little unfair on those players who have been religiously keeping to the programme, though. There are a couple of players who have been religious in their adherence to the rules.) I hope the whole game is not too daunting for the newer players. I think that might have something to do with the lack of vim and vigour. Feel free to ask any advice from the GM: I will give impartial advice.
  19. Team, the substitutes have unanimously raised the question of a restart. Ordinarily I would not look favourably on the request, as the game was well advertised and everyone has had the same conditions, but, if Nartwak is ill, then he would have been unfairly disadvantaged. I am asking you all to let me know if you would like to restart: instead of 1901 Fall orders due @noon on Wed (the day after tomorrow: I still have not had provisional orders from all but two of you! ) we would begin the game again, with Spring 1901 orders from the new board. I fully understand the rest of the other players who might think otherwise, however I thought it was worth asking your opinion. Unless you respond to the contrary, I shall assume that you are all in favour of the idea. You should obviously tell me the contrary before noon on Wednesday! What say ye? M. GM Obs 2
  20. Coincidentally, the cover of last week's New Scientist was: Planets in the Solar System: 9 23 I didn't pick it up, but I'm sure it would just be confirming the Kuiper Belt and Oort Cloud flotsum detritus wandering within the Pluto orbit.
  21. There needs to be three pillars for society: Executive, Legislative and Judicial Power. They need to be seperate and equi-powerful. It doesn't hurt to have a free press for a democracy, either. And a libertarian society, based on the notion that the individual is more important than the society, unless that individual is harming the society. (And therein begins the debate to determine what is reasonably meant by all those terms ... ) Liberia has the US constitution. The exact same one. The problem is the legalities cannot be interpreted and enforced, so warlord bandits run riot.
  22. Was the film about the use of military for all global players as they embark on realpolitik, or was it simply an analysis of the US and it's foreign and military policy? I know the US has over 500 bases around the world (like those ones in Egypt that Bin Laden wanted them to remove, and lo! they are being willingly extirpated: so much for the war on Bin Laden ). I also know that the current US military is the direct result of the lack of preparedness of the US in the Global War 1914-45; instead of the twelve-plus months to train volunteers from scratch (ideally it requires 24+ months), the policy since the forties has been to maintain a fighting force capable of two-theatre combat. The Cold War was a nightmare for the entire Earth's population; the only way to end it peacefully was for one power to win the arms race, unquestionably. That has had many, many ramifications; I fail to see the human species living without conflict, however, and the best way to keep the peace is prepare for war. I strongly suspect that the World's only Hyper-Power (for that is what the US is) will indeed be caught in another Cold War; China and India are approaching their once-unassailable commercial dominance (China is set to surpass the US GDP in 2050), which won't cause a war on its own, but combined with the Chinese realpolitik, and a renewed Russia under a de facto Tzar (much like China seems to be), I can see nothing to avoid it. How do you survive as a country? If you've got the answer, then there are a lot of people waiting to hear from you. Don't forget: defence is the first duty of a government, there is not much point in paying taxes and then having your house burnt down by invading soldiers.
