  1. Everything is downhill since Pong.
  2. I hadn't considered the entire sting and rebuff as part of the work, but, Yes: there is an artistic (and tragic) theme redolent in the piece. "
  3. ... Because those are the heaviest, and include 19" screens and last less than an hour on full battery ...!
  4. Your implication is totaly fallacious (as well as being bigoted), i.e. "Because God loves >Christians< more"; insert >Jews< and >Hindus< and any other theological demarcation you care to create.

  6. The only thing wrong is that the guy's a yokel. Really, lots of disabled drivers manage to control a motor vehicle. This guy didn't bother to get a licence: that's what's wrong. Consequently, anyone he accidentally ran over / into / hurt / damaged their property / etc has no legal recourse (because I bet he isn't independently wealthy and able to re-inburse any such person for their loss). (An aquaintence of mine from an old workplace was a paraplegic, and he drove himself to work everyday.) This guy is a stupid ****, giving differently-abled people a bad name.
  7. The Bell Curve made quite a controversial impact (the 1994 book by Richard J. Herrnstein and Charles Murray). The book became famous for its discussion of race and intelligence in Chapters 13 and 14. reference wikipedia
  8. Some fingerprints might be (partially) preserved in the glue, too, if there is any on the external surfaces ... definitely whomever had motive, opportunity and method (ability, knowledge, etc) will do it again ... I would bet they live / know someone who lives in the building. Report it to the police, too; they need people to report all evidence such as this to build cases for later.
  9. I think it is modern art.

Well, Professor and Magneto might have been category five, as well (there is no reason why they can't be); there is no mention of category six (first I've heard of it): I thought they were using the storm rating system. Also, I guess the reason Pyro was Magneto's lieutenant was because all the other mutos were dead.
  11. Dell have notoriously poor battery technology (which is why I bought a Thinkpad after I bought a Dell: IBM have the best battery technology); so be sure to factor in a new battery after 12 months. Mine lasted 12 months almost to the day, then became capable of about eight minutes' total capacity. They also have a nasty cheap look, with all that plastic: and any laptop with enough gear stuffed in it won't be fun to port around. (Again, I bought a Thinkpad "T" model, which is the thin executive model, meaning not the largest screen and total weight < 4kg; my Dell is three years' older ande weighs > 6kg because it has more stuff, e.g. a floppy drive.) Still, the Dell is still going, poor battery notwithstanding, and I use it for a Linux router / firewall / server / stuff.
  12. Ah. I understand. I suppose that many existing customers do not share these sentiments about the controller. Actually I would say that, after reading your response to Haitoku, Microsoft and Sony are going much further to alienate the gaming market; with games for their platforms being of a tertiary priority. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's a valid criticism, but I would say that gamers aren't the primary market for consoles anymore ... it's just that Ninty haven't got any other market segment to aim at. I understand how misguided gamers in general (and their fanbase in particular) might see this as some sort of loyalty to games, but I don't see any real compassion for gamers, just a cold business decision (perhaps including goodwill in the equation). Personally, I imagine that when the time comes for me to make a decision, in six or twelve months' time, gaming will not be the primary concern. :/ Volourn has severe autism. It's pointless to discuss subjects with him. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Don't poke the animals.
  13. That sounds like either a driver conflict or (leading to) a memory leak. Anyway, enough of TOMBS, I'm off for another bout of The music is fab!
  14. I will have to read it soon, because he will not let me not read it for much longer (even though he lives on the antipodes fo the planet). Crichton normally researches his novels well (Andromeda Strain, ER, etc), which is my friend's argument; I am still very skeptical, myself.
  15. I AM DEFINITION!
  16. I really enjoyed Highway 17 and the beach incursion with the ants ...
  17. I tended to lose Dog's ball trying to shoot the hoop (and it sails out of sight, instead). I shall try the ol' Dog's ball trick, next time ... :D
  18. If it takes a while (half-an-hour from boot) to crash, and when you restart the game straight away, there is no problem for a similar amount of time, then it is probably driver-related. Otherewise, it is probably temperature-governed. NVidia have some weird FEAR driver issues, I was reading, like it is the only game that has a working profile for Quad-SLI (that is faster than ordinary SLI), so I wouldn't be surprised if their drivers are a little wonky at the moment. Still, there shouldn't be issues with the DVD ... you might want to try the "no-CD" crack, or copy the entire DVD to a new partition in your harddrive ...

You can buy temperature probes and an auto-fan speed kit for the box.
  20. Well, I would contend that the consoles aren't primarily game machines in this generation: they are more the interface between the tv and the internet: streaming movies and music and whatever other entertainment into the living room. Sure people (in the target demographic) will buy games to play, but the primary box-shifting impetus is the FIRST: set-top broadband management facilities (Xbox 360 running Windows Media Centre Edition versus PS3 running Linux) and SECOND: next gen storage format (blu-Ray, HD-DVD) and THIRD: games. Alienating how? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Gimping the game inteface to win over people who have never played a game, rather than beat up the other consoles and take their lunch money. I commend it for business acumen: finding new markets, less competition, better return on investment, etc. I just don't get how (if what I understand is true) the fan base will be pleased to use a wand instead of a joypad to control four instead of fourteen controls. Sure, Mario 3D was a new (and arguably) more advanced game ... but it sucked. I am not convinced that the very thing that demarcates the Wii from the competition isn't the biggest reason for fans to leave. Not that I am advocating graphics whoring, or pimping consoles for the sake of it: I am quite happy to play a text adventure, for example. I guess what I am saying is that the wii looks like step backwards, not forwards, to pick up new gamers (and hope that the older ones don't notice). I just think that the new controller sounds pretty lame, and that Ninty have done a Double-Plus-Microsoft marketing effort.
  21. Hoff: the shock troops of awe!
  22. I think it is entirely possible that all the damage Jean Grey did as Phoenix may very well have been (conveniently partially) reversed with her death.
  23. I would get new locks. Also a scutcheon plate. And a CCTV camera/proximity sensor with hidden off-switch, hooked up to a 10000 volt actuator on your door.
  24. Or maybe Christianity proved worhtless to those people under their distress, so they needed a better religion.
