I'm pretty much the same, but would also add that I am also happy to pay full price for the games I like and don't wait on a sale to buy them. And to add to previous discussion, I also never ever pay any attention to Steam's collective ratings of reviews (i.e. very positive, mostly positive, mixed, etc.).

Continuing on with my Solasta playthrough with the Unfinished Business mod. The 6-person party is just so awesome! Exactly how the game should be played. I'm not using too many other features from the mod, mainly the option of removing attunement and including multi-classing. Difficulty has not been affected in any meaningful way. I've made a few tweaks here and there to keep the challenge balanced, and that's it. Only wish the game had more story and characters heft.

The TV and Streaming Thread: US Writers/Actors Strike Edition

Hey, any of you see the new NBC drama 'The Irrational'? I watched the pilot episode yesterday and it looked pretty decent (for now). As a behavioral scientist myself, I found a lot of what they were talking about re. our memory often being our own worst enemy very interesting. Wondering if anyone else watched the show and/or has any thoughts on it. -
Yeah I also have come across these same points being made by people when I did my research on Dell machines. So that's why I'm a bit torn. From a customer support POV Dell has been very good to me over the years (two Dell machines in a row at around 8 years each), and the machines generally worked fine. But those issues of inadequate power supply and motherboard do worry me.
-
I thought about this, and although I'm above average on being tech-savvy I don't think I know enough (on both the hardware and software sides) to do a trustworthy job. And with a DIY I would also need to know how to fix/maintain the machine later on for years. Oh, I should also ammend the cost estimate. Dell currently has an additional discount of $850, so it would actually cost me $3250. Plus free shipping. And since my understanding from Googling is that the 4090 alone is currently retailing at around two grand, that price seems okay for: i9 CPU, 2 TB SDD storage, 32 GB SDD RAM.

Yes it can certainly come across as overkill. But the reason I always go for as much as I can get when I buy a new machine is that I then keep that machine for a very long time. My current machine is 8+ years old, and that's roughly been my average. So my pattern is to go big and then sit on that machine for longer than most people would before the next refresh, because I'm very pro-status quo/don't like change until change is absolutely necessary, and I also hate the whole process of migrating my stuff from the old to the new. Heck, even my car is now 16+ years old and definitely needs a refresh. But at current new car prices ... sheesh!! Edit: CPU is the i9

Hey good folks, I don't want to create a separate thread for this question, but hopefully it also won't be considered too off-topic. I'm in the process of buying my new gaming desktop computer. As my last two machines were Dell, I think I will just stick with Dell again, as I actually had a really good experience with Dell Support in fixing something with my current machine a few years ago which they did at no cost to me even though my warranty had expired. The machine I'm looking at has the Nvidia 4090 GPU. Question 1: should I wait for the 4090 Ti? Question 2: My current customization of the machine is for 32 GB of RAM. Going to 64 GB would add $500 to the already-hefty tag of around $4100. Worth it? I would welcome any and all thoughts and feedback. Thanks!

That's because they *chose* to not do anything to help in Hawaii. But that choice has nothing to do with their choices on Ukraine. These choices are independent of each other is what I'm saying, whereas you are linking the choices together. There is no evidence to support that they chose to not do anything in Hawaii only *because* they chose to help Ukraine, which is what you are claiming and the part that I am disagreeing with. So, two separate, independent, and unconnected policy choices being made by the president: 1) Help Ukraine (I strongly agree with this policy decision choice) 2) Don't do squat for the people of Maui (I strongly disagree with this policy decision choice) Two separate issues and decisions. No either/or.
-
I'm sure this will be given as a rationale, but I sure don't buy it. Not for even a second. After all, it certainly doesn't then explain the president doing exactly this same song and dance with other systems time and again: "no we won't," "no we won't," "no we won't," "no we won't," "okay fine, we will."

But this is exactly why even though I've been happy that Biden has supported Ukraine I still criticize him. What's the point of having waited so long to do this if you were going to do it anyway? If Biden had done this months ago, even a year ago, it would have made a huge difference to Ukraine's war effort. And he kept doing this exact same thing with weapon system after system ... again and again. Why???!!! Just so maddening.

You are absolutely correct about this, and such people exist even here in the US. The US is indeed held to a very different standard (a double standard) than any other country in the world, and not just compared with countries like Russia and China but even other Western countries. But I will give some credit to those people who are at least honest about their double standard, even if the arguments they make to justify their double standard are complete B.S.
-
No, the reason people say things along these lines is so that it serves to justify their indifference toward the war and the plight of the Ukrainians. A lot of people in the world today, unfortunately, just don't want to be bothered by the plight of other people in the world. But they also want all those bad things happening out there to "go away" so that their indifference doesn't make them look bad.

Wow! I had the exact same experience during the ethnic violence of '83 in my old country when I was 16 years old. An armed mob showed up at our home looking for people of my ethnic group to kill. We barricaded the front door and I stood behind it (as a very scrawny 90lbs kid) holding one of those big ceremonial brass lamps from my religion, ready to bash at least one guy coming through the door before I was killed.

The TV and Streaming Thread: US Writers/Actors Strike Edition

I did read online essentially the same thing, that among all the current crop of ST shows this one's the best. But unfortunately, since my previous post, I've learned this was just a one-time airing of only the first two episodes, as a way to entice people to subscribe to their service as part of the newly-created "Star Trek Day" bash. -

ST: Strange New Worlds is being aired on broadcast CBS. I've not paid much attention to you guys talking about the show up until now because it was a streamed show. So what are people's thoughts on this show? Is it worth my time? I've set the DVR to record it, but ....
