  1. The post that keeps on giving. That link was perfectly hilarious Gogocactus!
  2. Amen to that. I love using a particular Wood Elf portrait from IWD2 but the only red color for wood elves is hideously unnatural in tone. Well so is the red hair in the portrait, but a different unnatural
  3. I wish I had the save still, but I will say that in my case, I made the slow stag druid merc in gilded vale act 1 before the boots of speed were available. Abandoned the game in the catacombs of act 2 due to the bug. Next time I will be a better nerd and keep a save.
  4. I had a similar issue with my druid merc. Stag druid who at the start of combat would move extremely slow, would slow down everyone behind her and get my front line overwhelmed without back line backup. Had to redesign the party without her.
  5. Ha! I came to bump this because I figured it got buried over the weekend only to find a new patch already. You all are on fire, thank you.
  6. I encountered this bug in my play through as well. Thugs involved in the Salty Mast quest were unootable. Same thing happened with the spirits inside Caed Nua throne room on multiple games.
  7. The first time I spoke with my marshal about my army for the coming battle I was told I could hire veterans for 10,000 gold without a warning. I did not have that much on me at the time, so came back after selling. Now the marshal wont give the option to upgrade, and it doesn't seem like you would make that a one time check for a huge amount of gold. I have tried the battle without veterans and its a bleak affair. Required files in linked zip. https://www.dropbox.com/s/lx8quti5yd6it9m/POEbug.zip?dl=0
  8. I certainly do not want Chris sued over it, that would be a tad overly litigious. I wish the man well in is future endeavors. It would have been a bit classier to complete an obligation he had made during his employment, but recent events have lead me to the conclusion that I like my favorite game developers happy with their projects and their studios. Quite a few talented developers have been moving to nostalgia based studios like Beamdog, Obsidian, and inXile. Warren Spector is making new System Shock and Ultima Underworld games while David Gaider and Chris Avelone gets to try their hands at a smaller dev cycle again. Sorry off topic but I do think its exciting.
  9. I wanna try at interpreting lore! Speculation begin! 1. Most gave their souls to create the gods, those who did not became missionaries to spread the word or agents whose task it was to hide the creation of the gods. Strike deals with the glanfathan. 2. Agreed with Eisenheinrich. His motivations are not evil to him, but stealing the souls of unborn babies probably ends you up on a few naughty lists. 3. I believe Woedica uses her influence to to keep his soul intact. She keeps it either outside Berath's Wheel or fully intact and reincarnated if he does die. 4. All signs point to true death, but on this one even I am hesitant to speculate. 5. Caed Nua was giant and crazy because an ancient noble who lost his son at a young age went mad from the loss and began building the Endless Path to deal with it/ build a giant Adra body for his very dead son. Reminds me quite a bit of Sarah Winchester and the Winchester Mystery House.
  10. I know its the silence on the matter that is under some folks skin, but I will say that the published short stories were really enjoyable. If your waiting on the novella but have not checked out the short stories, they are all worth the read.
  11. I got the sense, or rather I should say I interpreted it as, The world in its infancy had many gods and was rather chaotic. Human sacrifices, lots of war, everything rather uncertain. None of these disparate faiths showed sign of legitimacy, no spiritual or soul manifestations of miracles or proof of existence. The advanced engwithans searched for such gods as the pinnacle society of the ancient world, and studied the soul enough to realize that there are no true gods, no order higher order to existence. In searching for the gods, the Engwithans had elevated their understanding of the soul to the point that they could in fact create the system of higher order they had been searching for. So in their uplifted understanding and with profound arrogance, the Engiwthans became the gods they thought the world needed. Ugh that was a long way of me saying I dont believe the Engwithan pantheon destroyed the old gods, I think the Engwithans figured out there were no gods, and made their own.
  12. I could not agree more. The disposition system can seem restrictive at first as a paladin or priest, but I immediately began enjoying the roleplaying. My priest of Skaen in particular challenged me to roleplay in ways I would normally have avoided, and the Wayfarer rewarded my unshakable do gooder streak in games.
  13. I love playing through as a paladin. Resolve is a great stat to have on your player character. Resolve comes up quite often in conversation, and in the choose your own adventure segments. In the beginning of the game, I like going with a sword and board build, and then about mid game you can respec into a great support/damage 2-hand build or stick with being a self healing tank/support. The Kind Wayfarers have at least a few unique dialogue choices through out the game, and some of their order-specific talents can help healing while dealing damage for late game damage builds. You wont ever feel like the MVP of combat like with a rogue, unless your MVP moments involve always being the last alive to possibly squeeze out a win. Cipher also has quite a few unique dialogues, and the new patch has their balance at what I think is a most fun yet. Intellect is probably a second place to resolve in useful main stats for conversations. The physical/magical combat is fun and high damage, but you wont feel like a total game changer like a good rogue. Cipher is a bit harder to keep alive in melee ranks compared to rogue as well, at least for my tactics, so i tended towards a ranged build there.
  14. Sorry bud did not mean to spoil anything, just figured a lore post in the Story: Spoilers forum didn't need redundant warnings.
  15. Good observation on the iconography. I doubt the place of creation for all the gods would have all Woedica iconography, especially the giant statue at the top of burial isle where you enter. But once your down their, the structure seems so massive it could house or lead to other chambers similar to Sun in Shadow. Remember the way you had to enter the temple was with the blessing of a god, and the fall you make seemed unnatural, with my PC able to control his body by will alone (resolve checks) on your way down. Sun in Shadow might not even be in Eora, but a pocket plane that reflects and is shaped by the nature of the god residing there, entered from several locations all linked. This might be guessing at bit more D&D cosmology than Eora tends to share, but remember you send some Snow Elves into Rymrgand's snowy, entropic realm. Rymrdand's Realm show us that these "gods" may actually make and reside in pocket plane "afterlife sanctuary" for their followers. This seems like a shaky theory however, because Thaos and the PC use a different entrance within Teir Evron, which lead to the Council of the Stars, where mortals commune with most of the gods. Then there is the fact that Sun in Shadow was also a soul prison. Woedica is The Exiled Queen, The Queen That Was, perhaps Sun in Shadow was built by the Engwithans at the direction of other gods to imprison not only the unfaithful, but the disposed Woedica herself. Edit: Thanks for sharing your good memory Infinitron!
  16. I have a question for fellow lore nerds in the community, but first let me share the assumptions I am making in asking my question. Perhaps I am wrong but I got the impression from the game that the final location, Sun in Shadow, was the site in which the ancient Engwithan citizens (perhaps all wronged or disposed nobles, given the god) gave their souls to create Woedica. Woedica being a "god" perhaps in representing a particular sentiment or ideal that all who gave their souls shared. Perhaps it was the design of the place that ensured the nature of the intelligence or "god" being created. I guess my question is this, do you believe this location was where Woedica was created, or all the other gods? Or is this simply a location where followers of Woedica commune and empower their god with souls? I do not get the impression that the Engwithan society was spread far out of the Dyrwood region, so either all their gods (whose reach encompasses all of currently explored Eora) were created in Sun in Shadow or there are 10 other creation sites within this small region. Anyone else interested in this or have an opinion?
  17. Gotta put a bump on this, I really do think that fans deserve an official answer on this one, which has been ignored for some time. I really enjoyed the game, Obsidian did a great job, but staying silent on this one still is quite unbecoming. Rude even!
  18. I think PC Gamer was on to something giving this title "Spirit of the PC" award. It belongs on a PC in a way few titles do. Now can the plebeians stop asking for story modes and console ports? Everything costs money in game development, and in a title like Pillars asking for these silly things may give the developers the horrible idea that they should be implemented and given time and money at the company. Its to late for story mode, lets not start the console talk and worry instead about the sequel. "But BoffMoffet, I wanna dual wield guns in POE and the combat is hard!! I cant sit in my recliner and play with a controller!" *slap*
  19. Eh, I have used all of the companions on POTD and even being lazy with my tactics found their stats to be sufficient in combat while effectively representing the written and implied strengths and weaknesses of their characters. The designers and writers seemed to put some real thought behind them, and not just "how can they be most effective" lazy thought. I have a hard time min maxing though, even on mercs. Every time I try to do it I think just how one sided and absurd the resulting character would be. I dont mind wasting 2 or 4 of my stat points to give my companions, pre-made or merc, the necessary "role play appropriate" distribution. I am of course capable of seeing the other side of this argument, and I am glad repsecs were added for those who wanted them. Providing options is usually the best route in game design. If the masses want to create the video game equivalent of a whole team of Mary Sues, let them control characters stats. Just like all bad Mary Sue fiction, the authors will get their jollies and I can choose not to read it, or in this case, click that respec stats button.
  20. Me: Wow, look how great the reload animations on the crossbows and gunpowder weapons, what a great touch of authenticity! They pack the powder! Look at that crank action! OP: Godlike Rogue dual wielding pistols and a pair of sunglasses please!
  21. I think if they continue to follow the formula of the infinity engine games Readceras could make some sense. Throughout BG1 they alluded to the war between Balurs Gate and Amn, (Hello Lord Forshadow!) then moved on down to Amn for Baldurs Gate 2. With the Saints War so heavily featured in PoE, maybe looking at the fallout of that war in Readceras is next. I hope not though, The Vailian Republics sounded very intriguing to me, and its proximity could keep Glanfathan culture still heavily in the mix.
  22. Sounds like something has gone very wrong in your character creation if you did not pick a animal companion then.
  23. Look, I love Pillars of Eternity. It is wish fulfillment to a high degree. I wanted a BG2 spiritual successor and they delivered. However its been out six months and some of the nasty, game breaking bugs were just patched out, and even that patch broke as much as it fixed for me. (In a item collecting RPG like BG2 or PoE, your inventory eating random UNIQUE pieces of loot is game breaking to me) This last patch gave me back "out of combat" accuracy ratings but ruined my Sagani's stats and now my PC character paladin's flames of devotion does not apply flame damage if his soulbound redeemer procs, just to name two new bugs. That makes two patches in a row that created bugs as nasty as the ones I wanted patched out. I guess I expect bugs but not to such a high degree after 6 months of patching. Its all OK though because Obsidian is working on it, check out this quote from a 2012 interview! "We as a company got into a big room and we said, ‘We are not gonna make buggy games anymore,'" Urquhart said. So they designed an entirely new bug-tracking system—a computerized program that automatically sends crash reports to their engineers. Their last bug-recording system, Urquhart said, involved pens and paper. "I think that's what people are gonna see from us from now on—they're not gonna see buggy products," he said. "I dunno what the exact count is, but we're a ways away from being done on South Park and we've already fixed 10,000 bugs."
