What are you playing now?
I haven't tried the game yet (still on my Gamersgate wishlist), but it sounds like a "modern" era version of Europa Universalis: Rome, where you sometimes spend more time managing your family, dynasties, insubordinate subordinates, executing those of your generals whose popularity may eclipse your own etc. I think I'll grab it next time I go shopping there.

Deus Ex Human Revolution at 66% off. It's very tempting, but I doubt I'll ever get around to playing it. Never got into the original either.

Insane 2 For those days when you just want to drive into things and smash stuff. Edit: Maybe also because I liked Insane (the original)

Which stylists? Which Greeks? Mycenean Greeks? Archaic Greek? Classical Greek? Modern Greek? French is just a bastardised hybrid of Roman (Latin) and the Germanic that the Franks spoke at the time of invading France.

The New Classics
Erhhh... without reading the thread again, what was it that made a game a classic? Fanaticism of fans, sheer numbers sold, how often it's used as reference point for similar games? etc.

Mass Effect 3
Investment companies (e.g. publishers) wants as much return of investment as fast as possible. Otherwise they won't have that return to reinvest asap in the next project. The faster you get your money back, the faster it can get reinvested, the higher the profitability. Not much different from a financial institution or a movie company.

Mass Effect 3
Slightly similar to Gratuitous Space Battles. Everything is in the planning and equipment selection. Then you hit the start movie button Jah man... Don't mess with da dreads man... Galactic peace man... (yes, Gorths rastafarian imitations suck) Similar approach here. My wallet may only be one vote amongst a million, but if I don't use that vote, I can't claim moral high ground. Starting with FO3, I buy DLC's (what few I do buy) in bundles at discounts or not at all. If I suspect that the main game is going to be designed deliberately as a launch platform for DLC's I'll not bother at all. Just another reason for waiting and see how a game turns out, study player feedback, lets-play videos on youtube etc.

What you did today
Watching the soap opera that is Australian politics on the morning news. Glad I'm not allowed to vote. The choice is effectively between somebody whose tools are lies, poison and daggers in the back (the current PM) versus somebody who is just a moronic simpleton (the opposition party). Yay for democracy.

What in the name of skilfully poised ****?
Flags used to be pretty important in European culture though. Wars waged and uncountable numbers of people killed over the use of (and desecration of) symbols. Heck, the Danish flag was given to the Danes by God during a military campaing in Estonia, liberating Estonia from the Estonians, complete with rays of sunlight, booming voice and the sounding of horns. It was used ever since, replacing the Raven banner.

RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS THREAD!
Gametrailers gives it a whopping 8.2. Can't tell how they comment on it because my speakers just died, but it looks like nothing I would bother with. I think your speakers were trying to save your sanity. I watched the first 5.5 minutes and had quit out of sheer boredom. I shiver by the thought of having to sit through the entire game

What in the name of skilfully poised ****?
Just gonna say, as a mentally ill person myself (had 2 trips to state-run mental institutions for various reasons) I think he has a point though, when 'American Psychiatric Association' has declared "grief" a mental illness and open up a new market for treatment with drugs, it sounds like insanity to outsiders.

Putin wants to return to the Cold War
I'm not sure I would rely on sanctions and diplomacy either, when sharing 3500+ Km border with an increasingly expansionistic China.

Mass Effect 3
If they had made something with more believable physics (no rubberband gravity) and genuine variety, it could have been a valuable contribution to the game rather than feeling like "filler". Not that I think they did it because they hate people, but because it was what was possible within time and budget scope.

Goodbye GOG.com
Hmm, bought Age of Wonders (already had II and III), Septerra Core (always was curious about what it's about) and Syndicate (despite not having the expansion).

RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS THREAD!
You never tried Tomb Raider Legend? Because Anniversary is about ten times better than that. I was really disappointed in Legend, but I found Anniversary quite good. Not good as the original TR but good anyway. I've completed both Legend and Underworld twice. Never could stomach Anniversary (made it a bit more than halfway through). Probably because I can't help comparing it to the original, which blows anything CD has ever made out of the water.
