  1. Without a doubt a bait post, but I'll bite too. The content that they were forced to remove was created by a backer, not Obsidian themselves, so we have no reason to distrust their writing. It also doesn't seem like romance is a major thing in Deadfire, so I doubt that characters will need to discuss their sexuality. The only "delicate" topic as it were, is Eder's racist beliefs towards Orlans. But that seems pretty reasonable considering the setting. Good for them for including mature themes. All in all, I'm hoping that the SJW thing was a 2017 craze, and that it won't resurface in 2018.
  2. As always Boeroer, you give good advice. Just tried a Assassin/Skald with a Great Sword + maxed Str and Per. Knocked the first Langufaeth for 240 damage crit (I think the highest damage I've scored in Deadfire so far). Then froze the rest with Killers Froze Stiff and took them out at my leisure. Paralyze isn't as ridiculously strong as in PoE1, but it's still extremely powerful. Man, Chanters get all the cool toys. Poor wizards.
  3. Started a dedicated Chanter thread, since they don't have one yet: https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/95581-chanter-subclasses-discussion/
  4. Alas, it was the druid that got hurt the most when Might changed back to strength. He's either a pretty mediocre jack-of-all-trades, or he has to specialize.
  5. What do you chaps think of the Chanter subclasses? Beckoner: I'm really excited to play with this guy, because I think a Beckoner/wizard would make a sweet "necromancer" type character. But why, oh why does a summoning specialist get a bonus and a penalty to summons? Most of the other classes get a penalty that's directly opposite to their specialty. Did they think faster summons would be too OP? Skald: This is supposed to be the melee based Chanter, but does he get enough to make him a melee specialist? I suppose he would work if combined with a rogue or fighter, but I'm not sure how appealing a single class Skald would be. Troubadour: This is the singer/support Chanter, but... I dunno, seems kind of boring to me. I wish instruments had made it into the game (as a unique trinket for Chanters), so the Troubadour could get some unique bonuses from them.
  6. I agree that it's a little difficult to judge what "4m" means in game. But we have more than enough melee characters. Why not leave the Sharpshooter to be a ranged specialist as the name implies? You can play a Stalker if you want a melee ranger.
  7. I kinda liked the little level 0 cantrip spells in White March. Obviously they felt cantrips weren't necessary anymore since everything is per battle now. Still, variety is the spice of life and all that.
  8. Hey Joe. The devoted is currently bugged and allows you to select multiple weapons. In the final version of the game, you'll only be able to choose one.
  9. As far as I know, Deadfire also uses Unity. However, the graphics are much improved, so if you're having difficulty running the 1st one, then I imagine you'll run into worse problems with Deadfire. Perhaps you should consider upgrading your PC/graphics card before purchasing?
  10. I'm all for talking my way out of fights, but do you really want to talk your way through the final boss? Well, I suppose Arcanum let you do that... Anyway, my advice would be to reload an earlier game and level up a little. Sorry!
  11. I think it's randomized. And usually they were easy, but occasionally you got an annoying one.
  12. I like the world map, but I wish we could land anywhere (or at least in more places) with our ship. You have these huge islands but for some reason, only a single spot on each island (which is completely indistinguishable from the rest of the coast) is usable as a landing place.
  13. Haha, I like your username. However, I'm sorry to inform you that conjured weapons are not nearly as good in Deadfire. They take time to summon and are at best only slightly better than an ordinary weapon now. Another problem is that might has been changed to strength (physical attacks only) so spell/melee multi-class characters must split their points. That being said, there is still plenty of time left in the beta and these things may change again.
  14. It's really bad UI, but you can get back by closing the single/multi class box with the x in the top right corner. Happy New Year btw
  15. Look, the fact is, no matter how beautiful your message is, bad storytelling makes a bad movie. I don't care if they wanted to make the heroes people of color or the bad guy an angry white boy. All I wanted was a good, logical plot. And they couldn't deliver on that. It's clear that JJ Abrams and Rian Johnson had very different ideas, making the story disjointed. Too many cooks spoil the broth and all that.
  16. Hey guys. I saw the Last Jedi today. I need to rant. I don't even care about the SJW diversity stuff. It was just such a badly written disjointed story that I was shocked. How did the writer pitch the story? Was it something like: “So, we’ll have them run away from a Star Destroyer for 18 hours until they run out of fuel. Meanwhile, Finn & Rose will go find a hacker (does a group called “the rebellion” not have any hackers of their own?) They’ll go to a Casino Royale planet to find a Master Hacker. They won’t contact him ahead of time. No, they’ll just show up randomly and try to identify him by his red pocket square. By extreme co-incidence, Rose also grew up on Casino Royale, where she… raced funny looking animals for weapons testing?”… and it just goes on like that! One silly objective after another to keep them running around and visiting exotic places. While heavy handedly throwing in old Star Wars themes like “the money-loving mercenary”. All they needed was a cool Jedi training montage with Luke showing Rey some cool fighting techniques and it would have been a hit! But instead of a wise Jedi Master, Luke comes off as a complete moron. He creepily stands over his students while they’re asleep, senses the darkness in them, and contemplates killing them. Then when they react badly to this, he gets all emo and wants to end the Jedi Order. (Oh, but don’t worry, those Holy Jedi books weren’t exactly pages turners… hahaha... Did I mention how many unfunny jokes there were in the film?) I just… I just… want my 3 hours back *breaks down sobbing*
  17. You'd think a guy with "ninja" in his username wouldn't hate on J-RPGs
  18. Very interesting to look at. Thanks for making this. Makes it clear that while the dispositions are used very often, we only get a sprinkling of unique reactions for background, race, and culture. Well, I suppose it would be weird to force that stuff into the dialogue. Interesting that the Fire Godlike get by far the most comments out of all the races (sure, they're freaks, but so are the other Godlike).
  19. I think J-RPGs are a little different. They tend to have highly controlled storylines (read: less player freedom) and also tend to be less realistic in the monster department (so if a red goblin in a new area is twice as strong as a green goblin in the beginners area, well, no one is too fussed). As such, there's usually not to much of an issue going from level 1-99. On the other hand, I think games like Pillars\Deadfire aim for a certain degree of realism in challenges. I hate scaling because if you can kill a dragon, then there shouldn't be some artificially boosted goblin that gives you a hard time later on. So I agree with Tigranes. A flatter power curve would be better. Maybe instead of boosting lots of stats, just give us more tools for the job.
  20. You're on the ball lately with the click-baity titles mate Sure, there are a few issues where the community is split down the middle (such as the Might vs. Strength thing) but there are also some issues that we can agree upon (say, casters being weak at the moment) and we're providing valuable feedback in the form of bug testing. I'm such Obsidian will take what is useful and discard the rest.
  21. The title makes me think: No one knows you're a dog on the internet
  22. You too? Man, I've never been able to get into the Witcher series despite how people rave about it. Made me worry that my RPG-dar was broken.
  23. Dude, we get it. And your logic is sound. But the good doctor is right. It only takes one overblown "racism" scandal to mess up Deadfire's reputation. Remember that silly tombstone fiasco from Pillars? PS In Deadfire, there's a 4th type: Storm Folk
