  1. Because an avatar of PeeWee ( aka Turbo-Fist aka Fur-Paw ) might get him into trouble. (w00t)
  2. At the tender age of 23 years old! Let's all give him a hand and warm wishes of encouragement for his future.
  3. Depending on budget, what's available for up to $200 USD?
  4. :D If it makes you feel any better, I'd still using a P3 550 Mhz as my internet computer. It's 6-7 years old and a piece of crap. I'm about to put a bullet into it and rebuild it to a 3000+ ( old parts left over from another rebuild ). Much as it's been a continuing frustration, I've learned a lot by limping this turd by over the years.
  5. One of the ways that Christianity worked it's way into key areas of culture and society was the fact that they promoted literacy so strongly. This is where the term clerical comes from BTW. Key areas of society were held by Christians because they were of the few that were literate and thereby help preserve history ( or at least their version of it ). I will grant that the promotion of literacy at the time was used to serve the Church's interests at the time but that would be only nateral and did help to shorten the Dark Ages by preventing a total decline into barbarism. Is it disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church? No. Did it used to be disgraceful during that day and age? Yes. Paul was writing practical rules to a Middle Eastern people 2000 years ago. Most churches understand that. I really haven't heard of anything like this before now. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Unfortunately, we have a church in LaPorte, Colorado that still subscibes to this view. I don't remember that name of the church but it is run by Pete Peters ( Doin' the 'White Thing' ). Interesting character. A White Separatist in addition to his other sins. His wife Cherie ( I think ) adheres to it as well ( cheerfully, I might add ).
  6. Thank you for making me blow Coka-Cola all over my monitor. :D
  7. Now this looks like it has way too much potential for fun! Know anyone you want to screw? (w00t)
  8. Your other choice is to look up someone on-line that you can download an up-dated BIOS for your motherboard. Load this onto a floppy. Load the floppy, restart your computer and start praying . If it works, everything is great. If it doesn't, you're now the proud owner of an expensive boat anchor. If you want to try the flash-the-BIOS thing ( russian roulette ), talk with Cant. He mentioned recently that he's done it several times without any problems at all.
  9. Fixed ( sorry, couldn't resist. )
  10. WITHTEETH, I've been using larger drives on my old, internet computer for several years now. I don't have good news for you. If your old motherboard ( and BIOS ) couldn't recognise the large drive, it may have formatted it to 31.4 Gb. If it did that you're screwed. Even updating your drive info won't give you the rest of the drive. When you were setting up the drive, did it ask you about the partitioning and make a remark about it being a larger drive? I installed a 160 Gb drive and the partion change became permanent to the drive. I haven't yet been able to remove the partion. If you put a smaller drive in Master position, once WinXP is in place, it will run and recognise the larger drive but the BIOS will not ( without 'flashing' it ). That's why the large drive must come on-line after WinXP is in position to control it. There are drive adapter PCI cards that will overcome the 137 Gb barrier but I don't know what they will do as far as the Master drive is concerned. They work better for older OSs like Win98. If you can't get it to work fairly soon, take it back and tell the store that the drive is defective and get another one. Place it as secondary and buy a 120 Gb drive for C drive. Sorry bud. If you can make it work, let me know how so I can repair the drive I have now that only allows me to use 1/4 of it's capacity.
  11. Considering that the owners of this board make their living by writing games that they sell to people, I'd guess that your request was probably in bad taste.
  12. Drag it back on topic guys.
  13. Say goodbye to the nice 'bot peeps.
  14. :"> Since I haven't been into electronics for a while I hadn't heard anything about that and thought you were teasing me. ( sets aside tin foil hat ) What impact does neutron flux have on circuits? I would have assumed that since a neutron has no charge that it's effect could be ignored.
  15. It wasn't nearly so entertaining until I helped him put into words what was truly in his heart. ( pedagast little maggot ).
  16. Can't believe that I missed this for over a week. ( grumble, grumble ) Magnetics obviously isn't something to be ignored when it becomes an influence from wire to wire. That's why printed circuits became the staple of the integrated circuit industry. 'Cross-talk' is the old-fashioned term for magnetic interferance across lines causing all signals to read the same via hysterysis ( sp? ). All digital signals = 1. I'm sure you were teasing me but I had to respond.
  17. Alright then. Goodbye to thanoptic2525 and may you die a painfull death by horny, syphalitic orcs. ( symbolically of course ). Jag-off!
  18. My internet computer is doing the exact same thing. It is a 6-7 year old P3 550 Mhz Compaq Presario. I bought another drive and stuck it in and the computer still doesn't recognize the drive. I replaced the IDE cable and well as put a USB adapter onto the drive and tried it as an external drive. No go. The motherboard no longer recognises that type of drive. As soon as I figure out a way to transfer all my e-mail, I'll be replacing the motherboard, processor, et cet.
  19. Wire length is a HUGE problem in general. As clock speeds keep increasing, one of the single largest problems chip designers have to face today is the amount of time it takes for a signal to travel from one end of a chip to another. It is very hard to do this in one cycle nowadays. Transistors are becoming smaller and faster, but wire delays are becoming increasingly dominant. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> There is also the problem of 'cross-talk' between the wires. As the frequency of a signal increases, so does it's likelihood to 'broadcast' it's signal to the next wire to it causing all the wires to read the same signal. I built a calculator in college that had this problem because I used wires instead of a printed circuit board. It was a better conversation piece than it was a calculator. Right now, the frequencies used are still in the radio frequency range. I'm looking forward to see what happens when they hit frequencies usually associated with light. The problem may go away because of insulation or they may become something else entirely.
  20. Your metabolism will ramp up with prolonged exercise. Im not sure what you do or how often and how long but normally aerobic activity in addition to strength training is best for your case. As you gain muscle and stamina your body will naturally require more fuel consumed at a faster rate thus causing your "metabolism" to remain high. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Something else you might do. Adding hot sauce or the like to your meals. The 'heat' of capsicum in many products increases your metabolism. You could try just sprinkling a small bit of cayanne pepper onto your food until you learn what your limit is. As you continue eating it, your taste buds will become less sensitive to it and you'll have to increase the amount to get the same metabolic boost. Start out small and we'll have you eating habanero peppers in a few months.

  22. Although I'm not into dogs or wolves, it doesn't look like a bad site ( in spite of the blatant huckstering ).
  23. Well that sucks. Since I don't like my parents, I'm not sure what to say further. Maybe grab a picture of your dad and go somewhere private and say the things that had been 'unsaid' for too long. If there is some sort of afterlife, he'll probably hear what you have to say.
  24. Good advice indeed considering he has so few days left to him.
  25. At 37, you are now officially older than dirt!
