What You See Is What You Get Loot System
archangel979 replied to Sensuki's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
ME2 had a worse inventory system than ME1. ME1 did look like a RPG (although simplified for consoles) but ME2 was more a FPS already. NOTHING should be taken as a good example from ME2 and ME3 for PoE. -
[364]Pathfinding Remains Horrible
archangel979 replied to Gairnulf's question in Backer Beta Bugs and Support
It's not, if you change the path search nodes to 40,000 He played BG1EE which already has it set at that. -
Or maybe we just want OE to remember their KS pitch. As was already said countless times, if they said in their KS pitch that PoE is going to be similar to NWN2 or DAO they would have gotten half the money they got or even less. Most people supported it because they used IE games in their Pitch! Of course now we want them to uphold what they said.

Gameplay ....
archangel979 replied to Joyoo's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
#1 It is beta. Game changes a lot during beta #2 Fallen Enchantress is not RPG but a fantasy 4x game. Same for Sorcerer King. #3 You pirated the game and are now complaining about it. Even worse, you pirated an earlier version of beta probably. #4 Goodbye pirate. -
[364]Pathfinding Remains Horrible
archangel979 replied to Gairnulf's question in Backer Beta Bugs and Support
A newbie to IE game recently told me pathfinding is worst thing about the game. OE, don't let PoE to be the same... -
That is nipsens fault. He pulled his funding and now they cannot pay their forum QA guy...

But they were, but not for every combat. Sleep, Color Spray, Chromatic Orb, Horror, Web were useful spells that could turn the tide of battle. I am just playing IWDEE on Heart of Fury difficulty but I started with a lvl 1 party and those low levels spells are saving my low level ass.
-
Well they slowed them down by giving them correct recovery time penalties based on their armor and player character did get an increased bonus from stats. I guess they need to buff humanoid enemies in other ways now.

Does anyone know of some video that only shows main story parts of DAI without all the filler (side quests, MMO combat and such)? I would like to watch the main story and find out what happens but don't care for the rest.
-
Wasn't the whole point of KSing PoE so people can get a game that supports a better system - the asymmetric one?
-
And that is a good way to make a game. Unlike you I got that XP and loot earlier and used it for the next 5 levels (and beyond). I also went home knowing I didn't need to run away like a baby from the big mean dragon

BG2 dragons went down fairly fast or your party went down fast. You could also disable them or kill them directly. The fight often took more time to prepare your team or prepare the dragon for a kill than just taking down his HP.

Interesting Companions
archangel979 replied to archangel979's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
If your barometer for interesting and memorable companions is Minsc, then you might want to play another game. Might I suggest the recently released Dragon Age: Inquisition? As stated before, Obsidian companions have plenty of memorable voice sets. Start up MoTB and bring up the order menu to check them all out. Minsc is very memorable and in his way he is also interesting. I also found Kreia and HK-47 interesting but in another way (conversations about life and morality with Kreia were good and HK-47 made me laugh in every conversation). I don't remember any MotB NPCs well enough to give my opinion on them which probably means they were not very interesting. I found multiple PST NPCs interesting (Morte, Dakkon, Fall from Grace). No, I don't want to play DAI. And not because of NPCs, I value good gameplay over other things and DAI does not have that. -

archangel979 replied to archangel979's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
That says ****ing nothing important about the poor person WHO GOT KILLED. It is never important, period. You barely need to know who did it to punish them and thats that. WAT? You dont actually expect anything from anyone do you? That would be very unwitting of you. So you ignored all I said and put things into my mouth. Talk to someone else please. I don't care to reply anymore to you. -
This from a review of Metacritic that gave the game a 5. It makes me sad. When I remember awesome Dragon fights in BG2 and ToB it makes me even more sad. Doesn't sound that different from the dragon fights in DA:O or DAII to me, though. My only experience with a dragon so far was it fireballing us all to death when we wandered into its area. I don't remember the fight vs Flemeth in DAO but vs Archdemon I spent lots of time running from Ballista to Ballista, running around with archer avoiding dragon attacks and trying to damage him as much as possible while using other 1 or 2 member to fight off waves of enemies coming all the time. It wasn't just standing there and HP grinding.

What? She murdered a snake squeezings salesman who ran away from a fight he could not win anyways. And of course it is important who did it when it is your most useful companion and one that scolds you when you **** up during combat or in non-combat situations. She does it from the position of authority and she loses some when she does what she does which is against Desert Ranger "code". Why do I care about second part or first part? I care because they travel with you and fight with you. Lying to you or suddenly doing dishonorable things is not what you expect from those that you share life and death with. -
Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition Announced
archangel979 replied to CoM_Solaufein's topic in Computer and Console
I decided to start with new 3 member party (Dwarven Defender, Druid (Avenger) and Swashbuckler 6 (then dual classed to Mage) ). I am playing on HoF difficulty but my party are lvl 1 I wonder how far I can get. I plan to enter expansion content ASAP so I can access higher level spell offered there. So far each fight is super hard and uses up all my spells. Only thing keeping me alive is the awesome Avenger (first with web spells and from lvl 7 with summons) and dwarven defender tanks all even with crappy equipment (splint mail lol). -

I don't have problems playing IWD multiple times. But I do prefer BG1&2 even when I would run with self made party. People are different. But if I run with companions I rather run with BG ones than NWN2 ones. Or a mix. I want loud and noticeable but also layered once you talk to them more. As for WL2, there are multiple interesting ones. SPOILERS NEXT: Angela Deth is all gritty except when it is connected with Ace. She even murders a guy that traveled with Ace and ran away once the Synth arrived. The "native" girl from Highpool is actually faking being native because she gets away with more that way. -
What You See Is What You Get Loot System
archangel979 replied to Sensuki's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Now that you mention Diablo, another aRPG called Grim Dawn has this WYSIWYG system. You can run into heroes with unique gear that has a chance to drop after you kill it. -
It is only a bonus until next time you rest. And bonus is small.

Name change to Blur would probably be best :D

What You See Is What You Get Loot System
archangel979 replied to Sensuki's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
It did for the part I played. I took Neera and new NPC in my group and they are OK. BG2EE is on my secondary weak computer and I only play it on that one when I cannot access my main one so the campaign is going very slow. But from that AMA, they seem almost sure they will get to do in future full D&D cRPGs. -
Why I like games like Pillars
archangel979 replied to Sheikh's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
There will be no romance in PoE.
