  1. Deja vu? Why I get a feeling all the stories come through slashdot first? <_< Anyway this doesn't mean anything yet, I don't see the relevance of thread title.
  2. "Rushed development cycle" doesn't sound too good to me. <_< I'd rather prefer a delayed but good game rather than a half-assed game on time.
  3. I never get viruses or adware, because I never download dodgy software or go to dodgy sites. I have antivirus, but it is silent for like 3 years.
  4. In the other news: <_< Now the Legalese Rootkit: Sony-BMG's EULA More on Sony: Dangerous Decloaking Patch, EULAs and Phoning Home Sony: You don
  5. Never heard of them. Then you've wasted many years of your life.
  6. Yes, I have one glued to the wall above my desk.
  7. It didn't hurt to add a little sense to this thread.
  8. I am inclined to think neither came first.
  9. Are you saying I'm inept? Anyway, it was the way it is due to a number of historical reasons. Study history. P. S. Russia never had "true" communism.
  10. Bioware, Black Isle, Square Rarely mentioned: Bullfrog (Populous 3 ) Logic Factory (Tone Rebellion )
  11. ^ I totally did not see that one coming. Well, theoretically nothing until the day of shipping can 100% confirm if a game is to be released. A tornado can ruin studio headquarters destroying all employees and work produced a month before it goes to production. "
  12. Isn't an issue. Words are either description of empirical phenomenon (eg, color), or a definition of something abstract (eg, fact), which is limited only by the way of reasoning of a human being. Going further, your interpretation is also based on human's way of reasoning, i.e. our brain. But we are going out of the scope already.
  13. From same site: So we are talikng about different things. The initial point of discussion was about theory of evolution. PS I am not creationist
  14. That is the issue of this thread. There cannot be differenct definitions of "fact", since fact is a fact, not a belief, not a theory, not a proposition. From the dictionary: What you are describing is not fact, but a view/opinion/belief.
  15. You can't "believe something to be a fact", but rather "believe something to be true". Fact is a mere empirical evidence. Science != fact. What you believe is what you believe, but a definition of "fact" is another beast. The argument was "Is evolution a fact?". The answer is "No" (as for any scientific theory).
  16. You refer to gravity as an empirical term (you feel it) and try to compare it to evolution which is abstract, so it is not appropriate. Evolution theory is a theory, it can't be observed, since it is abstract, not empirical. What you observe in nature supports theory of evolution, but doesn't prove it. No science have "proofs" aside from abstract disciplines as mathematics and computer science.
  17. A good example of an old school gamer with nostalgia. Actually games do get more complex. Be open-minded.
  18. Theory is not a fact by definition. It is never proven. Why? It is theory. Even in mathematics you have a number of base assumptions, that break things if assumptions are changed. Scientific theory is based on assumptions and empirical evidence (experiments). Assumpitons, obviously are made to reduce the problem in question from infinite set of problems and experiments never prove anything, but merely show that something may be true. Recall how newtonian physics was a "fact" before the beginning of XX century.
  19. Not exactly. Comapre old games with today games. Not only graphics, but all aspects of games are gaining more detail, features (this article will explain better than me), and more sophisticated toolsets (NWN), also genres are being combined (GTA). To really see the difference in changes to gameplay, pick up an early 1990's game and play it (I was shocked when replaying BG2 and Transport Tycoon). EDIT: As for dumbing down, it is old hardcore gamers that are compaining. Games are popularized and need a bigger market, hence the "adapting". As I read through the thread, I can see that the argument is more about definitions of certain genres, because everyone seem to have a different vision of it. I, for one, can argue that Deus Ex belongs to FPS to certain extent, but I put more emphasis in "first person", rather than "shooter" You seem to have a more "strict" classification. And sorry, if you found any part of my post offending.
  20. Damn the language filter. <_<
  21. Remote constrolled turtle? Pffffft. Here you go Remote-controlled ****roaches (2001)
  22. Compelling. Look at games 1 year ago. 3 years ago. 10 years ago. ... Now tell me they are the same. " EDIT: On topic. There is no single authority or "standards body" that makes precise point-by-point definition of what a certain genre compised of. Sorry, but you continue to argue for the sake of it.
  23. ...... zing? Anyway, what is the point of arguing the subtleries of game genres which will soon evolve and break current classification?
