  1. The funniest part in both articles is actually "using Windows Media Player".
  2. Well, I suppose, either all of them were within US borders, or you are just unlucky
  3. Actually I think KDE wins the consistency part with their tight integration of components (KParts).
  4. Why? They are nice.
  5. Actually being nice to a Brazilian government organization, if you missed that.
  6. I am a KDE fan, but I think I'll give Gnome another chance by installing Ubuntu on my shiny new box.
  7. Can HAL 9000 be considered villain?
  8. Ummm... "your site has been owned"?
  9. I admit, it was very tempting to do so. I'd delete the shell php file as well if I was doing that. But no, I just emailed website owners.
  10. I didn't? But Montevideo is indeed in Uruguay.
  11. I have a CyberShot too and it is good enough for an amateur, the only problem with Sony cameras is that they use MemoryStick exclusively, so it makes sense to get it if you have/are planning to get more Sony products.
  12. I think that Firefox is as buggy as IE, but it is not yet popular enough to become the primary target of malware. It is always nice to have NoScript and SiteAdvisor extensions installed... just in case.
  13. I think it is a perfect time to switch to Ubuntu.
  14. OK, I've got it wrong somewhere. Edit: the site has a Brazilian domain name and IP address is registered in Brazil, but IP address registry is in Uruguay. Good news: phishing site is down, but the shell is still there.
  15. Oh yes, we have got 16 hours timezone difference, so for me it was yesterday.
  16. That was yesterday.
  17. Hmmm, interesting. The site is in Brasil, Montevideo. It is a rooted linux server. If you go to .../icons/, directory index is available, and PHP Shell Offender is installed (php.cgi) so anyone can execute remote commands in the web shell. I think the owners of the server have to be notified that their server is owned.
  18. Actually, I am not sure how that follows from previous posts.
  19. I suppose it boils down to the type of articles you read there. I think it is pretty hard to distort the facts on the page about Intel processor architecture or number theory.
  20. Yes, but how many idiots are there that go and check their edits on a daily basis? It is people who care (and know something) about the subject usually do regular editing work. So, I feel, saying it is "less than useless" is not correct. At least I can assert that with with science and tech-related articles.
  21. Actually I thought exactly that. Moreover, the author seems to be whining a lot. As a result, the entropy of the article is extremely low. "Some Joe has deleted my edits on Wikipedia. Wikipedia is vandalised. Wikipedia is innacurate. Wikipedia is that. Wikipedia is this." So what? Why Wikipedia fails because of it?
  22. *Balthamael steps into the teleporter* beep beep fzzzzzt "Uhmm, Balthamael, we have transported you already, why are you still here? Must be something wrong with the desintegrator. Anyway you are already there, we have to desintegrate you." "Why?" "Well, your consciousness is already there, reconstructed on a sub-atomic level, so you are alive, no need to worry." "Ah, OK, that makes sense." fzzzzzt *Balthamael becomes a handful of dust on the floor*
  23. The idea of such a card isn't bad. It is price and marketing that I find disturbing. How much do you think a fancy heatsink contributes to the cost?
  24. Major operating systems can schedule different threads/processes on different cores, so you automatically get some advantage when working with multiple applications at the same time.
