With this holiday's game lineup...
Enoch replied to Sm1tty Sm1t's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
Am I the only one who doesn't care at all about the marketing stuff? I want the game to be good so that I can enjoy it. I suppose that I'd also like it to be a success so that Obsids can keep making games that are similarly attuned to my tastes, but I'd much rather get a good game that failed commercially than I would a boring game that was a commercial hit. -
I hadn't even noticed the, erm, acorns on the tree until you said that!

Hooray for total worship of female beauty! Just like Botticelli, but with kinky elf ears, wangfish, and labia tents! RPGMB's other favorite artist (Not work-safe.)
-
I'm sorry, but those portraits are terrible. Sure, there's some technical skill at play, but they are collectively beyond ridiculous in their ham-handed suggestiveness. (The open slit between the tentflaps; the catfish; the worship of the "tree" positioned at just the right angle... It all says nothing more than "I exist only for your sexual gratification!") I haven't played The Witcher (its reported grind-tasticness being the main turnoff), but if that stuff is any indication, Pop's hyperbolic description is looking pretty spot-on to me.

Was I misreading this line?

Doesn't pass a smell test. Among other things, the Lybians would have to be mind-blowingly stupid to hold out on increasing trade connections with the West (which would be of enormous economic benefit to their country) based on something so minor as the release of a single prisoner. And-- just speaking hypothetically here-- is it really all that bad if this was a quid pro quo? Surely the positive commercial impact of the deal overwhelmingly outweighs the punishment and deterrence interests associated with keeping Megrahi in prison. Yeah, you keep it quiet because some overly emotional relatives of the dead passengers would raise holy hell if they knew about it, but if you want to do your duty as a public servant and promote the overall best interests of your nation, you do that deal 10 times out of 10.

I loved that. Can't wait for more. Heh. The character I'm playing through Bloodlines with right now is named "Yancey." I like giving my character silly sounding names (full name: Yancey Cogwhistle), if just to picture the NPCs struggling to say it with a straight face. -
Probably for the PC version. Console versions tend to be about $10 higher, as you've got to account for the licensing fees to MS/Sony.
-
Oof. That's a good way for a marketing firm to lose one of its biggest accounts... Big companies like MS don't produce ad copy in-house. But they do occasionally take the blowback when one of the ads turns out to be embarrassing! (In fact, the blame probably lies with whatever little sub-department (or subcontractor) of the ad agency does the translation and localization.)

I don't see what's so wrong with sharing in this situation. When Dad finishes up, just wipe the GF off, and get your stuff in there while she's still hot. Actually, I bet if you're careful about how you set it up, the GF can take your dad's meat and your zucchini at the same time (unless they are unusually large). [/ ]

New blog post, talkin' bout stealth

What I don't get is why a big Splinter Cell fan who thinks that AP will be just like the existing Splinter Cell games is angry about this. Surely having new games coming out that are extremely similar to previous games that you really really liked is a good thing, no? (Note: This is not to be read as agreement with any of Psychonaught's assumptions.) -
General Ambrose Burnside-- a.k.a., the reason that they're called "sideburns."

Hmmm... Homicidal jailbait bodyguard chick who doesn't speak in any way the audience can understand... Anyone else thinking of Gogo from Kill Bill? -
The streak continues: Beatles -- Julia Lester Young -- Messy Bessie Bob Dylan -- It Takes a Lot to Laugh, It Take a Train to Cry

I actually bought a copy during the Steam sale this past weekend (all the various HL2 products for $13!), but I probably won't get around to actually downloading and playing it until I'm tired of Bloodlines. (My character is about to go to Chinatown for the first time, but my rate of play has slowed and my next 3 weekends are spoken for.) I'd have bought HL1 along with it, but a look at the screenshots made me realize that I am at least a little bit of a graphics whore. That early-3D-era stuff was truly awful looking. If and when I get around to playing it, I'll try to remember to necropost this thread with my impressions.

Springsteen -- Backstreets 'Shuffle all' is reading my mood rather well tonight.
-
The Hold Steady -- Citrus Hey citrus, hey liquor, I love it when you come together Hey whiskey, hey ginger, I come to you with rigid fingers... Goes well with the gin & tonic I just drank a little too quickly.

Glad to see that you're making progress on the test prep. Bear in mind, though, that there is a diminshing return to this sort of thing-- at some point, normalizing your sleep cycle and toning down the "loopy" factor is going to become more worthwhile than further time spent practicing the problems.

Utlimately, I can't argue that entering a crowded nightclub while carrying a loaded, unlicensed pistol, with a round in the chamber, with the safety off, secured only by the waistband of one's sweatpants isn't extremely reckless behavior that is deserving of criminal punishment. The severity with which such behavior is punished is up to the standards of the community in which it occurred. NYC takes its gun crimes very seriously, and their harsh treatment of such has been a contributing factor in the reduction in violent crime they've seen over the past few decades. Plax knew the seriousness of the law he was breaking (all NY area sports teams make sure to impress upon their players the consequences of taking guns into the city)-- he just thought that he was too important for it to apply to him.

I don't recall having heard this tidbit of info before. That's pretty cool. -
Alpha Protocol available for pre-order on Steam

I'm guessing that Space Seige was picked because it was also published by Sega. -

Well, the weak enemies and the x-ray vision thing are legitimate things to be concerned about, I think. Although the "weak enemies" bit is probably explained by demos usually being done in "easy" mode. But, yeah, if you're the type of gamer who seriously cares about "blood spatter effects," this probably isn't the kind of game you want to be playing. -
How useful is a "% complete" counter in an RPG, anyway? Isn't that more a metric for open-world GTA or Mario-esque games? Isn't one of the selling points of the high level of reactivity in the game supposed to be that your choices have consequences such that chosing one option forcloses you from pursuing the others?
