  1. I fail to see the "fun" in slaughtering the same baddies over and over again until you level up, at which point you just move to the next dungeon. At best, it's like a chat with mini games. And when you reach the top level... start over again. At any rate, there's no sense of accomplishment. Yes, that's probably the only element of a MMORPG that attracts my attention. But then again, I can do that in action games where my skills grow much faster than the levels of an RPG. The regulars of the RPG world, I don't really fight with, as they are probably top level too, and the risks are too high, unless I have a power build. And the new players offer no challenge at all, as their skill is irrelevant compared to the time they have spent on the server. No, sorry, but MMORPGs as they are conceived right now offer no real fun gaming when compared to other genres. Community or chat enjoyment, that's a whole different story.
  2. SUX. ) No, Volo, this isn't about you. Just my personal opinion on the show.
  3. Yeah man. I know I shouldn't have missed this game. But you know how it goes. When them damned females call you just can't say no... :"> Honestly, I don't know if I'll be able to attend any more of these late friday night sessions. I really wish I could assure I will be attending next friday's but right now I can't say for sure. While I love these RP sessions, I'm not sure I'm willing to cancel my RL plans to attend. Sorry.
  4. All that stuff is part of the engine. And I have a hard time believing they will use Odyssey for K3.
  5. "MOST IMPORTANT" element of a game? No. I'd say writing is the most important element of a game. I think the poll is not very well defined, however, and hence I'm not voting. What are we talking about here, technical quality or efficiency of use of available resources and good design? Doom 3 had an excellent graphics engine, from a technical standpoint. but I just didn't like what they did with it. And VtM-B didn't use any cutting-edge sound technologies that I know of, but the voice acting and soundtrack were truly outstanding. For me, graphics play an important role in immersion. Not technical quality, but level design, textures, etc. The same goes for sound. But for some reason I'm more willing to play a game with mediocre graphics and excellent voice acting than vice versa. However, writing is still what hooks me to a game or makes me want to come over here and rant about it.
  6. Well, Mus. You already play an MMORPG. Otherwise, what's your excuse to grind levels like that? ^_^
  7. The only MMORPG I might be persuaded to try must be set in the WoD. Wait. We're talking MMORPGs here. Never mind then.
  8. Well, that's nothing. Look what I got when I told Heather to change her appearance: You know, that look must be getting popular, because later on I decided to pay a visit to Vesuvius, and the dancers there seemed to favor it too: Customers dig it: ^_^
  9. Of course they do. They can always take over and make a retail version of it if their work is good enough. " It's real neat to have people doing your job for you for free, ain't it?
  10. You just can't pass up a chance to use those weird letters, can you?
  11. You need to play more Deus Ex.
  12. You didn't pay enough attention. Read the description of Arenis Xemdal, for instance. Or Istvaan's description of the infiltration procedure.
  13. This sounds cliche and all, but Read The Article. It says they were personally close.
  14. My plans for tonight just got cancelled. Guess I'll be there after all.
  15. It's not the same thing. In the example you propose, friendship (real life friendship) is not being establised as a selfish means to achieve an end. Again, I have no problem with betrayal, as long as it stays IC. I wouldn't be angry with my friend because I know that our friendship isn't something established just to lower my guard. Keep trying to make me believe that befriending someone with the sole purpose of betraying them in a game is perfectly fine. No matter how much you spin it, that's what it comes down to.
  16. Fair enough. But something like that is not very pleasant. Would you be happy about it? I know I wouldn't.
  17. Sorry folks but something just came up. I won't be able to attend tonight's session.
  18. Of course they don't condone it. They would probably get in legal trouble if they did. But the bottom line is that it's beyond their power to stop it. I don't need to. All the evidence I need is in the original post of this thread. It doesn't really matter if Mirial was emotionally devastated or not. Each person reacts differently to that sort of things. What matters is that that agent dude befriended her with the only purpose of betraying her later. You were right... until you began drawing conclusions from my statements. The problem is not who did it. The problem is that it may be (I don't know Mirial's or other big guild CEO's specific tacics) a common practice in that community. Hey, sure. If everyone does it, it must be right. Right. How many of those thought the infiltrated were their "friends" (in as much as a total stranger from the other side of the world can be your friend)? Oh, please! Don't give me a lecture about losing and winning. I have played my share of online games and I understand those basic concepts. A game that doesn't involve the risk of losing isn't a game. However, metagaming is cheating, as it gives you an advantage outside the planned game mechanics. And while it has been said that Mirial raided others and took their BPOs (whatever the hell those are), it doesn't really matter. I'd applaud the whole thing if all the manipulation and deceit had been carried out IC, but that's not the case.
  19. Enough? I don't see Mirial going "GG" in any of these quotes, so whatever. Read my posts next time before replying to them. It will save you a whole lot of embarassment. Also, only one of the quotes actually expresses admiration for the feat. If you went through the hassle of hand-picking quotes from a forum to back your stance, at least you could pick the ones that actually do that. The third quoted player apparently isn't very pissed about the whole affair, and he shouldn't be. He seems to view it as an in-game defeat, and for him it was. Not for Mirial, though.
  20. I honestly don't know what the hell are you talking about here. Again, you are trying to establish a direct link between the fact that Mirial doesn't attack the GHSC in that communique and the possibility that she isn't angry. That link exists only in your mind. You have failed to back that up. And at any rate, it's the intent that matters. So how about you make some sense for a change? It's about damn time. )
  21. Perhaps a different client would work?
  22. Let's see if I can simplify this enough for you. If not, I'm afraid I'll have to resort to sketching, and I'd rather not do that if I don't have to. I suspect you're just being purposefully obtuse so you don't have to admit that you are wrong, but I'm still going to grant you the benefit of doubt. The assets associated to an account and the account itself have zero value, as they are the property of CCP. However, the right to control those assets inside the game world is what has value, and what is sold on the Ebay. It may be argued that even that is under CCP's control but that is only theoretical, as they would not exercise such control arbitrarily lest they drive players away. Now, if such assets are destroyed and/or stolen, they are not under the control of the original players. Those players have effectively lost control over an in-game resource, and that control right in turn had real world value. Hence causing real world economic damage to the players that controlled said assets. Don't try to steer this into the direction that "any player looting is evil" because it's not the economic damage what matters, but the means through which that damage was caused. Burglary will get you jailed, while stockbroking will not. Irrelevant. You posted it as "proof" that Mirial's attitude towards the whole mess was "GG!". Which is not, and therefore the whole purpose of your post is defeated. Are you trying to add something to the debate or you are just posting randomly in an attempt to "win the thread" by getting the last post?
