  1. I'm assuming you mean 2013, and not travelling back in time I have 4 days left until my two week break. Friday will probably be odd.
  2. I'm not sure how legitimate this was, but I remember some fans were mad that it was supposed to be a wookie planet, instead of ewoks. That made some sense. But I always loved the ewoks myself.
  3. Hi, I have a degree in History with an emphasis in the US before the age of Industrialism. I'm always confused when people point to our past, where minorities literally had almost no rights, as some sort of golden age of freedom. We have a better quality of life and more opportunities to pursue happiness than ever before in this country right now. Can you be more specific about which right you have lost that you feel would cause the founding fathers to rebel? Because it kind of just sounds like rhetoric that radio jockeys spout to increase their ratings.
  4. I promise to engage any unlawful shooters bent on mayhem that I encounter as I go about my daily business with the express intent of making sure that they never harm another person in their soon-to-be short lives. So should we introduce firearm training to the teacher credentialing curriculum? A few of my students suggested that as well.
  5. The trouble I see with that is most of these mass murderers were not criminals before they committed these horrible acts. They have histories of mental issues, but no records.
  6. I know it sounds all macho to say the government can have your guns over your dead body, but it is ridiculous. Law enforcement can take you out whenever they want, they will always have a huge edge. The fact that they haven't is because you aren't a threat. If you want the country to change, you are better off doing it the old fashioned way, which means running for office and going door to door for votes. And don't worry, crazy people get elected all the time, so your odds are good.
  7. Hoplophobia. I'm quite certain that I am, indeed, using it correctly. No, you clearly aren't. The current reaction to guns is a direct consequence of a horrible event where children were shot to death. "May cause sweating, faintness, discomfort, rapid pulse, nausea, sleeplessness, nondescript fears, more, at mere thought of guns. Presence of working firearms may cause panic attack." Yeah, I've got none of those symptoms, I doubt anyone here does. Rather than calling names and getting aggressive, I'd like to hear some constructive ideas about how we can avoid future tragedies.
  8. I'm pretty positive you aren't using that word correctly.
  9. To be fair, shifting society and culture as a whole is much more gargantuan task than gun bans, parental awareness programs, and psychiatric care reforms.
  10. Thanks for posting that, JFSOCC. It always amazes me how often people ignore the human element in these types of issues. I got to play hockey last night in the HP Pavilion, which is where the San Jose Sharks play. It was pretty awesome, we had a crowd of about 40 people instead of the 17k they normally have, but it still was an amazing experience. I scored the game winner with a couple minutes left, so it was a nice competitive game too.
  11. I vote we just ignore Oby, as he is a simple troll and it is tasteless that he is even posting in this thread. I have mentioned reforming psychiatric care multiple times, and by that I mean NOT doing more of the same. I have major reservations about how we medicate our youth. In the field of education, I am far from alone in this.
  12. Since Columbine, bullying has been a huge focus in education.
  13. This is pretty much the way I play all MMO's. I guess it isn't the norm, but I don't think we are that uncommon either. I have a hard time understanding the end game content crowd, to be honest.
  14. I don't think I had to replay all that much to get to the extended ending. It was only a few minutes of gameplay, if I recall.
  15. Tsuga makes a good point about blaming the mother. Parenting is a major issue in today's society. But then you lost me on the whole military style semi-auto's and high capacity magazines. It sounded insane, honestly. I just don't understand what you possibly need those for?
  16. Are we talking Celsius or Fahrenheit?
  17. I see society as being way less competitive nowadays, to be honest. Everyone gets a trophy. I don't really agree with that aspect. Also I'm not sure what you studied about the 50's, 60's, and 70's, but they weren't glory days.
  18. There is some atrocious spelling and grammar in that pic, so I know it wasn't anyone on this forum. I kind of wish I had used a more general topic title when I created this thread, because I think discussing the media and psychiatric care are very important to the discussion as well. That being said, I still think a reasonable discussion about guns is necessary, and that pic is ridiculous.
  19. Because it's free? I think they should have lessened the restrictions a bunch, but still had people pay for the base game.
  20. I don't know if you're being sarcastic or for real here, but throwing us favorable reviews in our face doesn't help YOU at all. And if you're being sarcastic, shame on you for making fun of the few supporters you have left and someone so emotionally invested in your game. You need to chill. alanschu has been a member of this community for longer than he has been an employee at Bioware, and if he wants to share an odd and funny link it isn't your place to jump down his throat. You've been here for like a month, get a grip.
  21. I'd probably like to see the entire interview before I went out and proclaimed her a psychopath. It is clearly taken out of context. It's also not about Bin Laden, it is about Ghaddafi, who the US did not kill. So at worst she was making a tasteless comment on what happened, rather than reveling in some sort of victory.
  22. I think you guys are expecting too much science out of a space opera. Mass Effect and Star Wars are terrible at science. You can watch Star Trek and Stargate if you want a more logical universe. So yeah, space magic ftw.
  23. I hope you get some good rest and things start to look up for you, Nepenthe.
  24. Speaking of the media, I was absolutely disgusted that there were news outlets interviewing children at the scene. How the hell does that seem like a good idea under any circumstance?
  25. Ah, psychiatry is a subject I can speak to with a bit more authority, since I know very little about guns or even gun laws. Finding the individuals is not actually difficult, I see 180 students every year and I can pick out the few that are at risk for this type of breakdown, most teachers can. We tell the counselors, we recommend therapy, we meet with the parents. But this is a very treacherous ground. You can't just tell a person "your child is crazy." Parents have all the control here, they can say no to all the interventions that a school might want to implement. The system is flawed.
