  1. Keep in mind that world setting info is for our benefit, and just because we know that under the hood there is concept of souls, that everyone has as soul, and all powers steam from them, doesn't change one bit how people in the world see this. The vast majority of people be ignorant or rejecting those facts. I imagine that nist Fighter won't see them self as using "soul powers", but using damn abilities.. and can easily be superstitious of magic wielders like mages ..
  2. You previously mentioned that we use a point buy system during character creation, is this ^ just an example, or means that we will be able to adjust our ability score as low as 6 or as high as 18? So New Heomar is a Dyrwoodan port city, is it part of the domain of one of the ducs you mentioned before (Ethgowr,Ungradr,Gathbin,Manhem,Rafendr) or another one?
  3. Weapons minimum-maximum damage range? Is it a random roll that determines the weapon damage before all the modifiers applies (i.e. Damage type and Miss to Crit range) or upper/bottom bounds to possible damage output? What benefits(or disadvantages of its done to me) being Hobbled brings, and is there anyway to defend vs that effect or remove it?
  4. Necro.. FYI in the recent E3 previews we got details of the first two missions which include the starting location, the tutorial-esk part and the event and there are pretty thorough detailed account of both of you care to google.
  5. Not necessarily. When you are in a multi choice story moment and you choose say an athletics based response it might mean all characters in the party have to make an athletics check. It could also mean that is just how you the protagonist handle it and all other party members do something based on their own choices. We don't know enough to be sure, we certainly don't know enough to be positive when making skill checks the game just takes the highest skill from the whole party and applies it to everyone. It might and it could, or not. Which is why I am looking for more info to dispel that uncertainty. Speaking of which, did they got rid of the ridicules notion from a while back, that skill checks would only apply to the PC? I was thinking about Fallout skills and said that 'you'll be able to max all skills', the keyword being max. Because if you can max them all, why have them at all? that being said in the context of: Indeed, which is why I said that without those in game mechanics, those skills are mostly meangless. Hence my initial query about the in game mechanics associated with the skills that we are not familiar with ( Athletics and Lore ) http://pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com/Skills
  6. We haven't been pitched the 4E D&D skill list. So i won't be speculating on possible break down of that list, assuming that breaking it down was necessary at all. However, I am very much looking for new info on the in game mechanics that are tied to those skills (like with stealth sneak mechanics), because without it 5 skills in party of 6 means that we can always max every skill, making scripted interaction skill checks useless (you'll always have access to all the special options) and the choice what skill to level less meaningful then in previous IE games.
  7. To be fair to them, that "odd shoe-horning" is entirely my fault (i was in rush), don't forget they have attributes at their disposal as well, so slight of hand would be more likely to be paired with dexterity? As for athletics.. now that I think about it, I believe there was a swimming example.. EDIT: Here is a recent post e3 interview athletics/swimming example: http://pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com/File:Scripted-interaction-example1.jpg
  8. I'm sure there's more than 5. None of the e3 reviews touched on Stealth, or Crafting, or Alchemy, or Thievery (for example) but we know those are in the game, and anyone can easily picture the use of those skills both inside and outside scripted interactions. I wish it was true, some time ago I speculated that we might get as many as 8 skills. However, in those interviews pretty much stated that there are 5 skills, naming the five skills we know: Athletics, Lore, Mechanics, Stealth and Survival. We previously received info on the last 3, but as far as I know we got no specifics on the first two. Also Crafting isn't a skill, its a mechanic. There is no Thievery skill (I assume its Athletics slight of hand check) and no Alchemy skill either, we have recipes, although it has been said that a skill check might be need for special stuff(I assume its lore)
  9. I have no doubt that certain shops/quests will be bared by our disposition/reputation. So what you suggest can be easily implemented with racial multiplier in checks calculations for example: You need reputation > 60 to be able to ___ or > 80 if you are an elf, because I am elf hater.
  10. Just to state the obvious this is a fantasy setting, in a game focused on dungeon crawling adventurers, so accomplished people from generally real world history isn't the best comparison. However, I understand what you meant, it is the good ol' potential doesn't mean squat unless you work your ass off to do something with it. What I don't understand is what make you think its any different in PE world? So what if we know that in PE people has souls, and souls has varying characteristics? There is nothing I seen that suggest everyone with strong soul gains automatically access to soul powers, let along mastery over them e.g. Wizards aren't born being masters of occult lore, it is something they need to achieve. So as far as soul power discussed in this thread, I don't see where your issue lays.
  11. Cipher are people with the innate ability to manipulate other souls, Cipher can have scholarly pursuits such as the field of Animancy. While Animancer are just researchers, they can help us understand how things work, improve them or emulate them (think RL ~Geneticist and Roboticist) but while they may regard runners, warriors or any in our case Cipher("mind hunters") as field of study, those are completely different things. Animancer on its own isn't a useful class in dungeon crawling adventure .. EDIT: This Q&A with JS might clarify what Animancy is: There are some clocks and a very small number of early watches. Animancers tend to be mechanical inventors and tinkerers since so much of animancy is only possible through technology. Animancy itself is not so much a fusion of technology and magic as it is a field of study that uses machines to examine essence, i.e. soul energy.
  12. The E3 previews pretty much confirmed that there would be only 5 skills, scraping the original idea. Has anyone seen new details on the confirmed skills function (e.g. athletics and lore) inside or outside of Scripted interactions?
  13. Indeed there would be a lot of overlap, I initially assumed that Animancers would be the masters of "arcane"(soul magic) and wizards\priest\etc would be 'schools of magic'. However, one of JS post give me the impression that Animancers are plain simply researcher, anyone can be an Animancer (study the soul scientifically), even people with weakest souls who can't tap any soul magic, but you have to be able to tap that power to become wizards\druids\etc..
  14. Another interesting tid bit: "A mysterious purple wind appeared and sapped the souls of every member in the caravan". In the ruins "Hooded cultists chanted around an alter as the purple, soul-sapping mist swirled about outside" So it appears that the cultist map that we have been shown so long ago, is the second area and that machine might be connected or give them control of the Biamhac.
  15. In one of the interviews, I noticed it says that we are traveling with a small caravan from Dyrwood, a colonial area, to the free land, Gilded Vale. I wonder what it means ( I assumed it was part of Dyrwood), has any other new tidbit about the Gilded Vale?
  16. Cultists it is (although it is still a good bet that those are Glanfathans Cultists ), the article also add some interesting tidbits to where I left off before. ( I wonder if the presentation shown to the journalist was the same, because it feels like everyone seen a different part )
  17. Do you have a reference? because so far, I haven't seen any mention of Cultists concerning this encounter and it doesn't look like the same map as the one with the cultist with big soul(?) machine we seen long ago. Also I seen a mention of fighting tribal warriors, Glanfathans as being the enemy, and we are warned about local who are known to be overprotective of their ancient ruins, while sitting on the edge of the forest in such ruin.. I think its a good bet that they are Glanfathans. btw the entrance from update 79, is from the same map as the caravan camp site I posted.
  18. For those who don't mind the spoilers, or unintentionally spoiled it for themselves(as I did), here is the new tidbits plot spoilers summary. Please tell me if I missed or got anything wrong.
  19. General warning anyone who do not want to spoil the start of his game, do not read those interviews. Obsidian pretty much spilled the beans on the whole first encounter and there is a screenshot.
  20. Come to think of it, I can't recall any concept or ingame screenshot showing anyone wearing anything resembling the traditional Archmage Robes or any kind of distinct robes. Most magic users wore armor, and although in the teaser there were a couple of wizards wearing robes (in the outdoor combat scene), but since everyone had capes, cloaks, boots showing and weapons strapped in, it looked like a cloth coat. Overall I got a sense of the adventuring wizard type, which is nice, but I wish there were more distinct looking robes in a top down game.
  21. On a tangibly related topic to the EU, recent report by Freedom House, shows that Eastern Europe has suffered a sharp democratic decline in the last year. The report cover topic like the Civil Society, Corruption, Electoral Process, Judicial Framework etc
  22. PCworld had one of the two in depth interviews that I positively recall, I hope they follow with the same passion.
  23. Honestly, I don't think that the topic of sexuality(or racism) push the envelop anymore, especially in political correct AAA titles, more like the most expected, commonly overused and thus gag reflexes inducing topics, thus all the usual rage those topics encore and IMO the reason why we can't have related topic covered a mature way. I don't know why the witcher keep being brought up in this fashion on sex related topics (though I suspect that it is a long the line of this ), as far as I seen no one suggested that Witcher approached to topic of sex\romance\.. in a mature way (and if we are honest neither is any other IE game, with PoE going the same way, since the developers statement that they will be skipping any romantic overtures to the plot\companions) only that they didn't censored out sex and tried to approach in a thematic appropriate way. Because bottom line, in contest between M-mature content vs not too serious, little shocking or sometime immature sexually "explicit" content, the later wins for me every time. As long as it is not overused, the little chuckle or roll eyes at the "kids" worth it over bland alternative, even if anyone believes that they are too old for that s***, let the kids their fun
  24. It is going to be a loong two weeks until the next update, when should we expect to see the post e3 interviews arriving? Sensuki mention a press embargo date somewhere, but don't recall what it is
  25. ^ We know that certain weapons (Second set only?) will be worn on the back, and going by this screenshot from the trailer (top right) swords will be worn on the hip: So I don't know if we will have the option to sheathe weapons out-of-combat, but it is possible that main hand sword will be sheath automatically when outside of combat. At least i believe that it is something that is very easy todo.
