PE Spell FX Suggestion
Mor replied to Sensuki's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
couple of notes: 1. I believe that the PE buff in the Open Post, works exactly as planed, showing who is within its area of effect. 2. Setting aside the nostalgia googles, (Ignoring the semi-transparent and summoned models, fire shield and use item animation - all of which are pretty common\easy) the spell effects you see here are not that great ... 3. don't forget that we should have tooltips above the head. though it might not interfere with anything you want to put there. 4. I believe we have more status effects than in previous IE games, and considering the new rogue mechanics having some kind of visual cue when the creatures are impaired would be very important (but can also be done with model animation) EDIT: 5. since every class will have abilities(spells/auras/etc), expect far more uhm.. visual stimulation on the screen. -
@sorophx, I don't need to translate anything. There were few brief comments on this (both originating in Russian media outlets, so i'd wait for confirmation on this) the thing you seem to drop in translation is the difference between marking and colors. According to RT there were sighting of UN colored helicopter participating in Dotenzk and Ukraine confirmed that they got through(program?) such choppers which had Ukranian markings put instead - not color. (I guess they didn't have the means to do full pimp my ride on the spot, nor I am sure they are required ). I am not sure what the fuse, but at this point I support any pittance that can be offered Ukraine. I leave the guessing game to Breaking news on Putin daily (and subsequently to you). You know like all the tabloid crap that the majority of the initial reports produced by Russian media turned out to be... Many of who were to sway Russian public opinion (and posted here especially in the first thread during Crimean land grab).

That is exactly the problem that I have pointed out several thread ago, the idea that this is some kind of "west" vs Russia game, the friend-or-foe mentality cultivated by Russian media (long since before this crisis) which is particularly notable in many totalitarian countries in the region, with internal issues. I don't need a solution, I wouldn't have ended up in that situation in the first place. It's like demanding a solution for a broken motorbike problem where the motorbike has been deliberately disassembled, the solution is: don't break in the first place what you cannot fix. So you don't care for solution for Ukrainian crisis, because you decided that Ukrainian system is broken and the only way to fix it is trough Russian (how is it different from Brezhnev Doctrine). Which is why you arguments bottom line always revolve around legitimizing Russia violations\side and still ignore the full spectrum of the situation and parrot Putin daily message jumping from one headline to another to keep this afloat, and of course blaming the USA\west\UN\.. for the violence. p.s. Most of us think that Putin's Russia is broken... so ?

Ukraine crisis: Kiev talks open without rebels Ukraine's political and civic leaders have held a first round of talks to end the crisis in the country - but separatists were not represented. Correspondents said talks were heated although there was a consensus that Ukraine must remain a united state. The interim president said Kiev was prepared to listen to rebels, but said they must lay down their arms first. ...

@Drowsy Emperor, I fail to see where in this link is any hint of your claim that the UN helicopter were "use it to kill people"

The only amazing thing is that you speak, but hear oby, and that you still paddling those tiresome\retard deflection\accusations and out of context comparisons. No, I do not deem the legality of action based on my POV, as noted many times before all culprits should share its blame as part of solution, once we can deal with the immediate threat to stability. I can't say the same about you. You keep paddling the POV stuff, but I have yet to see you acknowledge that Euromadien and interim-government being anything but the convenient stereotypes I mentioned above, that most of the perceived threat\persecution to ethnic Russians was generated by Russian media, that are many other players and factors at play in this complex situation except the above stereotypes, including the big Russian bear in the room and its involvement or rather pattern of involvement over the last few years. I already explained you my bottom line and real world solution above. So answer me this, if you believed that Parliament majority vote to depose the absent president during time of national crisis was illegal, what exactly was your solution? appealing to the courts, UN, anything? because at the time I only recall you using this, as pretext to legitimize Russian actions in Crimea.. No, if you can recall I read it first time you posted it(two threads back?), noting to you that it was plausible. What I don't recall is your providing any proof that indeed the relevant clause as you claim. Surely you understand my skepticism, with your history, plus if any internet idiot could interpret the constitution, they wouldn't need the constitutional court presiding for years over little turn of phrase..

PE Staff Update
Mor replied to Sensuki's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
There are a lot of interesting "little bits of info" spread all over the place that were uncovered, disclosed or go unnoticed. (even here, I bet that most people who don't frequent the forums missed many of JS posts like the recent one about COA info) So I wish that there were more people like yourself that helped to bring it about and mantain it all in one place. Lore masters sort of speak. -
Update Content Suggestions
Mor replied to Sensuki's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I am mostly interested in lore. Any tidbit on the world, the surrounding areas, creatures, cultures, beliefs etc (that doesn't directly touching on the main plot or conflicts that we will be exploring) is a great update in my book. Other than that maybe some glimpse at UI of inventory, cyclopedia, character creation or level up abilities selection? little more info on skill\talents? Sound effects update can be nice? and if there is anything on modding support it can be nice, and I suspect make some people very happy. -

Mor replied to LadyCrimson's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
hey, I was cheering for you guys to find some example where something like this worked, after all there are some pretty hardcore gamers out here Sorry, but I think that that screenshot is little bit out of scale, just like this model from the recent art update: This is the in-game size that is far more likely that most of us will encounter: I am, going by this screenshot as point of reference, on screen model sizes: Do you think that anyone can draw a dragon\falcon\tree or anything but the most blunt color patterns on those armors, without obscuring their function? Which is why I speculated that cloaks are the only way to make it work, or maybe thin tabard's: -

I love to improvise and experiment, iirc last time we did anything with eggs in the kitchen involved a huge mess trying to boil them with its shell (I forgot how its called) but I HATE those nifty little gadgets that seem like a good idea at the time, but eventually only pile up and clutter our kitchen drawers. Nedless to say I am not going to support this, and curse on all of you out there who give retarded salad cutters (the only appliance that I was happy with someone gifting us was a damn good coffee maker)

There might be in game cut scenes IE style, but certainly not what of the sort you mentioned (also suppose to be more text heavy) As for interactions we know there will be scripted interaction and dialogues, but this all that we seen so far: The last iteration of Scripted Interactions that we seen: Character UI, which possibly give us a clue as to how the dialogue system will be framed:

@Zoraptor, again dancing on the convenient plausible, at least this one is better than your usual vague, ungrounded generalities. But, I specifically mentioned that 2004 constitutional (which gave Yanakovish extended powers), which took several years for the constitutional court to deem illegal. My bottom line was that it always Ukrinian internal matter (not a pretext for Russia make land grabs) More importantly, the president took a "leave of absence", during a national crisis that went out of control, and was deposed by the vast majority of all Ukrainian parliament, the speaker was named acting president in the transition period and early elections date was set. There were no changes to parliament. However, instead of deescalating the situation, restoring stability and public confidence by allowing Ukraine to deal with its issues and those who responsible for the event through the legal framework and electing a new government. The situation was escalated through fear mongering by a certain interested part, for its own gains strategic gains: Russia and its national state media, helped to destabilize the situation in Ukrainian, toward its own goals, by pushing a certain easy stereotypes: Svoboda, the smallest opposition party, from Yanakovish unchanged parliament, has been portrayed as the illegal/Nazi face of the interim government; Red sector, who no one heard off (or cared about) during the Euromaiden, are the thugs who were drawn to the violence during the riots(the police said to be using their own - titushky), the guys who now one are sympathetic toward them, has been portrayed as true face of the government, and an umbrella term for any act of violence that can be labeled as anti-Russian; last West/NATO has been portrayed as the puppet masters playing as part of information campaign, playing on the old cold war sentiments, which are still fresh in many ethnic Russians minds and groomed by Russian media. ; Much of the rumor, exaggeration and fabrication that were shoveled by Putin daily for all its worth, helped build those stereotypes and spread fear mongering, inciting the Pro-Russian verity of right-wing thugs, throwing the country from a riot in square in kiev, into the brink of civil war with Pro Russia armed militias who set up check points, round up journalists and blow up helicopters. (btw those thugs, they manged to organized really fast, into "spontaneous", "local", "self defense" groups, who in Crimea was using equipped by Russian hardware and manage to take operational control over Crimea better then most armies..., outside of Crimea, the strongest "spontaneous" acting is in region which are strategically important to Russia, not in other region where you might expect similar acts and at least in dotenzk seem to be well organized in their execution)

Armour & weapon designs (part V).
Mor replied to LadyCrimson's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
That exactly it, looking at any of the screenshots, I doubt that in any variant (except cloaks) we will see any details beyond some color smudges... Maybe the devs add some specific livery, but the ability to add your own as you suggested is something I'd be really surprised to see. For example ~here is how it was done in mount & blade. You could pick (and mod) them: but again its not a top down rpg and I am personally not familiar with any top down game with similar unit scale that done it to great effect. -
You claim that the vast majority vote to depose Yanukovych wasn't nearly vast enough, do you have anything to support your supposition that he was deposed based on this clauses, and for example not treated as incapacitated due to him fleeing the country during time of crisis? because parroting this doesn't make you a legal expert, this is job for Ukrainian constitutional court. -- The same court the decided that 2004 Constitution that give Yanukovych and his government extended powers was unconstitutional, and more recently that Crimea referendum was illegal. Meanwhile Ukraine is in turmoil, which benefits no one other then opportunistic Russia looking for land grabs, and the only constitutional solution has been layed out long ago - elections. --- As for what happened in Odessa, are you again making assumptions based on Russian national news headlines, which so far seem to be bent over on broadcasting pro-Russian narrative as fast as they can instead of waiting for facts. As always I prefer not speculate on what happened in unfortunate circumstances (especially when propagandist and opportunist are at play) only on what led to it and how we can solve it. From the videos I seen it was the camped out Pro-Russian far right activists, that armed themselves with clubs and marched toward pro-Ukrainians instigating this(I don't suppose you have any harsh words for them, no more than you have for the armed militias in the east). Btw if Odessa sounds familiar to anyone, its because you its yet another one of the gems Russia want to lay claims to(like Crimea) and not only due to its strategic value(see the PDF for details): Boredom is powerful enemy.. As for team oby, its a simple observation concerning group of people who follow the same Pro-Russia narrative and or angry individuals about the west, with tabloid quality crap and conspiracy links at the ready, while ignoring any and all background data as biased.

A newish "Fact Sheet" was released by US last month, that I just noticed, it was titled: Russian Fiction the Sequel: 10 More False Claims About Ukraine: “No amount of propaganda can make right something that the world knows is wrong.” – President Obama, March 26 Russia continues to spin a false and dangerous narrative to justify its illegal actions in Ukraine. The Russian propaganda machine continues to promote hate speech and incite violence by creating a false threat in Ukraine that does not exist. We would not be seeing the violence and sad events that we've witnessed this weekend without this relentless stream of disinformation and Russian provocateurs fostering unrest in eastern Ukraine. Here are 10 more false claims Russia is using to justify intervention in Ukraine, with the facts that these assertions ignore or distort. 1. Russia Claims: Russian agents are not active in Ukraine. Fact: The Ukrainian Government has arrested more than a dozen suspected Russian intelligence agents in recent weeks, many of whom were armed at the time of arrest. In the first week of April 2014, the Government of Ukraine had information that Russian GRU officers were providing individuals in Kharkiv and Donetsk with advice and instructions on conducting protests, capturing and holding government buildings, seizing weapons from the government buildings’ armories, and redeploying for other violent actions. On April 12, armed pro-Russian militants seized government buildings in a coordinated and professional operation conducted in six cities in eastern Ukraine. Many were outfitted in bullet-proof vests, camouflage uniforms with insignia removed, and carrying Russian-designed weapons like AK-74s and Dragunovs. These armed units, some wearing black and orange St. George’s ribbons associated with Russian Victory Day celebrations, raised Russian and separatist flags over seized buildings and have called for referendums on secession and union with Russia. These operations are strikingly similar to those used against Ukrainian facilities during Russia’s illegal military intervention in Crimea in late February and its subsequent occupation. 2. Russia Claims: Pro-Russia demonstrations are comprised exclusively of Ukrainian citizens acting of their own volition, like the Maidan movement in Kyiv. Fact: This is not the grassroots Ukrainian civic activism of the EuroMaidan movement, which grew from a handful of student protestors to hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians from all parts of the country and all walks of life. Russian internet sites openly are recruiting volunteers to travel from Russia to Ukraine and incite violence. There is evidence that many of these so-called “protesters” are paid for their participation in the violence and unrest. It is clear that these incidents are not spontaneous events, but rather part of a well-orchestrated Russian campaign of incitement, separatism, and sabotage of the Ukrainian state. Ukrainian authorities continue to arrest highly trained and well-equipped Russian provocateurs operating across the region. 3. Russia Claims: Separatist leaders in eastern Ukraine enjoy broad popular support. Fact: The recent demonstrations in eastern Ukraine are not organic and lack wide support in the region. A large majority of Donetsk residents (65.7 percent) want to live in a united Ukraine and reject unification with Russia, according to public opinion polls conducted at the end of March by the Donetsk-based Institute of Social Research and Policy Analysis. Pro-Russian demonstrations in eastern Ukraine have been modest in size, especially compared with Maidan protests in these same cities in December, and they have gotten smaller as time has progressed. 4. Russia Claims: The situation in eastern Ukraine risks spiraling into civil war. Fact: What is going on in eastern Ukraine would not be happening without Russian disinformation and provocateurs fostering unrest. It would not be happening if a large Russian military force were not massed on the border, destabilizing the situation through their overtly threatening presence. There simply have not been large-scale protests in the region. A small number of separatists have seized several government buildings in eastern cities like Donetsk, Luhansk, and Slovyansk, but they have failed to attract any significant popular support. Ukrainian authorities have shown remarkable restraint in their efforts to resolve the situation and only acted when provoked by armed militants and public safety was put at risk. Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) observers have reported that these incidents are very localized. 5. Russia Claims: Ukrainians in Donetsk rejected the illegitimate authorities in Kyiv and established the independent “People’s Republic of Donetsk.” Fact: A broad and representative collection of civil society and non-governmental organizations in Donetsk categorically rejected the declaration of a “People’s Republic of Donetsk” by the small number of separatists occupying the regional administration building. These same organizations confirmed their support for the interim government and for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. 6. Russia Claims: Russia ordered a “partial drawdown” of troops from the Ukrainian border. Fact: No evidence shows significant movement of Russian forces away from the Ukrainian border. One battalion is not enough. An estimated 35,000-40,000 Russian troops remain massed along the border, in addition to approximately 25,000 troops currently in Crimea. 7. Russia Claims: Ethnic Russians in Ukraine are under threat. Fact: There are no credible reports of ethnic Russians facing threats in Ukraine. An International Republican Institute poll released April 5 found that 74 percent of the Russian-speaking population in the eastern and southern regions of Ukraine said they “were not under pressure or threat because of their language.” Meanwhile, in Crimea, the OSCE has raised urgent concerns for the safety of minority populations, especially ethnic Ukrainians, Crimean Tatars, and others. Sadly, the ethnic Russians most at risk are those who live in Russia and who oppose the authoritarian Putin regime. These Russians are harassed constantly and face years of imprisonment for speaking out against Putin’s regular abuses of power. 8. Russia Claims: Ukraine’s new government is led by radical nationalists and fascists. Fact: The Ukrainian parliament (Rada) did not change in February. It is the same Rada that was elected by all Ukrainians, comprising all of the parties that existed prior to February’s events, including former president Yanukovych’s Party of Regions. The new government, approved by an overwhelming majority in the parliament -- including many members of Yanukovych’s former party -- is committed to protecting the rights of all Ukrainians, including those in Crimea. 9. Russia Claims: Ethnic minorities face persecution in Ukraine from the “fascist” government in Kyiv. Fact: Leaders of Ukraine’s Jewish as well as German, Czech, and Hungarian communities have all publicly expressed their sense of safety under the new authorities in Kyiv. Moreover, many minority groups expressed fear of persecution in Russian-occupied Crimea, a concern OSCE observers in Ukraine have substantiated. 10. Russia Claims: Russia is not using energy and trade as weapons against Ukraine. Fact: Following Russia’s illegal annexation and occupation of Crimea, Russia raised the price Ukraine pays for natural gas by 80 percent in the past two weeks. In addition, it is seeking more than $11 billion in back payments following its abrogation of the 2010 Kharkiv accords. Russia’s moves threaten to increase severely the economic pain faced by Ukrainian citizens and businesses. Additionally, Russia continues to restrict Ukrainian exports to Russia, which constitute a significant portion of Ukraine’s export economy.

Update 78 Pushed Until 5/14

Thanks for letting us know in advance. -
JS said they have a single resolution system for all attacks, I assume that is true of all actions as well and that abilities, melee\ranged attacks, spells, item use etc will all be treated the same and have action time(animation time) and recovery time, and can be interrupted. What you suggest is plausible(animation time 0 ?), but its likely be very unique/limited abilities not common use ones. Btw what about difficulty settings, i remember that in nwn effect time of status effects was changed, will this something like that be in place here? e.g. different attacks speed for v.easy and v.hard would mean a big difference in hit count and interrupt chance. probably because all their action/attack animations are for stationary characters, like in IE games. It was said somewhere that engagement is about area control. which fits well with how I see it, this way you can tactically position your characters or engage with them, to protect your weaker units in the back from enemy skirmishers, instead of silly chase\hack scene on repeat.
-
But you can have an impartial rushed referendum in Crimea, with "local" armed men (outfitted from Russia armed force barracks), are presiding over the process and "debate" (escorting those who are not with program out). While taking control over the region strategic locations and limiting lines of communications with the outside. While the public are fed with blunt propaganda, and "spontaneous" themed protest organized for good optics for the news and international observers are either intimidated by spontaneous crowds or outright turned away. * Kiev Junta is just one of the term circulating on Putin daily, trying to legitimize its own plans to take by force more prime Ukrninian real estate. * "now seeks elections"- the elections has been sought from the the start, hence the interim part in the interim-government. * Yanukovych wasn't deposed by "them", but by majority of all Ukrainian parliament including members of his own party. Some people are certainly trying to make it into one.
-
They aren't boasting of anything, they are the interim-government until next all Ukrainian election, in a move that was supported by the majority of the all Ukranian parliament(unchanged), and internationally supported as transition body until the upcoming elections.
-
I wonder why most of your post here are about changing the topic and or pondering about people alts.. Most of us here range between a remote cursory/interest in world events and nationalistic favor trolling, probably with unhealthy pinch of boredom and apparently a certain liking to sadomasochism, where you fit? Also I don't about alt's, but you can find plenty drones in team "oby"
-
@Valorian, Which is why I said that it will be triggered the moment the "rouge will catch up to the target and stop". I assume that for an attack(action\animation) to commence the character will have to stop movement, which will happen automatically i.e. once ordered to attack, your character move until he is in his melee range, then stop(invoking engagement, causing the other character to stop) and attack (not chase after the target swinging or wait for you to hit the "stop" button to enter engagement).
-
This will put into disadvantage fighters (who have an increased engagement limit and likely to hold more than one target), while offer expand micro-management opportunity on an anal level for those willing to shave couple of seconds on attacks :/ I'd rather have the current less realistic variant. I'll give an example. We don't have to call it kiting. You use one character to lure a creature and with another you go stab it in the back with a melee weapon. AI, being silly as AIs usually are, keeps chasing the other character while being stabbed in the back repeatedly. This cheap tactic would be harder to execute if moving stops your recovery timer. It would be further difficult to execute due to engagement. The moment the rouge will catch up to the target and stop, they both stop and engaged. At which point the target will most certainly recheck its AI routine and far more likely to start targeting the rouge (who is also likely to be a softer target), if the rouge want to keep playing cat and mice he will have to use his abilities to break engagement and run away.. btw, engagement will also allow you to "tackle" enemy attackers going for your rare units.
