Star Wars should have been the cream of the crop bi-annual series to counter balance the annual grind that is Marvel. It astounds me there are enough people in the film industry to put out as many pictures of this caliber as they do. Especially with heavy sfx work, practical and digital. Solo's marketing was very underwhelming, I'm not surprised it reviewed as bad as it did honestly, almost none of it's jokes land. Probably the worst tonal imbalance of any star wars film. At least AotC/RotS knew it was trying to be Shakespearean.

I'm somewhat of an agnostic/anti-theist but If I'm being honest with myself I can understand the thrust of theistic thinking. Perhaps it's my upbringing in a faith, but the pragmatists have their point, knowing the absolute truth is impossible. Our best efforts rely on tons of empirical work and formalization, but on an average day you rely on your own self-developed heuristics. Even if imperfect approximations. Having a salient narrative that guides you through the social realm of humanity, that guides you through the stages of a successful human life. Something that you don't have to entirely construct from scratch from yourself. Something that is broader than just the best advice of one's parents. That's valuable, and religion solidified such guidance early in human civilization. Plus it qualms fears of death and loss. However it's a dogma of antiquity and just doesn't deliver the same returns that it once could. I think studying all faiths in a sort of nominal secular way allows you to reclaim the perspective and best values, while not taking everything as literal truth or even as parables whose message is true. Instead religions should be treated like anything else that can be learned from, and as always there is due diligence in learning the right lessons. Some people of faith really do deserve the harshest scorn, for outside of humility before their lord, they lack all humility and due diligence with regards to their fellow human beings. Writing off everyone of faith just makes you look like you have a chip on your shoulder and don't really have any sense as to what a more sensible secular humanist world would look like. Organized religion however... that's really where all my scorn comes out.

Aren't there different kinds of asbestos though? Some you can pull apart with your hands like cotton candy and it's fibers immediately go airborne.
-
I think you meant to post that in the Cinema thread, If you do, I'll give you my thoughts on it's flop.
-
Is it ever in good condition? Once you mine it it's already gone all **** up. I know Russia's been pushing the asbestos is safe propaganda for a long time because they sell that **** to India... which is causing a lot of problems in India but India's construction sector is pretty corrupt and is under expectations to meet housing needs.

RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS - VISUAL NOVELS ALLOWED

I guess investing in companies is different than investing in rare collectibles. The D.A.R.E. scares are the most relatable part of that list for me given my age during the 90s. Some of those short films are still burned into the back of my skull. I think it instilled in me a keen sense to detect a "right message for the wrong reasons" and made me care more about getting the facts straight and care less about conclusions. It was all sort of worthless because the only drug I've ever been offered was weed and lsd. Probably the safest out there.

The Weird, Random or Interesting Things That Fit Nowhere Else Thread

I was telling my folks I thought this was the case, and jokingly demonstrated casually talking about needing some product that I didn't really need. Sure enough google's ad's started recommending me the very thing. -
"You could retire early if you invested in comic books" In a way... this is true. Just got to invest in Marvel baby!

I guess Agony could just be a bad game, but It feels like it's getting trashed for what it depicts. People loved Diablo, the Souls games, and all sorts of other ****ed up games. This game seems like Amnesia in the pits of hell. Is this simply a case of it being okay of showing men suffering eternal torture and not the female form? That is the gist I'm getting, but I don't really know what the cut content is. -

Is it time to post only the best of the best? Behold the true greatness that was the late 90s

They revealed last year that the "BG&E2" isn't actually sequel at all, but prequel and all information that has been released so far of it points out that it will follow Ubisoft's open world model but even more increased focus on multiplayer/shared play aspects that have appeared in their other tittles like Watch Dogs, Assassin's Creed and Far Cry. I think my impression of it will ultimately be based on how well crafted of a campaign they can craft that isn't based on an overly simplistic set of interacting emergent gameplay. I want bespoke content and rich gameplay systems. With it being multiplayer focuses though, I think they are going for a simple gameplay loop that relies on other players to flesh out game scenarios. I'm also starting to think the whole ship dimension of this game will have diminishing returns...

I'll see it just because I was raised to be audience chattel for this sort of film, ultimately I feel they've chosen the wrong path thematically. Weaponized dinosaurs is the ultimate wankery, I want it to be man vs nature. Not man befriends nature against nature shaped to man. Which is ultimately just man vs man. They could explore so much more of prehistoric life, but it's got to be the flightless dragons get genetically modified... Like I said, I'll be seeing it.

whoa https://imgur.com/ZQnobLq steamed hams, but the ham is an egg -
I enjoyed it, the source material seems fascinating. I want to read that series. Artistically it's stunning. I think the film was really a drama thriller all the way through, and what seemed like a horror intense moment was just the film iterating on all the sorts of things the shimmer can produce. The beautiful and the horrific. The ending I think was most spectacular in terms of sound design, and really the whole movie. As far as sort of semi-ambiguous endings I really like it. I don't mean the final frame, more the events of the final act. I was fine with those being ill-defined and rather alien. The final frame I think actually ties everything together if you interpret right, and isn't all that ambiguous. Although it was sort of a cliched visual to represent the notion which could have been done in a better way.

RDR2 is my most anticipated game, but I can wait it out. Pre-order only content feels so antiquated, didn't they learn last gen to include that sort of content in every new title to discourage used sales? Well, now they are encouraging used sales. Congratulations Rockstar. -

When companies pull **** like that, I just wait out the title dropping it's price or buy used. I'm not buying full priced day 2 only to loose out on value. I guess it works because most consumer's are highly ill-informed. -
Spiritual New Vegas Sequel Set in Fargo's Wasteland
injurai replied to Vargr's topic in Obsidian General
I think the a post-apoc games need to cool off a bit. If Obsidian's next project is in any way post-apoc wasteland I will be disappointed. Reboot of civilization? Maybe I could get into that. -

It being better than TLJ was all I needed to read. To consider going? To dismiss my taste in film? Usually I add a few grains of salt to everything I read.

I bet Borderlands 3 got delayed to add in battle royale pvp
-
I actually don't think Sawyer will lead Pillars 3. It would be a good project to hand off to someone new, which would keep things fresh by getting new ideas in the mix. I'm sure he'd write Pallegina and maybe do some other related work.
