Devil of Caroc Question

I don't doubt that, through upgrades, plate-like DR would eventually be available. -
Can we get sales numbers?
Katarack21 replied to Labadal's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Yes, I remember hearing that as well, but I believe it was late in the development cycle when most of the expensive, time-consuming assets had already been developed. -
I don't see why they'd own any of the art assets created by Obsidian as part of their work on the engine and game; those should all remain Obsidian's property. Also, you got that wrong. Obsidian made a demo to show to Matt and Trey, to convince them that Obsidian was the company for the job. Specifically of Stan's house, including Randy playing Guitar Hero in his underwear. Matt and Trey were blown away, and the rest is history.

Can we get sales numbers?
Katarack21 replied to Labadal's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
(then one user told me Obsidian had to spend some of their money) (3 copies is very high, maybe too high, considering only very expensive tiers got more than 2 copies, but that was meant to show the worst case scenario in this regard) The only problem with my analysis is that it was based on 460k copies, but now SteamSpy says it's closer to 448k. You want actual sales numbers, though, so let's see: The $110 tier got two copies of the game, so I'll assume that's the first one and the ones above had 2 or more. That's 7432 copies up to the $750. $1000 and above got more than 2, adding up to 812 extra copies including all of them. This adds up to 8244 extra copies on top of the ~77k backers. If we assume the highest percentage on GOG (15%, much like The Witcher 2's ~16%), that's 7007 copies on Steam. 447,894 - 72,457 = roughly 375,437 new copies sold on Steam. If we assume the same percentage but with players decided to purchase the game on GOG, that's 441,690 copies sold overall. You're a little bit off there; I got a copy of the game and a copy of the expansion, together, for about $55. That would be two at $110, but I'm not sure if the split makes any difference in the calculations. -

I hope you can eventually learn how to create your own ****ing thread instead of ordering other peoples thread into the discussion that *you* want to see. -
New playable race
Katarack21 replied to ChaosMaker90's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Eating people is "evil" if you're human. If you are a lion who is starving, eating people is just a natural production of the survival drive and predatory instinct, and can't be considered "evil" because a lion is incapable of any sense of moral judgement. Sea otters will rape baby harp seals to death underwater then keep the bloating corpse around to **** with for days. Is this evil? Can a sea otter be a serial rapist? -
New playable race
Katarack21 replied to ChaosMaker90's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
At least until they can't take the jokes. "Hey, Skinless Chuck! How's your skin doing?" I'd eat people if I had to deal with that all the time. "Man, you are hard to look at. Makes my skin crawl." -
New playable race
Katarack21 replied to ChaosMaker90's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
There are incorporeal undead--souls that attack people, basically. Undead are treated as vessels--really no different from an animated suit of armor. It makes sense--both are souls piloting something, both can be sentient, and both are not always evil. There is a form of undead that involves a normal vampire undergoing a ritual that flays all the skinn off--it's incredibly painful, but the result is an intelligent sentient undead that has no need or desire to eat people. -
New playable race
Katarack21 replied to ChaosMaker90's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Races are not evil. Races cannot be evil or good. Individuals can be. Either of them. Cultures and upbringing can tend in a certain direction which may be perceived as either one. But races are not. P.S. Oh, pleeeeaaase no Drow. Races cannot be Evil ? So Demons not Evil ? Undead are not Evil ? Evil worms from undergraoud distroing everything are not evil ? :D Besides, Drows were not evil in general, but their society were.... There were good Drows like Drizzt, but most peaple in D&D have opinion about them from looking at their society... or at least the more visible aspects of it... I'm not sure there *are* Demons or Devils in PoE; there doesn't appear to be any sort of planar set up with any kind of travel between them. Undead are just corpses with souls shoved inside and basically piloting the body like a meat mecha. Worms destroying everything are just animals looking for territory and food. -
Boots of evasion: Is that a joke?
Katarack21 replied to MathieuG89's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Good point lad, somehow it didn't even come close to my mind that most people played Pillars of Eternity with a bunch of other characters. I've always played theses games (Baldur's Gates, Icewind Dales etc..) as a single player character. I can't manage a party and I find it terribly tedious and boring. But what you said makes a lot sense, theses items can be equiped on different companions wherea they suppress each others on a solo character. Still, +2 Reflex is terrible... they could've made it +5 Reflex at least. Later on in the game you do find things like that. These boots--and a handful of other cloaks, gloves, etc.--are meant as lowbie equipment for the early game, or as vendor fodder later in the game. They're never meant to be impressive or to make a huge difference, but just to provide an edge at the early point when +2 reflex actually helps against a Weak Dart Trap or something. -

Boots of evasion: Is that a joke?
Katarack21 replied to MathieuG89's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
At the beginning of the game you get a Minor Cloak of Protection which gives +5 Fortitude, +5 Reflex, +5 Will, you also get Fulvano's Glove which gives +5 Reflex and finally quite early on you can also get Fulvano's Boots which gives +1 Constitution. How many of those cloaks do you get, exactly, again? This game wasn't really designed for soloing, you know. -

Katarack21 replied to MathieuG89's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I'd wear that. Near the beginning of the game, when foot items aren't exactly dropping from the trees. It's clearly not meant to be amazing. It's worth pointing out that D&D 3.5 has Boots of Reflex +1. They showed up in NWN. -
So, White march 1 to ... 3?
Katarack21 replied to Andvare's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Yeah, but it's one expansion. It really is--like how Lord of the Rings is *literally* one book, but the publishers split it up because it's just to damn big. -

You see, that's why I'm upset. Durance and Grieving Mother aren't the *only* things I liked about PoE, but they are two of my favorite things. Grieving Mother more than Durance--I find her entire story beautiful and disturbing, and the character ultimately sympathetic and terrifying. In my head, I have this whole story worked out about Chris Avellone and Josh Sawyer and their epic battles for control over the general atmosphere and aesthetic of Pillars of Eternity, and how it came out a blend between the two of them and amazing because of it but the tension tore their friendship apart. But I'm a paranoid schizophrenic who likes to make **** up. In the real world, we have no idea what happened. I know his job title was "narrative designer" and I know he co-founded the company and recently left. I know the list of games he's worked on in the past. I believe I know about as much as any member of the general public does right now, and that ain't much. -
Stronghold problems/questions
Katarack21 replied to crine's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Yes, yes they do. like I said, when not using them they gain a small amount of XP--because the adventure system is meant to create the full XP parity with a character used in a party. If you don't put them into adventures and don't have them in your party, they will gain only a small amount of experience over time. -
But better than actually keeping the companion around. So... win-win. Given how crap the companions are, sacrificing a tavern-generated companion would actually be a real sacrifice in comparison. What? That doesn't make any sense. Why would you give two ****s about a tavern companion? They don't have any dialog or story. They're completely interchangeable and entirely meaningless. It's just a gold cost, really. Named companions are each unique and and entirely irreplaceable. When they die it actually makes a difference.

Stronghold problems/questions
Katarack21 replied to crine's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Pretty much the purpose of the "adventures" is to give your unused party members a means to earn items, gold, experience, etc. They earn a small portion of experience when you aren't using them, but really the adventure system is meant to be granting full XP parity, I think. -

Stronghold turns are related to quests--a turn ends when you turn in a quest. I agree it's not made clear and is somewhat confusing.
