Baby on Board
Aramintai replied to ThatUndeadLegacy's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Really? Rescuing her from those backward savages is probably the least evil thing you can do in the quest! Really? With the evil dude dead she could have been a chieftain of those backward savages without any worries. Instead she got kidnapped by some crazy adventurer with no permanent home and probably no skills in baby raising whatsoever. It's all looking very shady to me, but now I guess even every paladin and "Goody Two-shoes" will go and kidnap that poor baby just to have extra content in the sequel. -
Thaos doesn't look like a good protagonist. If anything, he's very inflexible - he's a devout servant of Woedica with his body, soul and memories unchanging throughout all his lives. And all his lives are devoted to do her bidding unwavered. Personally, I'd have preferred if PC had Iovara's soul instead of some random insignificant inquisitor or Thaos. That way Thaos could have been a much more personal and bitter enemy, like Irenicus, for example. Iovara and inquisitor both share a grand secret, but hers was a much grander tale. To have her soul would have been way more cooler.

Those guys weren't her family (not to mention they were elves and she's an orlan). She was given/adopted into their tribe from another tribe. -

Oh man, i've not seen this portrait. Was kinda hoping to not have it spoiled. Eh, she's too adorable for me to get mad at. She also has a watercolor portrait, meaning she'll have some banter. It's cute and all, but I wonder exactly just how much banter she'll have. Will she have her own quest? And just how much content will those players who left some random baby alone in POE1 will lose? If it will be significant then it feels kinda unfair. -
I've played POE on PS4, it had a modified interface which was not half-bad. Still, it was not as comfortable to play with a gamepad as with a keyboard&mouse - elaborate micromanaging was a pain. Same problem was with Divinity: Original Sin - just goes to show that some games, specifically designed for PC, are not very good port candidates. Though the only thing in console version that was dumbed down was enemies AI, I think. Iirc, devs said somewhere they made enemies more aggressive there (less prone to use abilities?). Also, there were no hardcore trophies like Triple Crown Solo (and thank god for that, it would have been a gigantic pain to platinum otherwise). I think to make POE2 more successful on consoles those devs who will port it will need to work much harder on remaking the interface. I'm talking "Diablo 3" harder - the only real-time RPG PC game I can recall that was ported really well.

That one is weird indeed. But I'm more curious about the demon creature, I saw some demon portraits in beta files as well. Wonder what those are. A new race of creatures? It's probably an imp, we've seen some in the short videos they've released, haven't we? What are imps then? https://twitter.com/WorldofEternity/status/953749003010637824 Ok, new creatures then. Judging from the portraits files you can have one on the ship.

I don't know. I've a license. -
Well, it's obvious that maining a dwarf isn't a popular choice in most rpgs (unless it's a game where you can only play as a dwarf). If devs love dwarves so much they could have shown us how cool they can be by putting more dwarves companions into the game. But no, we only got boring Sagani and a sidekick without any quests.

Mysterious Rekke's tribesman? I wonder where those Asian looking people actually live in Eora. The Living Lands? Beyond the impassable eastern ocean? -

Hmm, well maybe there is your problem. I use good old Photoshop and Poster Edges filter. -

I see what you mean. You can make (duplicate) another layer before applying the filter. That way after applying the filter you can deliberately erase some "noise" with good old eraser and those parts will look unmodified by the filter. Will end up looking something like this: Also, what filter is that? Doesn't look like Poster Edges to me. Or too much Edge Intensity? -

For your custom main character portrait you just add it, for existing portraits, such as companions or hirelings, you replace them. -

Well, this open folder system for custom portraits has always been available ever since the old times of Baldur's Gate. POE series just restarted the tradition. You can easily insert your own portrait, change companions or hirelings portraits to whatever you want. You can read this as to how to insert your main character's custom portrait: https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/94345-portraits-folder-for-custom-player-portraits/ Companions and hirelings portraits follow similar steps, but companions portraits are located in another folder and both companions and hirelings require your custom portrait to be renamed exactly the same as the original you want to change. -

Think of it like this: You firmly believe in a cause. You devote all of your life to it, fight for it with all your might. Even at your final hour, when your bones are being shattered at the wheel, you'd stay true to your ideals and spit in the face of those who would dampen them, rather than end your pain with but a single moment of hypocrisy. And then somebody just barges right into your prison and is like "hey, did it occur to you that if you do this one thing that completely opposes everything you ever believed in and fought for your entire life, you can be sort of free?" ...yeah. That's Iovara's perspective the way I see it. Also, she begs you not to do it. Doing it anyway seems evil enough to me. That's all understandable, but still stupid. She could've had another chance to fight by going through the wheel if she Awakened later. But being against it she just looked like she admitted defeat, like she just wanted to stay a powerless sore in the eye of the gods. It's a shame there is no option like that to convince her to continue the fight, to promise to find and Awaken her later.

She couldn't leave the island herself, true, but someone could go down there and talk to her. Which is exactly what happened in the end. And since we descended into the pit with the help of the gods themselves (surely they remembered that Iovara was still down there and able to talk?) they probably weren't all that worried about her potentially spreading the truth. At least not as much as they were about Woedica gaining power. Her punishment looks more like Thaos' personal vendetta to me, the gods really don't seem to care much. And I doubt they would care about her soul getting destroyed either. To me it looked like that Burial island was Woedica's domain. Perhaps other gods didn't even know Iovara was imprisoned there. But more likely they were indeed more worried about Woedica's imminent restoration, so they lent the Watcher their help going there. Makes me wonder, if Woedica was deposed a long time ago why wait so long to restore her? Not enough people living in the vicinity of the machines? Also, I think it's obvious there is no consensus among the gods about anything and they're not infallible. Some gods want to eradicate other gods, other gods want all the power to themselves. Some gods wanted to erase all trace of Engwithans who knew their secrets from the face of Eora, while others were against it. And while they squabble and plot, reluctant/unable to act directly against each other, such mishaps as Iovara's info leak happen.
