This one hits pretty hard. I don't even know what to say. RIP Gene. You are the only Willy Wonka.

Funny how that works. Because right now somewhere around 11% of all wealth in the US is in the hands of just .01% of citizens (.00025% hoarding a bit over 3%). And many of the ones who have the most are still bitching it's not enough. And by the way, the flat tax is the most regressive option out there. A flat federal income tax would later combine with state/municipal taxes for an extremely uneven distribution of tax/earning ratios, punishing the poor(est) the most. You like this idea, why exactly? The people that make the big money have the resources to hire tax lawyers to find loopholes or move their money into offshore accounts to avoid taxes. If everyone payed a flat tax then it wouldn't be worth the lawyer fees nor banking fees and they would let that money be taxed. The more the fed charges the rich the less the fed make, and it has been this way since they started with gradual increases based on income. Heck, they could probably charge them up to 25% and make more revenue, but they choose to do 70ish% and make no revenue. The argument is "should the gov be perceived as unfair or actually get some more revenues". $19,000,000,000,000 in debt... I would be fine with the perceived as unfair option.

I've been in the same boat as of late. I intentionally limit my AAA purchases to a couple/few games a year (if it's a good year). I bought DOOM, and will likely get Titanfall 2. However, I am interested in Deus Ex, but will likely wait till years end or the beginning of next year when I build my new rig. May as well wait for a sale at that point.
-
Yup. As much as I am a fan of friendly fire... It isn't going to change. As long as PoE2 doesn't go that way I will be fine. The IE games had different focuses, and I think the same is fine in this case. If they are going to continue building on the PoE tools with multiple titles then it's fine if each franchise gets its differentiation. Just don't slip back these changes into an IP that already has its magic system set up.

Pillars isn't a game entirely built around exploration. You have a clear story to follow, you develop characters, you meet NPC's that aren't random. Maybe I'm missing something, but NMS doesn't seem to have that going for it. I mean, this is just me, but all that exploring simply isn't as exciting knowing I'm all alone. Honestly I have a similar complaint with Bethesda games. They are great to explore, but once I realize the story and characters suck and there is no character development, I just feel lonely. Oh look, another boring NPC that needs my help. *yawn* That's why I still hold Morrowind up as their best. The bandits had names, and some were related to NPCs in cities and it made the game more interesting from a story point. If most of your NPCs are named Guard, Bandit, etc... It gets boring. Basically just a quest based murder sim. I agree with NMS though. It is the kind of game that would be better as an online game. Like Star Citizen or Elite: Dangerous. That would have allowed for many different types of gameplay.

Same here. @Wrath of Dagon- I like pjmedia a lot. I really like Bill Whittle. He is a passionate man, and although I don't agree with everything he says... His points are always compelling.
-
Yeah, I feel the same, but when space flight games are so few and far between I can't be picky. I'm fine with arcadey if the game is fun enough. I just like flying space ships.
-
Yeah, I'm a sucker for space flight Sims, but I thought it wise to hold off on it for a while. I will stick with Elite for a while longer. I was just hoping for something with more interesting single player.

I'm assuming you mean it's bug ridden to a level that it's unplayable?

I hope you are right. I'm just at a point that I ignore all shooters until they launch, watch some gameplay/reviews, and then decide if there is enough there to get me over my "shooter fatigue." FNV is a good premise, coupled with quirky setting, and topped off with top of the line story telling. It, IMHO, is an aberration in the shooter landscape. It's the best 3D Fallout, and the best game built on that engine since Morrowind. There is at least one shooter every year that I give a chance. This year it may be more (DOOM was one because it brought back old DOOM), and I'm keeping Titanfall 2 in my periphery (because the wall running makes it much more interesting to me than most shooters). We will see. I will give the new Prey a chance if it looks good after launch comes and goes. I likely won't fork over $60, but we will see. Never say never.
-
Eh, fair enough. However, after 20ish years of shooters (and about the last 10 being so flooded with them), it doesn't take much for a shooter to be generic to me anymore. That's personal bias, admittedly, but I get tired of every other game to market is a shooter. A unique premise goes a long way.
-
Yup, that's how I felt. The Native American angle was the only thing that made the game stand out, IMHO. Without it... I expect a generic shooter.

Nearly every major empire in history has fallen from within and from the top down. The US will be no different if we don't stop overspending, decrease debt, strengthen the dollar, and get back to incentivizing hard work over welfare. Even Marxists of the past century knew America is too vigilant to outside threats. Stefan Molyneux had a video on the fall of Rome this week. I've read similar books on the topic, but I still heard some new things. If you have a couple hours to listen... It's an interesting topic. It's a long video, but it is a pretty big topic. https://youtu.be/qh7rdCYCQ_U

I think I remember an interview with Feargus Urquhart where he stated that PoE2 would most likely stay a crowdfunded title. I expect it will be done through Fig instead of Kickstarter, though. My personal guess is they will start murmuring about it after Tyranny launches. Heck, I would use Tyranny's launch as a jumping point for spreading word about the upcoming crowdfunding campaign. However, it depends on when Tyranny launches.

I will start this by saying I am not a fan of HC. I do think she has done many unsavory things in her career, but most of the other times it wasn't easily proven. In this case, whether or not it was for nefarious purposes or was intentional is irrelevant. The law states that negligence is enough. Comey even said she was extremely careless. Negligence and carlessness are one in the same. There are many from the military and smaller fish on capital hill that have been tossed in jail or lost their position for less. Patreus (sp), for instance. "Oops" doesn't cut it when discussing confidential papers because if it did then we would know everything because people would let crap slip all the time. If they don't fear the sword then they would be even more careless. Not to mention she lied to congress multiple times when they grilled her. "Was anything classified?" HC: No. Comey: 3 emails were marked classified. "Did you use multiple devices?" HC: No, only one device. Comey: Yes, multiple devices were used. Bill Clinton was nearly impeached for lying to congress about much less important things. My two cents is they aren't prosecuting at the present because of a couple reasons. If they did it would cascade into ANYONE that sent her an email to that domain, and didn't report her using a private email. Which means it could liquidate the majority of Capital Hill, and probably all the Obama Administration. Another reason is that Obama could very well step in and pardon her. Seeing that it would save his bacon too... Yeah, he probably would. Perhaps, they aren't running forward just yet because they are waiting till after the election and Obama to step down. One of the Laws that she potentially broke actually removes her ability to run from any public office. So, it's an incredibly odd situation. If she isn't charged then I view it as proof that there is now an example that many people at the top are immune to the rule of law. When rule of law is completely ignored at the top is when this Government is steering toward something much more nefarious. That means the plebs still must follow the laws, but those elites are exempt. Laws only work if we follow them and punish those who break them without exception. When laws aren't followed, and punishment not delivered for breaking them, then we set precedent that tells everyone else that they can ignore them as well.

Better to die free than to live under the oppression of a dictator. This is a fun discussion. I hope Miller does keep this going for another movie, but I am fine if he doesn't. This movie would be a great stopping point for anyone's career.

I think the movie insinuates the brides are mistreated, and probably being raped. It's a fair reason to want to leave. They are also on their way to the "Green Lands"... So, they are headed to an area with water. So, water is a lesser issue. The brides are definitely stupid and sheltered, though. I can't argue that, but they have been confined so that is logical. Mr Joe is a scavenger with a strong hold. He probably has mostly dealt with small skirmishes as there seems to be a sort of peace with the other two warlords. So, he possibly hasn't ever had to think tactically, and since his most important assets are lost he may not have been thinking clearly. He isn't presented as terribly intelligent at any given time anyway. So this is also fairly believable. That's just how I view it.

I agree, Lexx. I can only hope the younger Hollywood generation starts taking notes. It is a movie worth taking as a basis for how to make an action movie. Sad that someone of the old guard showed up and made the new generation look so crappy. Another action movie I really enjoyed in the past few years was Dredd. It also has minimal dialogue, and mixed very beautiful CG with the ruinous setting to tell a Die Hard-esque story. It's interesting to me because the villain is a symptom of the environment while the judges are a symptom of the violence the world creates. So, the vicious cycle keeps perpetuating. It doesn't praise Dredd, but shows how ruthless a Judge is within the setting. Sometime in the next day or so I need to catch Star Trek Beyond. I've heard it's the best of the bunch because the characters feel more true to the original series/movies than the first two. It's co-written by Simon Pegg so I'm not surprised.

everything is sexist, everything is racist, everything is homophobic and you have to point it all out. You forgot that everything is hyperbolic, as well. My biggest gripe is console/controller UI systems being shoehorned around mouse and keyboard during a port to PC. I wish they were willing to go a few miles extra and at least make some parts of the UI more accomodating. Examples - Skyrim dialogue is horrible if you use your mouse and click. It will misclick the dialogue above or below. You are almost always better off using W or S to highlight different dialogue and then pressing enter or what have you. Another is DA Inquisition which I forgot buying at any point after trying it on a friend's PC because of how awful mouse and keyboard is in the game. It was, and maybe they patched some fixes in by now, so bad I don't have the time or inclination to go into details.

As someone that doesn't mind Prometheus, Fassbinder is definitely the movie's shining light. I've rewatched Mad Max Fury Road twice this week, and it has become my favorite of the four. Visually it is amazing, and it is proof that you can make a whole movie about a car chase and not make it overbearing, boring, or obnoxious. I initially was wary about it because recasting Max (even though I love Tom Hardy). Recasts can be a tough sell, but Hardy was a great pick. The guy playing electric guitar makes me laugh.

I often feel that way on here. That's why I stay on the Community forums, less rabble make it here and when they do they are intimated by the level of rhetoric that we employ. I will say this, we have world class trolls that wouldn't operate on other forums because no one would understand them. It is elitist to say that we are better because we operate at a higher level; but truly, this community is. I've said it before, but these forums and its community are the best I've been on or a part of. (That includes the bioware forums which was awful). Although the typical bickering happens... It seems most people treat each other with respect. Occasionally a particular topic causes some people to get irritated, but it's all good. It happens. Developer fanboyism feels more moderate here. Many of the people here have probably leveled some criticism at Obsidian, and it may cause a debate, but the criticism is usually constructive. There are always exceptions, but I'm talking on the whole. I keep lurking because of all of this. Obsidian has kept this forum about as perfect as possible, but I'm sure an influx of new people would cause some issues. I enjoy it while I can. I go on posting lulls, but I check in almost every day.

I played Eve for a while. It has some design decisions that hurt it in my eyes. I'm not knocking it, but I can't play it anymore. I'm glad people do play it though. It is a pretty good game, all in all.

Me too, I bought Destiny at launch and had fun with it until I reached the point where I stumbled upon the games only raid that needed co-op but didn't offer any match-making(unlike the strikes and the multiplayer. Seriously, Bungie...wtf?!). The updates also made my hard-earned weapons feel useless so I just gave up.If I ever jump into an MMO(or an MMO hybrid game like Destiny) again it will be either The Secret World or nothing at all. WildStar also briefly caught my attention but apparently the game becomes boring after a while. With MMOs, I have sworn off loot treadmill games entirely. I don't enjoy raiding, and every other game type (PvP) either requires raid gear or has its own treadmill. If something with player built economies shows up (where players/crafters build the gear) then I will give it a go. EG - Something akin to UO or SWG with a facelift. Also, instanced PvP should never be the only PvP. Admittedly, I'm an old school "red is dead" UO player. So, I have different desires than the MMO masses.

Do you need to ask? Yeah, the libertarian party has nut jobs. Hey! look at Ben Carson of the Republicans talking about dinosaurs being of the devil! (Or whatever biblical gobbledygook he was sputtering). Just to clarify, I'm not trying to be anti-religious, but this sort of stuff is silly. And there is Madeleine Albright that thinks the sanctions placed on Iraq after the Gulf War that has killed 3.3 million people (half a million, or more, of which were children) is... And I quote... "We think the price is worth it." The price of punishing a dictator is worth 3.3 million lives... Children and all. May have been an Einstein, or a Bach, or a DaVinci in there, but we had to spank Saddam for being naughty. Makes you wonder if his evil deeds would have had similar death tolls... Maybe, maybe not. However, we do know what our interference cost the world. Let's not forget Al Gore "created the Internet." Etc, etc, etc. Stupid, nut jobs, morally bankrupt, etc are things that transcend party lines. They are things almost every human is guilty of at times or capable of. To think one political party is without moral or intellectual faults is something that defies logic to the point of indoctrination. Humans are human no matter their political ideology, and we are capable of truly horrific things. Another observation: the statement that "more people have died in the name of God than for any other reason" is pretty true. However in the past 100 years... I give you Mao (49-79 MILLION), Stalin (56-62 MILLION), and Hitler (about 50 MILLION). They killed more people than is truly believable. Hitler could be argued as being somewhat religious, but WW2 killed a lot more people than just the Jewish people of the time. All 3 have one important thing in common: a centralized government run by psychotic despots. Those governments arent the same, but perhaps their isn't a "right" way to build a centralized government. Fascism, Communism, Monarchy, Theocracy, etc. it doesn't matter... centralized power means it only takes one person to tip the dominos. It is only a matter of time before some powerful country really does vote in another person of these 3's moral caliber into an office without any checks and balances. Woe to the world when it occurs. Even our founding fathers believed Government to be a necessary evil, and today... In our hubris, we think their ideas antiquated. It's sad. Adding those 3 dictators death tolls together is half or more of the population of the US. Food for thought. That's my issue with Socialism. Well, communism didn't work because they did it wrong. We will do it right this time. Failed experiment failed. In more current news, Venezeulans are hunting dogs, cats, and pigeons because they are starving. Government is ever changing and evolving, and the system that worked 5 minutes ago isn't working now because cronyism and new laws have ruined it. Time will destroy every government. Our best course of action is to ensure that these systems falling into disrepair is spread out as much as possible and not allow it to coalesce into a single mass. Don't put your eggs into one basket. If the states had the power and a few started becoming corrupt and overbearing then people could move to other states very easily. Eventually, the state would suffer from lack of a population and be forced to right itself. A giant country is much harder to leave, and when it starts to fall... The world suffers.
