  1. I had one job interview in my life. I ended up having to do a Thomas PPA and didn't get the job I applied for. Initially, at least, turned out the other candidate was a bit of a dweeb. Still enjoy teasing them with the 2+ years they lost over that decision, but to this day I don't know what the result of this PPA thing was. edit: This one should give @Sarex a heart attack, I recently integrated a customer where I didn't write a single line of code for that integration until one day before the project release date. I faked my way through the entire acceptance test suite with a glorified unit test script. That was fun. Not recommended unless you enjoy a little bit of pressure and some insanity. Heh.
  2. The ending saved the episode. It wasn't as fun as the Discovery mirror universe episodes, but it wasn't as bad as it looked to be before the intro sequence rolled.
  3. Dammit, I had a feeling I forgot something. >.< Ten minutes in this looks like it is going to be "If Wishes Were Horses" on crack (literally). Great, just... great.
  4. He either really believed it and disqualified himself by lacking the mental faculties or he knew and understood and showed a whole lot of criminal energy in addition to moral turpitude. Curious how little difference that really makes. Either way the former Orange in Chief needs to be kept from power.
  5. I used to watch ピコリーノの冒険 as a child - which has no real relation to either of the films, just wanted to say that. Anyway, while the 1976 anime wasn't dark or twisted, it was a different take on the story, particularily where the fox and the cat were concerned. They were mischievous if not downright criminal and got the naive puppet into trouble all the time. Kinda loathe to try rewatching. It was fun as a kid, not sure how that would hold up. Anyway, mildly looking forward to the del Toro version. Big nope on the Disney thing.
  6. The beard is just a trick. It's designed to draw your attention away from the real problem, which is what he says when he's playing CBS corporate shill. Looks like it works.
  7. That's what I meant, are you celebrating France's recent election to balance having Macron as the lesser evil? You should. We all should. Let's buy French cheeses.
  8. Amazon Prime is doing me a favor and will make Lady Asuka disappear in three days. Not going to binge 20 episodes in that time. Guess that means I'll get to listen to the original VA somewhat soonish, that might improve the show a bit - or make it much worse.
  9. Plain to see with the superior use of color and the sharper edges that the first one is the much betterer, newerer version!
  10. Texhnolyze, up to episode seven. Seven episode into Utena I had an idea what was going on, but seven episodes into this much shorter series I'm still at a total loss, although with this seventh episode it seems like a die has been cast, and things will pick up from there. Heavy breathing 'protagonist boy' is sure grating my nerves a little though. My fault for reading spoilerish comments, I guess, but still, pretty interesting, all in all.
  11. Heh, fun with text to speech: Guard Dog as a kid, watching TV:
  12. I'm not a racist, but... it sure is a pity we can't lynch them n*****s any more so let's do the next best thing, drive her out of the county, the state and then some. The stupid leftards and their cancel culture. Wait, what? Something's not right here.
  13. Komi went to Kyoto and insane stalker girl wanted to touch her boobies in the bath. That's it then, we're back to terrible. Okay, maybe the episodes wasn't as terrible as the really terrible ones, and for some utterly infantile reason I find the ongoing storyline that puts Tadano into situations where Komi thinks he might like the weirdo boy more than her is mildly amusing at times. The biggest issue for this episode is that it is kind of the same as a K-On!! one where they go to Kyoto. Komi has a weird tourist guide and in K-On!! the girls get lost, but everything else is really similar, down to the pillow fight. K-On!! even had a situation where someone wanted to touch boobs in a bath but Mio just whacked Sawako for the idea and that was the end of such nonsense (in the entire second season, if memory serves). Needless to say, the K-On!! episode was much better.
  14. It has Captain Pike steering a pirate space ship with a steering wheel. That's all anyone needs to know about this episode before going in to discover the actual spoilerish part that had me equally laughing like a maniac and facepalming hard. Edit: I posted this before the episode actually ended. I can't believe they've actually spelled that out and showed him from behind at the end of the episode. The idea is silly to begin with, but seriously, subtlety, people? A little, maybe? Also, there was a whole lot more of that annoying bridge banter than in the last couple of episodes. Sheesh. "Take her in close." "First date or third date?"
  15. I played The Witcher 3 and didn't like it. Worse, I guess: I liked Cyberpunk 2077 more than The Witcher 3.
  16. Says the one person in the thread who spouts nothing but generalized views on whatever 'far-left, marxist' boogeyman is currently the focus of (conservative, mostly) fearmongering. Did you find that CRT curriculum you were looking for yet? This thread is, as always, a microcosm that eerily reflects the issues of the world at large. If art is, as Hamlet said, "to hold as ‘twere the mirror up to nature: to show virtue her feature, scorn her own image, and the very age and body of the time his form and pressure" then we should probably turn this thread into a masterpice of a cyclical stage play where every month we write a new script that is essentially the same characters talking about the same things, and nothing ever changes. Every now and then an actor is replaced by another, but the roles remain the same. In a way, this is the greatest achievement of the repetitive epic.
  17. I will preface this reply by making my bias known. Objectively, I know that I'm being unfair to the episode. I just can't help it. This is a combination of Strange New World's setup and my personal frustration with all things Star Trek that has been with me since 2009, and it is clearly bleeding into what is the best Star Trek series in, well, might even say 20 years. I'm not yet willing to commit to saying Strange New Worlds (almost typed Brave New Worlds, figures) is better than the first two seasons of Enterprise, but I also consider it to be nuTrek's special hallmark to not even be capable of passing the very, very low bar that Enterprise set. Even for a Star Trek show, Enterprise's first two seasons were an excercise in frustration. Now, to the point, there is nothing logical about this non-standard way to get people to show they understand their reservations. It is, first and foremost, silly to assume the other party you're negotiating with is going to understand exactly what you want without expressing it. We humans do that too, who here wasn't frustrated by someone else not saying what they want and playing games around it? It even ends with Pike playing a hunch, and that is probably the most Un-Vulcan thing there is. In fact, this would have worked a lot better if Spock would have played the hunch, just like Data went to pursue an untamed ornithoid in TNG, or Kirk asking Spock to make a guess. It would also have said something about Spock's otherwise absolutely uninteresting internal conflict with his nature. Of course if they did that, I'd sit here complaining that it was derivative, which just goes to reiterate my bias. I am unable (and unwilling, too) to give the creative team the benefit of the doubt - but I already said as much in an earlier post where I was tilting at Montana's windmills wind turbines. One was a way to conclude an episode, the other was a way to begin an episode. One is about an unreasonable approach in terms of expectations, the other about the inability to communicate in spite of a technologically created shared vocabulary. The differences between the setups alone is enough, but yes, the premise of Darmok and the way the episode begins is certainly silly too. The difference is, then: one silly premise lead to a top 10 episode in one case, and the silly conclusion of the other simply ended an otherwise already forgettable episode on a silly note before we make a flyover with a solar sail ship because REMEMBER THAT EPISODE WITH SISKO IN DS9?, although I'm honestly surprised anyone of the hack frauds on the team watched DS9 - still not sure if that wasn't just coincidence. That said, I also didn't like the solar sails starship setup in DS9, but it was in service of Jake and Ben spending some alone time. I am not saying it could not have worked, but it would have needed to be in a different episode, with a different focus, and I am also not someone who is opposed to episodes that are about nothing much but character development and interactions. In fact, some of my favorite series are almost exclusively about that, and I do not consider Deep Space Nine to be the best 'Trek series just because it has AWESOME AKSHUN AND WAR AND STUFF! after all. My reaction when the body swap happened was a Picard facepalm, and Una and La'An finding that bucket list of things to do was a groan. Not that it is the actor's fault, but nothing what La'An does in the series will ever remove the taint of the writers having the absolutely ridiculous idea to make her last name Noonien-Singh and give her some tragic backstory involving the Gorn. Is that an unfair judgement? Yes, it is. I'm not even sure why I'm arguing right now. The episode was probably better than I make it out to be, and I don't begrudge anyone who enjoyed it. It was quite clearly not for me, and I would have rather had an episode focussing on Pike and Uhura. What I got instead, here, was an episode focusing somewhat on Nurse Chapel (who cares), Spock (who cares), T'Pring (super dooper who cares about Spock's soon to be dissolved marriage) and the unfun duo who learns to lighten up (yeah, well, guess what). Not sure if that will embed here, probably not, but my overall reaction to the character development in this episode: https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/b5b22479-0c3a-4d42-a85a-b1efbf9a52ed
  18. Aren't you at least a little afraid that Chris Roberts is going to make you his bitch? Even Duke Nukem Forever came out eventually.
