The Weird, Random or Interesting Things That Fit Nowhere Else Thread
majestic replied to Blarghagh's topic in Way Off-Topic
This sucks and we can't even blame Trump. We can blame ourselves, more or less. I mean, the EU population as a whole, not you and me in particular. Unless you voted for some EPP associated party in Finland. In which case: You suck. -
Well KSA already announced they'll be punishing some players when they get home so that's got to be some extra motivation.

Which games have aged well in your opinion?
majestic replied to Katphood's topic in Computer and Console
With the first Mega Man you might be right, that was still a little rough around the edges but Mega Man 2? That was one of the best games ever back then, and it still is. -
Backed for the lowest tier that gives the game. I figure I'd buy it anyway when it comes out, so that's a decent discount, and if things go wrong, well, eh... water under the bridge and all that jazz.

That's absolutely not true. An emotional gaming narrative/experience existed at least as far back as the early 90ies. You know, the very first time a PC game crushed me emotionally happened back in '91: "No, not this time. Tengoku de omachishi te imasu!" You can't be serious. Although there's one thing I'll give you: It's far easier today for someone to create and publish a game than it was 25 years ago, so games like That Dragon, Cancer or Hyper Light Drifter have an easier time being made today. That's good - I honestly mean that. But these games existing doesn't mean that storytelling has become better overall. Or improved upon it's 90ies incarnation. The narrative devices are still the same. In terms of pure tech narrative presentation has been stuck for a while now. And actually - I don't think it is going anywhere. Perhaps with VR, but that remains to be seen. There was a VR fad in the 80ies already and it fizzled out. The new tech looks better but hasn't solved the actual problems.

Try Grim Dawn. On the off chance you're serious, of course.

The Hollow Earth theory is something else entirely. Have you not been paying attention or are you deliberately trying to point our attention away from something? Are you a reptiloid?
-
Eh, I was arguing that games like Hollow Knight don't count in an argument that modern day games are better by default. If anything, the fact that Hollow Knight is highly regarded and thought of as better than many other games theses days is, quite frankly, a point for the argument that older games were more memorable (or better, whatever you prefer). As for storytelling, huh, you haven't made a single argument. You're just stating as a matter of course that storytelling skills have magically improved. There are more writers and people making video games than ever before, that's true. The great narratives are still far and in between just as much as they were in the past. Oh, sure, they look different, but that doesn't make them better. You're confusing high production value and polish with quality. For whatever reason.

Between this and Zuckerberg's pictures from his hearing I'm beginning to understand where the reptiloid conspiracy theory comes from.

Saw You Were Never Really Here. Don't know, expected something different from the trailer. Still a nice watch and it's really nice to see a movie being only 90 minutes for a change.

Or they could be like me and utterly indifferent because they don't like the genre. There's an utterly and of course completely objective way to test pop songs. Find a metal cover and listen to it, like Shake It Off from the aforementioned Taylor Swift: Or some older pop like Toto's Africa: Obviously the latter one is objectively so much better. Pop songs that work as metal are good! Why? Well, because, that's why. That should be easily to understand for you all. I know I'm right.

I'll bite. Again. But it's fun. Sort of. Like pulling nails. You do realize that you just prove your point against you? These games are deliberate throwbacks to the earlier ones you dismiss so easily, just with a higher resolution and arguably better graphics (isn't valid for, e.g. Celeste). The only difference being that such games were the AAA ones in the 90ies. That's like saying Kung Fury proves that good movies are still made today. I'd also be interested how exactly the storytelling got better. I don't see it.

Yeah guys, don't give them ideas.

I'm playing Hollow Knight. There wasn't much reistance. The game is great even if the way the map works wreaks havoc on my weak sense of orientation.
-
Switch or Hollow Knight? I've already caved on the latter, and caving in on the former is just a matter of time. ... Which is the point where I'll fail to not re-buy the latter again. Hollow Knight. I bought me a Switch a while ago, it's the only current console I actually use.

Must resist... urge... buy... argh.

That escalated quickly. =)

Well that was a hilarious 2:1 for Portugal. Reminded me a bit of a certain CL final...

RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS - VISUAL NOVELS ALLOWED

It wasn't so much the artstyle or the dialogue, the gameplay and the riddles were a bit weak in my opinion. The older games weren't nearly as long but it took some more doing to figure them out. edit: And yeah, I think there's only one thing we all can agree on, Escape was... bad. =/ -

Thats Herbie the Love Bug. Probably from the most recent movie Herbie: Fully Loaded. Don't remind me. People always talk about how the Star Wars prequels ruined their childhood but dear god, Fully Loaded was worse than anything Lucas ever made and Lindsay Lohan is so bad she can easily keep up with Hayden Christiansen and Jake Lloyd. -

I wouldn't mind a Ron Gilbert Monkey Island that explains what really happened in LeChuck's Revenge but that doesn't make Curse of Monkey Island any less hilarious. That 3D acceleration joke makes me laugh hard every time and that's not even in the game proper. The games that came after it though, uhm. Yeah... thanks, but no thanks. -

Yeha, talked with a friend about this, it's a German WW2 era army sidecar motorcycle with no distinct features and therefore probably the one from Indy 3. -

The world's really gone to seed when people can flaunt their heresy that out in the open. Bring the pitchforks and the tar guys. -
Oh my, looks like the leftists are trying to introduce too much regulation again... oh... wait. Yeah, the EPP's gonna EPP. What a surprise. Le sigh.
