  1. Hey

phpBB is an open source forum software that was - probably still is so as long as they still have forums - used by a lot of companies to implement their internet forum presence. SubSilver is a theme, one with black text on silver background and blue links and headers. Well you can find an example by googling phpBB SubSilver. Of course this board has neither a bright theme nor does it run on phpBB, so that's the joke. The "light" went out when we lost a bright forum theme of a different forum software with Interplay's demise. Well, what do they say, a joke explained is a joke ruined. Sorry Avatar.
  2. I'm done with the Prisoner of Azkaban. I'm not entirely sure why people told me the movies begin to deviate more from the books starting with the third one. Dumbledore was a bit different, I must however, confess ignorance whether the difference in his portrayal was his idea or the directors, but apart from that, well, the book and the film are really close. The movie has a lot less Quidditch, which I really, really don't give a f... erm, care about and only one visit to Hogsmeade. Both changes that the pacing of the book could benefit from as well. Well, here's to hoping for the next one, although I suppose the true differences will come starting with The Order of the Pheonix, because that was the point in the films started to have larger swathes of plot that make no sense to me as someone who hasn't read the books. And I'm also reading The Great Gatsby, which is yet another attempt of mine to finally find a classic that I like. Alas, it appears that I was unsuccessful again - although it really is a well written novel and commentary on the 1920ies in the US I don't care for any of the characters, or what is happening to them. It's a bit like hearing music that you can regonize as expertly crafted and well performed but is utterly uninteresting on the very subjective level at which we enjoy works of art. In contrast, The Forever War, which was also a commentary on social change, the Viet Nam war and the disconnectedness that veterans feel upon returning home, was also quite entertaining and made me care about what was happening and to whom, and I'm pretty sure that isn't just because it has space battles and laser guns. Wait, does The Forever War count as classic? Humm...
  3. Simple but tasty way to deal with leftover bread dumplings: Fry in a pan until decently hot, then add eggs and stir until the eggs are just the way you like them (although if you like your eggs fried to oblivion I might question your sanity... or taste ).
  4. We made some cream of pumpkin soup: And afterwards had a nice Hungarian cold smoked sausage with mustard, horeradish and some bread with walnuts:
  5. What's with the TOS era Romulan Warbird? Well, granted, the show will have a Romulan or possibly Vulcan samurai and Jeri Ryan dual wielding pulse phasers so an anachronism is the least of my worries. I'm half expecting John Woo to direct and some serious wire-fu when the samurai starts deflecting energy blasts with his high tech sword.
  6. But that was VOY, not TNG... 😕
  7. I signed up the moment it was possible to, give or take a day. So a good while now... it's currently importing my GOG library and doesn't want to connect to Steam at all, but hey, well, I guess that's why they don't ship it yet, as Bill once said. edit: Well, Steam works now. It tripped over the 2FA earlier, but now it's happily importing my library. \o/
  8. Weeeeee, I just got invited to the Galaxy 2.0 Beta.
  9. Season one of Stranger Things was most likely a lightning in a bottle situation. To be honest that the second and third seasons were as good as they are is an achievement in itself - especially since they recycled the plot of the first twice. The attempts at humor didn't bother me so much as the constant balancing on the edge of suspension of disbelief. Even for a show with extradimensional aliens and psychic powers season three tried its damndest to be somewhat... unrealistic.
  10. Well with October starting tomorrow I'll be reading the third Harry Potter novel. If they are anything like the movies now the real fun begins.
  11. Final shap! *skip*
  12. Went to vote, then went and picked up unhealthy comfort food to counteract the inevitable dismay that always seems to come with elections recently.
  13. I see myself playing some Celeste soon. I'm both excited and terrified at the prospect.
  14. Oy. 😮 Wait, for real? They added something even worse? Wow. Le sigh.
  15. Wait until you see the B-side of Chapter 7. Eh, and after that the REAL fun starts.
  16. I watched Between Two Ferns: The Movie. Well that's one thing where a movie wasn't necessary. The best parts were - not surprisingly! - the actual talk show segments and the outtakes of these during the credits. Everything else was mildly amusing at best, but such is often the case for me when I watch comedy. It's well worth fast forwarding through the film to get to the Between Two Ferns sections.
  17. I got some reading done during my vacation. Y'know, sitting on a balcony with my Kindle in hand, watching the bay and enjoying the breeze is something I could really get used to. Finished the first two Harry Potter novels (which I got as my monthly Amazon Prime e-book for August and September) and grabbed a few things from Prime Reading, like The Forever War and I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream. Them Potter books were more entertaining than I imagined. I'm curious to see how much different the later films were because the first two were pretty faithful to the source material, and I heard that changed with the third one. Not curious enough to buy the books early though. Heh.
  18. You should have played Everquest. People sold buffs. Granted, the game had some ridiculous buffs with no level scaling, so you could get your fresh alt an endgame gear's worth of stats for a couple of hours right away and you often had to play classes with severe experience penalties (hybrid tax in EQ was awesome, 20% less experience) for them, so that might explain that.
  19. Sorry to hear that guys, terrible news and a terrible accident. I'll be off for two weeks, going on vacation. Looking forward to some good ol' downtime at the sea.
  20. I love their music videos. In The Zone from Episode 2 is a work of genius.
  21. Sure is, WoW Classic can be accessed by subscribers. You still need a key to sign up though. I don't know if you only get classic when you bought Battle for Azeroth, otherwise the base game and Legion will most likely suffice (and you can't buy anything less anyway).
  22. Tol Barad was what really got me. Several times.
  23. Oh boy, so that line "a thousand generations live in you!" is meant literally, and Rey's really a clone with the experience of generations of Jedi loaded into her at creation. Kind of like a human holocron. >.<
  24. Dynamic respawn times based on zone load is relatively new, yes. Eh, and by that I mean it was introduced to immense effect back in Cataclysm where Athene (ab)used it to get the world first level 85 character by simply grinding a patch of quickly respawning mobs that some out of group friends killed, i.e. he tapped everything, they nuked it, the enemies respawned instantly.
