- Well new companions ofcourse and intregrate them properly so they'll banter with other party member... - I don't know if "third city" is really possible for an expansion type product. Maybe few smaller settlements instead ? Maybe we'll travel to a really big city in the sequel? - And since smaller settlements (Villages) seem more likely, many new wilderness areas around them just for exploration purposes. And it would nice if they revissited some of the older areas and added new content on them.

Hopefully we'll get to travel more with our "eternal eight" in the sequel and see how the tale continues! Just like with baldur's gates.. And since more the merrier...we need 3 companions to hit the magic number eleven. Obviously we need one of each missing classes. An expansion would be a perfect time to introduce these companions. -a monk -a rogue -a barbarian And in the sequel they could just continue each of their storylines.

Full Making of Documentary is Now Live!
Carados replied to Mikey Dowling's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
Such a lovely documenatary. I really enjoyed watching it. I'm just going to say its just amazing how much work it takes to create these kind of wonderfull epic roleplaying games. The documentary was really inspiring. Building PoE was a long road to walk, but you made it! And it was so nice to finally see the people behind these games. Must be a fun place to work. It really put a big smile on my face seeing how happy you all were about the successfull launch! By the way, you probably know already that we just can't wait to play the upcoming expansion and the sequel(s)! -
So, traps?
Carados replied to abaris's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Glad i'm not the only one who has noticed that traps are pretty useless. 1. Traps seems to trigger in unreliable manner ? sometimes they trigger ok, sometimes enemies just run over them... 2. Character can set only 1 trap despite how good his mechanics skills is. This should depend on player mechanics skill. Better mechanics - more traps. For example: 1-3: 1 trap 3-6: 2 traps 6-9: 3 traps 10-13: 4 traps Ofcourse these numbers can be tweaked through playtesting. 3. Why not allow player to craft his own traps? -
So Paladins and rangers..
Carados replied to cambam33's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
In PoE paladins faith bonuses are nice, but not really game changing. When I play paladin in baldur's gates, its a whole different kind of game compared to if I played it as a cleric or as a fighter. You get immunities (Fear, charm, poison etc) and powerfull abilities (turn undead, protect evil, dispell magic, remove fear etc) that can change the course of battle. However this comes with a cost, you must be lawfull good or lawfull evil if we're talking about blackguards. In PoE paladins get the job done and they're "leaders of the party", but they don't feel so special. They can fill out many roles, but i wish their abilties were more meaningfull. Would it really hurt to give paladin class some kind of immunity towards fear for instance? -

1.05 (Beta) Changelog Discussion
Carados replied to Blovski's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Well for many cipher players this patch means patching a bit of fun out of PoE. It is FUN to able to disable bunch of dudes with your mental power right from the begining. Now I guess i will have to adjust to new meta, but what is my cipher going to do when combat starts? He must gain focus to be worthwhile and since most fights are over quite fast, am i even going to be using those high level mental powers anymore? Since i'm doing melee focused build, this changes the game quite a bit.. And since I dont' want only to complain, I'll make some suggestions as well. 1. Ranger class is an odd thing. I quess he is quite okey with ranged weapons, but ranger in D&D was so much more. You could make him a close combat specialist or a ranged combatant. He had all kinds of cool spells too and he could choose a racial enemy etc. And animal companions kind of suck to be honest. I quess I'm saying here that rangers aren't that intresting. 2. Druid animal form? Like in every video game i've seen. Shapeshifting to an animal form is fun for few early levels, then it becomes a trash ability. Just like animal companions by the way. 3. I get that that some of the more powerfull abilities need to be per rest only because otherwise we would have druids&wizzards spamming high level spells constantly, but there are quite many modestly powerfull abilities like the warrior class ability called "clear out". Why isn't this encounter ability? I think if more abilities were per encounter, it would actually make want to play longer without resting (and healing). I'd rather take 1 clear out per encounter than 2 clear outs per rest. -
1.05 (Beta) Changelog Discussion
Carados replied to Blovski's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
The concept of ranger is indeed boring. I think the ranger in d&d was way more intresting. They had a favourite enemy, they could cast spells, they had to be "good alligned" and they got all kind of nice perks (free dual wield). The ranger in PoE definitely needs something. -
Features that were scrapped.
Carados replied to Veynn's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I think we could find some kind of middle ground here. What if crafting items in proper locations would give a slight edge compared to if you crafted them in the wilderness. Like food items would be more powerfull if you crafted them in inns/stronghold/camps (somewhere near fireplace) And to make really powerfull potions would require lab equipment. Less powerfull potions could be crafted anywhere. Weapons and armor quality could be only upgraded near forge while less powerfull upgrades (such as elemental damage upgrade) could be done anywhere where party can rest. Scrolls could be crafted anywhere, because I can't think of any sensible reason why to limit this. But maybe crafting a scroll would cause fatigue. More powerfull scroll more tiring crafting it would be. -

1.05 (Beta) Changelog Discussion
Carados replied to Blovski's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Bah focus nerf to cipher :/ And not liking that they nerfed the fans of flames. Hopefully someone mods these back to 1.04 values. And can someone explain this modal ability change? I hope it doesn't mean that player must reactive modals after every encounter or something. Otherwise its a good patch. ps. nerfing high level trap accuracy doesn't make any sense, because traps as they are now aren't very usefull. Why not allow us to deploy multiple traps ? -
This is how I set Aloth. Not sure if the most optimal, but I thought these talents would fit him quite well. He doesn't look like a battle mage, so I gave him talents which would help him to stay far and boost his spell/implement damage 2nd level: Blast 4th level: Penetrating Blast 6th level: Fast runner 8th level: Grimoire slam 10th level: Scion of Flame 12th level: Secrets of rime

Stronghold question - prison
Carados replied to Snerf's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Now what the hell is the point of this "prison" if they all just dance out ? The guy guarding the cellblock is WORTHLESS. For instance i just put some bandit leader behind bars and after 24 hours and even before i had a chance to see him behind bars, he already broke out! Is this is a bug or expected behaviour?! -
How do you rate PoE
Carados replied to Namutree's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Well i could find some minor flaws if i wanted (the lack of random encounters or lack of good puzzles for instance and these are one of those small important things which i really miss from baldur's gates), but PoE is more than i hoped when I orginally backed it. Obsidian delivered a classic rpg which I'm sure play again and again. The setting is just wonderfull and it really drew me in right from the intro. And the best part is that they will likely develop even more eternity titles in the future, so things couldn't be better. To even play this kind of rpg is a dream come true for me. Before kickstarter these kind of rpgs didn't seem to have any future. The Dragon age orgins was the last game which followed this classic baldur's gate tradition and it was developed by the old bioware before EA. So i wasn't really holding my breath and expecting ever to experience a game like baldur's gate. Real time combat with pause, party based, isometric infinity engine type, inspiried by older versions of d&d... Nobody was doing these kind of rpgs anymore, untill Obsidian threw their wonderfull pitch. Is PoE perfect? Well nothing in life is objectively perfect. So while PoE has some flaws, the good aspects totally outweigh those small mistakes or shortcomings. Just like baldur's gates back in the day. They weren't perfect games objectively, but the end result was greater than the sum of its parts. Now i have to underline that I still expect Obsdian to fix bugs and other remaining issues. I'm somewhat dissapointed that so many nasty bugs had slipped through their Q&A even with backer beta, but thankfully they have been really fast and good fixing them. Anyhow this is why I voted 5/5. This doesn't mean that I would not notice some shortcomings or bugs, but at the end of day PoE is just one of the most enjoyable games i've played in many years. And that is what counts -
I think enchanting and crafting are quite usefull as they give you an edge, without making you totally over powered. I personally enjoy crafting / modifying my own gear as It gives each item a personal touch. Potions&scrolls are a mixed bag. Some are really usefull while others seem pointless. Food items are also a nice idea, but currently the gameplay doesn't really require me to use them. Maybe if resting in the wilderness was more dangerous like in baldur's gate where resting in the wilderness areas / dungeons was never 100 % safe, In bg1 & bg2 the party could be easily ambushed by some wondering monsters. And even travelling between areas could trigger these random encounters. Does anyone know why did obsidian choose not to implement random encounters? I think the potential ambush while resting would make scrolls, potions more atractive to the player. More potions, scrolls and other supplementary resources your party has, less often they must take the risk of camping in the wilderness. And why not make the whole survival skill more attractive option as well. Like higher your survival skill, less often you trigger random encounters. Maybe if player's survival skill was really high, the player could trigger even some kind of postive encounters while traveling / camping. Like a friendly ranger pops up and gives you some herbs or something like that.

Angry Joe LOVED Pillars Of Eternity
Carados replied to kozzy's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Quite surprising that Angry Joe would like this kind of game, but its a good thing that he does. It proves us that this kind of gameplay can be relevant to modern gamers as well. Besides there haven't really been many games like this even if taking account all the wonderfull released kickstarted games like Wasteland 2 or Divinity orginal sin. Real time party based combat with pause is the rarest kind of rpg type. Unfortunately it is also my favourite kind of rpg. Aside Beamdog's updated baldur's gates and Bioware's Dragon age inquisition (a great game btw, but not really an isometric rpg in the most traditional sense), there hasn't been a new entry to this sub genre in ages. As for Joe, I personally can't stand of watching his loud youtube videos, but in his defence I must say that he is dead honest and presents his critic in constructive manner. -

Pointy Hats
Carados replied to khalil's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Would be kind of funny easter egg if Obsidian had designed a secret high level spell which allows wizzard to pull the Killer Rabbit out of his hat Obviously using such spell would require wearing a pointy hat.- 46 replies

Class and Race of your main toon. Poll.
Carados replied to Lioness's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Earlier I was thinking of classic elven rogue, but more thought I've given to this, I've decided to play cipher first time. The class concept sounds utterly fascinating. I think it may not be the easiest choise for a first playthrough, but when eternity is all about souls and ciphers can manipulate souls of others... Though to bring some familiarity to the concept I'm playing elf first time. Although it can't be denied that Orlan race sounds really intriguing and they seem to have some common history with elves. Plus its always fun to play the underdog... According to wiki orlans are generally looked down by other races than elves. So definitely either elf or orlan for my race. Heck more i think this, more i'm leaning towards Orlans
