  1. This is totally Fallout, dude. ..but the problem is still that we dont have any good methods to get rid of the spent nuclear fuel.
  2. The GRAW series games are a shining example of trial-and-error game design. The only way to discover a hidden sniper, is to get shot and killed by him. Im quite convinced that the designer behind that still hasnt grasped the concept of "the player is not the enemy" This should be on a giant golden plaque in every studio that does game with cutscenes. And NO, its not ok to do it even if you can click to skip the cutscene.
  3. Ive got a new design flaw that me and my friends talkd about the other day: Making the game harder by either fudging the controls or completely disable layer control. The former was mor common in the olden days of platform twitch gaming, but it still exists today. The makers of Deadspace have said in interviews that they deliberately made the controls slightly slightly sluggish so the player couldnt pull quakemoves and completely destroy the monsters, and so would feel more vulnerable to monster attacks. The Witcher usd the dreaded "remove control" system by having monsters that were able to paralyze and then freely butcher the player without him having any chance of avoiding it. Later on in the game you could make potions to counteract this aswell as getting a special ability that made you immune. But thats just trying to patch up an already broken game mechanic.
  4. An NPC thats supposd to be at this house at all times just ran out from the house we were in and disapeared into the wasteland and now I cant complete the quest. I suspect it was bethesda's famous intelligent AI at work.
  5. Swede developer Avalanche recently had to fire half their employees because the publisher withdrew from the project. Its been attributed to the financial crisis but it could also be because Avalanche couldnt make a decent game to save their lives, and the publisher just gave up on them.
  6. I think the first rule of a name is that people should be able to pronounce and spell it if heard. Now we've got: -Ok, this looks cool. What did you say the name was again? -Frzzmnkglajdghd. -Uh, can you say that again? -Frzzmnkglajdghd. We've got a website at www.fhfra
  7. Honda did the same thing over here with the Honda Fitta, which means *vulgar term for vagina* in Swedish I did try to tell the guys again that we've got a ****ty name, but they refused to listen. This has happened every other time we've done something that need a name, someone just blurps something compltly idiotic and then we never change it.
  8. Me and my friends have been arguing about a working name for this thing we're doing, and the others want to call it "rekyl" (means recoil in swedish) with the motivation that its a short and easy-to-say name for everyone including english-speakers. Now, I dont agree because no matter how I try, I cant figure out how to pronounce "rekyl" in english. Is it like "wreck-yhl" or more like "reee-kill" or what? So you foreigners out there, can you pronounce it? And do you agree that its a ****ty name?
  9. They don't really lie. It stems from the difference in definitions of prefixes. Standard definitions: Kilo = 1,000 Mega = 1,000,000 Giga = 1,000,000,000 Tera = 1,000,000,000,000 Therefore, in standard terminology Terabyte is 1,000,000,000,000 bytes. In computing terminology, however, each new prefix is defined by being a positive integer in 2^10n, so: Kilobyte = 1,024 bytes Megabyte = 1048576 bytes Gigabyte = 1073741824 bytes Terabyte = 1099511627776 bytes (Note, this terminology has now been officially replaced to avoid confusion with lame names, such as Gigibyte...) Hence, your HDD probably has 1,000,000,000,000 bytes, which is 1TB in standard terminology, but in the old, but still widely used computing terms, this only amounts to 909.4947017729282379150390625 computer Gigabytes (Gigibytes). Yeah, manufacturers usually choose to measure memory not incorrectly, but so that the seems to be larger than it actually is by the way most operating systems measure it. But a friend of mine bought a 500gb drive this summer that was about 502gb, so not all manufacturers are running this mini-scam. I think it was a Seagate but Im not sure.
  10. The Dead Space was fun, and he does have several valid points for once.
  11. THAT is the key factor. Imagine you have the manpower money and time to make a linear game that takes 20h to play through. For every branch away from the centerline, you chip away from that time. You want to have both male and female characters? That rather small and seemingly insignificant option means the dev has to rewrite all the dialogue, re-record voiceovers andcreate new models, textures and rig for every variation of clothing you need. Throw in some branches in the storyline with new locations and all of a sudden you have a 2h game and noone wants to pay for that. On this forum we're pretty educated on the process of developing a game, but out there you see tons and tons of kids howling for non-linear freedom without having a clue what it takes to accomplish that.
  12. FO1 and 2 is sort of the same game so I see no point in comparing them. ...and where is FO:T and FO:BoS?
  13. What are you talking about, there are plenty of porbeagles/(Sildehajer) in the seas around Denmark - linky. They even travel as far south as
  14. My largest irrational fear is sharks. Despite the fact that there are no sharks anywhere near scandinavia, there is nothing scarier. I cant even swim in a pool without imagining that some nasty teethed bugger is hiding somewhere in the corner where I cant see them. When I see sharks on TV I have to lift my legs up from the floor so the imaginary floorsharks wont come up and bite them off.
  15. I would not get a mobo with an Intel chipset, I almost fried a P5B32N a few days ago using their built-in overcklocking system. Its rubbish compared to Nforce. And Ive got this exact model of the nvidia GTX 260 896mb @1700dk http://www.komplett.dk/k/ki.aspx?sku=355303 and its awesome. Just as fast as an ATI 4850 but runs MUCH cooler, and thus less gives noise and draws less power. The drivers for Vista x64 are also extremely stable, which can not be said for ATi
  16. I saw a thingie last summer, like a light with a streak behind it moving across the sky. It could have been a meteor or even some kind of rocket(it was pretty close to the swedish space thingie). It was in daylight so it was hard to see. ..AND this summer a police chopper flew over and dropped 5 little white things at very high altitute. Now, they know what those things were, but to us they were UFOs
  17. I seem to have picked up a rather obscure follower, or he's part fo a quest I didnt seem to trigger. If youve found him aswell, he says he wants to go to "big town" but I dont know where that is or what to do with him. What am I supposd to do with this guy?
  18. He even says it twice :D hawt chick with gunz
  19. Animating cinematics for film or games is what you want to do as an animator, because thats where the fun lies. Especially pre-rendered cinematics like Blizzard uses. What you do there is entire scenes, working like a classic animator instead of putting hundreds of short loops together. Ingame cutscenes are very different, you usually use gameplay animations with as small a number of custom scene-specific animations as possible. But the competiton in that field is murder, because thats where everyone wants to be and there is a relatively small amount of companies working the field. Blizzard is about the only studio that do their (prerendered)cinematics in-house, all the others outsource it to animation companies like Blur or Plastic wax.
  20. The GT4 calling thingie was awesome becaue it added depth and dimension to the interaction with the games charactrs, AND it was completely optional, you could just set the phone on busy and they wouldnt bother you. So complaining about it is just plain silly. ...and I tried SR2 for the 360 a week ago. Its exactly like they tried to make GTA4 but with one tenth of rockstars budget and an even smaller portion of their brains
  21. Yatzee actually thinks Saints Row 2 is good: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/vie...12-Saints-Row-2 Its a poorly done and rather immature GTA-ripoff with very ugly graphics, thats it. Yatzee is a bloody idiot.
  22. Of course it doesnt, but it does take away from VD's "things were better in my day" argument somewhat. Personally, I dont think it makes any sense to complain that the tutorial was too easy. You're supposed to play the whol intro in one go without having to reload a hundred times because the vault guards instakill you on sight.
  23. Its kind of funny to complain about the introduction/tutorial in FO3, when FO2 had one of the worst in history. I know far too many people who never made it past the temple with the ants in, I was one of them for many years actually.
  24. The game is really pretty, and it doesnt require a hulk-pc to run either 1920x1200 screenshot. no spoilers http://www.krotma.com/img/fallout301.jpg Intel c2d e6600 2.4ghz Nvidia gtx260 nforce 650i motherboard 4gb of really slow ram and windows vista x64 to boot (xp should run a bit faster)
