The main problem with food or financial aid to Africa is that the major part of it ends up in the back pockets of whayever corrupt regime happen to be in charge at the moment. Thats also the main reason why third world countries have such huge deficits, their regimes borrow huge sums of money for themselves through their country. If we stopped food import we would only starve more people to death because the people in charge will be able to cope anyway and will remain unaffected by the pressure this would create on the people.

Add Holland and Iceland to that list. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I foresee some pretty good times for Arab flag salesmen, good times yeah (unless they get smart about it and start burning the EU flag)

THIS JUST IN: Apart from the french France Soir, the following european newspapers are now also publishing the drawings; Die Welt(ger), Corriere della Serra(ita), La Stampa and El Periodico(esp) Reasons vary from showing support of The Danish Jyllandsposten to simply giving their readers a chance to see what all the fuss is about.

For the same reasons that they were printed in the first place, to raise a debate regarding religious censorship vs. freedom of press/speech. This whole thing began when there was a childrens book about Islam about to be released but noone could find illustrators to draw the pictures in it because they were afraid of muslim vengeance because Islam prohibits depicting any deity or prophet. This were just supposed to have been regular illustrations, not pictures of Mohammed with a bomb-turban or similar. So Jyllandsposten gathered several known artists who werent afraid and gave them the task of drawing very provocing pictures of Mohammed in an attempt to strike back at this self-censorship that was going on because people were afraid of being the next Salman Rushdie. That, and to draw attention to the problem that fundamentalists in the middle-east threaten the freedom of press in the west. It was a gone-wrong attempt to say that if Islam will not repsect the freedom of press and speech in Denmark, we will not respect Islams laws.

Dawn of War Second Expansion is real
Kaftan Barlast replied to Musopticon?'s topic in Computer and Console
They could do what they did with MtG which was to charge you for each deck of cards you buy, pretty expensive though especially if you already own the RL versions. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> There is a magic the gathering computer game? Beyond that old one they released in like 1995? Anyway I suppose GW could reap some pretty big bucks to offer the game in MMO where you would have to pay to play online battles and to purchase expansions. -
Dawn of War Second Expansion is real
Kaftan Barlast replied to Musopticon?'s topic in Computer and Console
I wish they would make a proper, turnbased computer version of Wh40k that perfectly replicated the gameplay of the tabletop game. Sadly, that will never happen since it would put GW out of bussiness as noone would buy the figures anymore. And Im definently not geeky or patient enough to buy and paint an army of figures in order to play tabletop -
Hooray! Another inane and extremely generic german RPG! ) how about.. Being able to create your own character Not having a story so dumb and generic that it could have been lifted from an 80s platform game NPC's that are actually interesting Removing MMORPG elements like being forced to grind random critters for hours without end to be powerful enough to progress the story Less fancy graphics and more substance

This is more my taste, I would also require a driver so I could just sit and relax in the back seat and watch the countryside gently pass by

BREAKING NEWS: In an effort to prevent further animosity between the muslim world and the west, the United nations department of comedy has decided to start a bold new project to finally bring a sense of humour to all the inhabitants of the middle east. The project is codenamed "Merry Mohammed" and will be launched by the second quarter of 2006. Kofi Annan himself said in an unofficial tete-a-tete with reporters that "The lack of humour is a huge problem down there. We thought it would get better with the founding of the state of Israel but unfortunantly, all the funny jews stayed back in New York." British funnymen Matt Lucas & David Walliams stand for the first stage of this ambitious project. The stars of "little britain" are launching a new series of brief mini-sketches to be aired on Al-Jazeera in between the usual news reports. The sketches will be based on the much loved characters "Andy and Lou" The new series however, will feature an "arabified" version about two fictious citizens of Saudi Arabia called "Achmed & Hassan". Two wealthy older men who reportedly will do things that are amusing to an arab audience. We have been treated to a scene which will feature in the series in which Achmed takes Hassan to see the camel races. -Alright, here we are. Lovely weather is it not, Hassan? -Yes, I am aware of the benign conditions of the sky, Achmed. Praise be Allah and the Saudi royal family, our rulers and benefactors. -The first race is soon, do you want me to bet for you? -I desire that you instead give the money to our mosque so that it can be used to fund the mujaheddin that will eradicate the infidel pigdogs from the surface of the earth. -Are you sure? You always say that there is nothing more delightful and intoxicating than the thrill of the camel races, to cheer as they approach the finish and then taste the sweetness of winning? -Yeh I know. -But you want me to give the money to the mosque? -Yeh. -Well, alright then *goes off* -I wanna bet on the camels! Sweden has been an unofficial member of NATO since it was founded. However, our neutrality keeps us from joining in full, the people are also very much against joining "the bomb club" And we're dismantling or military because we just dont need it. Who in their right mind would attack us? We dont have anything useful nor do we piss anyone off. If the world was a bar, we'd be lukewarm tapwater.

Obsidian's Feargus Urquhart at RPG Codex forum
Kaftan Barlast replied to funcroc's topic in Computer and Console
and Kaftan <{POST_SNAPBACK}> As always, the only console company with any sense is Nintendo. They dont steal games off the PC market and rumour has it you might be able to buy a "nintendo card" that will let you play on your PC But I question the idea that you can make more money off a console exlcusive than a cross platform game. Development costs will be higher but so will the sales, and by no small amount. -
Freedom of press and freedom of speech are two things more sacred than any religious dogma. And as always, a person in Palestine or Germany has no say whatsoever of what is printed in a newspaper in Denmark.
-
Why's that? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Part because the animation is quite simple and part because the animations are the exact same for different weapon. Like how firing a shotgun is the exact same graphic as firing a sniper rifle. That was ok to do back then. Nowadays, people would go "WTF?!" if you had a +2 Longsword look just like a +3 Longsword.

What I dont like with most players and sometimes the way designer construct their games, is this preoccupation with over-the-top psycho evil. A player or villain who rips peoples guts out only to see what colour their panchreas is, isnt interesting in the least. What is interesting is a character that has goals and motivations that are completely alien to our moral mindset, but whose frightening logic we can understand. It could also be someone who has goals we can understand but is prepared to do whatever is necessary to reach them.

Some people would say... that religious fanatics suffer from a severely underdeveloped sense of humor This incident made me recall last years fuss when the greek state tried to have a Swiss comic artist extradited so they could imprison him for blashpemy. A blasphemy that consisted of having drawn Jesus on a surfboard. and we have the whole Salman Rushdie deal... but thats really too insane to joke about. There is now a 3 million dollar bounty waiting in Iran for any faithful muslim who busts a cap in Rushdies behind.

The main advantage with TFT monitors for me is that they are much, much easier on the eyes than CRT's. Even running at 100Hz, I will get a headache if I sit with a CRT screen whereas I can sit for hours with a TFT and feel fine What is ghosting? I play on an old and slow 25ms TFT screen and I dont notice anything in particular. Is it the old "if you move something bright fast across a dark background you can see the trails?"

I see two problems with this approach: If one is to have several story archs to represent the different villains, then one must either have enough content for 4-5 archs which requires maybe a full extra year of development(which publishers wont give you). Or, one will have to thin out the content you have over these 4-5 different archs and thus resulting in a much shorter and less appealing game. The other problem is that with several villains, all content in the beginning and middle of the story will have to be independant of the general story or "clean slates" to make it possible to fit it with the end of the game.

Did they really show those ads that Conan did on Finnish TV outside of his show? )

The thing is that as long as there is a main character, he is by default "the chosen one" simply because he/she is the main protagonist. Wether your task is to save the universe(KoTOR) or to face the demons of your past(Planescape: torment) the PC is always, and will always be the main character in his/her story, and thus.. another "chosen one". Even in a game like ToEE where you have no main character, the party is the "chosen ones" who must save the day. As long as you have a story with a main character or characters, a "chosen one" scenario is unavoidable. Sure, you could be playing a farmer who does his chores every day and occasionally seeing these weird adventurer types rushing by and finding out whats happening in the realm through gossip etc. but that no one would buy that game because it isnt interesting. What you CAN do is try to tone it down and make it seem like the PC is just another John Smith up until that point where it becomes unavoidably obvious that youre the one who must save the prince and inherit half the swamp.

I was tired when I wrote those questions, I think the whole question ended up as completely inane, its obvious that Devs will always want more time than the publishers agrees to give them. And Hey! Just because I happen to name something "question number one" it doesnt mean its the first question "
-
I would have expected it to be longer, they only took my first question and in a trunkated form. The one I wanted to have answered was if NWN2 would allow a reasonably skilled team of modders to do a complete conversion
-
Thats just how its usually done, I dont know how this will go. I think youll be able to privately message questions to the moderators and they will pass them on to the Devs
