Four cases make up the main story. Hard to say since I've been playing for a while (since release) but in short bursts. I've been playing case 5 for about 5 hours.

It's an adventure game (of sorts) split into two types. In the first you gather evidence and in the second you use that evidenve in a courtroom setting to win your case. Case 4 is the final case in the "campaign". Then you get Rise from the Ashes :D Which introduces some new elements.

To play that Tecmo golf game, you apparently swing your controller like a golfclub and it follows the swing path. Sounds almost like exercise. Theres a vid on the nintendo site showing different types of actions for the controller.
