The good ol' times...
But it does reinforce the feeling that your playing someone elses character for whom they have already determined the "destiny" of before you even start the game. If an RPG gives me choices I want those to be about a character I created. Not to play out a choose your own adventure style book with someone elses.

But thats more to do with being the hero of the story than being a bhaal spawn. If the game dosnt end in failure(you fail to finish it) you will always win because you have a reload button. Take away the reload button in any RPG and how many characters would actually end up making it to the end scene ?

The good ol' times...
Lets take the story of Bob. Bob is a 3'2 halfling with sandy brown hair and green eyes. Bob although a fighter can only use thief weapons (bare with me there is a reason). Bob also has a rather nasty lump on his head and no memories. Now this is the bit that gets revealed as the plot. Bob is a thief. He's a good paid up member of the guild and he does jobs for hire. During his last job Bob was forced to stash the item he stole because it was large and impeeded his escape. Bob's partner lost track of Bob and only found him later in an alley with a bemused look on his face and large lump on his head. The game starts with you (as Bob) meeting her in the alley and reacting to the encounter. If you don't attack, drive her off. She will join you. After taking care of Bobs injuries she will disapear and report to the guild. Given orders to stay with Bob so they can find the object. Unfortunately the object is also wanted by several other factions. Bob's in a bit of a pickle but he dosnt know that. Bob's now yours to play. You can even distribute his stats. But the concept of Bob has already been created

You can to a degree. Well JRPGs have predefined characters and if they don't have amnesia, then choosing a path isnt relevent. It should be noted however that many outcomes will change depending on the actions the the character takes (nothing as straightforward as clicking an option). If you totally discount your imagination. Point still stands though that while you can define TNO after the fact. You had no say in his creation he is pregenerated.

As long as you want your character to be human male scarred and have shaggy hair I suppose you can Lets not forget not being able to wear armour even though they meet the class requirements , because tatoos are part of the character concept. You can define their character sure. But you can't create your own. Lets see IWD. Multiple races, both genders, huge range of classes (not just three) various ways to customise appearence.

Well no one has copied what PST did. No incentive to do so given it's sales. KOTOR came closest but tried to fool the player into thinking they were playing their own character for a good deal of the game. What PST did it really quite simple. Take a normal RPG you get a lot of choices which may or may not be applicable to the character you are playing. By only having a single possible character. PST could cater every different choice to that character. Of course you can't do that without wiping the characters memory. It's only the amnesia that makes such a character playable in that way.

Wii Star Wars.
http://visun.de/bued/revo.mov I posted it up in general gaming. But perhaps you might enjoy it too. Not sure it would be feasable with KOTOR as KOTOR is an RPG. But for something more akin to JK who knows. Could someone move this down to the general SW forum ? Thanks.

Will you order a Wii ?
I found the full Star Wars sequence. Ignore the end it predates the name change. http://visun.de/bued/revo.mov As someone said "Another reason it's called Wii is you will wet yourself with exitement" If whats on that movie can be done I bet some Star Wars fans will

Will you order a Wii ?
We (excuse the pun) have been talking about it so much over the last couple of days I'd lost any sort of amusment value. Even a comment Wii will go over most peoples heads (as in the concept) didnt even get a chuckle from me. If I ordered one now I'd just ask if I could preorder a Wii and if the sales guy laughed I'd tell him to grow up.

Without the stylus and the dula screen (not forgetting the microphone. Those games couldnt be done in a way that would make them playable. People have said the hardware of the Wii is little more than a souped up Xbox. But in reality what is the hardware of the 360 anyway ? I don't think an avid gamer would dismiss something like Zelda. Image driven gamers , perhaps..

What are you playing now...
Trauma Center. Just messing around on challenge mode. If anyone has played it. What score do you need on mission 1 to not get a rank C ? I've done the operation with 4:19 on the clock, no misses and a score of 4700. And I'm still a Rookie Doctor.

Will you order a Wii ?
No it's Wii as in We. It's also a kanji with the two ii's representing the controller and people at the same time or something.

Will you order a Wii ?
I don't think I can agree with that. I look at the DS and I see how hardware has prompted innovation. And I look forward to the same thing with Wii (which I still can't get). Look at Oblivion. It's not fundamentally different from Morrowind. Same controller, same sort of control scheme. Same with GRAW. Looks pretty but it's not different to Rainbow Six in any sort of meaningful way. Games have stagnated in all but eye candy. As far as buttons go I think thats it. Back in the stick and one button day anyone could play a game. Thats not true to today. I've seen my parents, who have never expressed any interest in my "hobby" beyond buying what I asked them for play Nintendogs and enjoy it. So while I don't get Wii (and perhaps never will, it's the Revolution) I do get what Wii is trying to do.

Announced Software: Trauma Center tentative title Nintendo Power mentioned that Atlus was creating a Revolution version of its Nintendo DS hit, Trauma Center. IGN recently confirmed the title is in development. Atlus has been in the industry as far back as the original NES. The company has become known for RPGs such as Ogre Battle, Tactics Ogre, Shin Megami Tensei, and Persona. There really isnt a grin big enough in the emotes...

I came across something more interesting :D

The Chosen One Chooses NWN2
Say it slowly. exaggeration. Hardly an accurate representation of the story. If anyone here is trying to make the story something it isnt. It's you.

The Chosen One Chooses NWN2
"You see, the missing shard is lodged in you, stuck there when you were but a babe" see no mention of swords. No mention of butts.
-
The Chosen One Chooses NWN2
The dictionary appears to disagree. Synonyms: exaggerate, inflate, magnify, overstate These verbs mean to represent something as being larger or greater than it actually is: lets see a shard is a part of a sword. So claiming it is a sword , yep your exagerating. no you dont more or less have a sword in your body any more than having a piece of shrapnel in your body means you have an artillery shell in you

The Chosen One Chooses NWN2
That is exageration not semantics.
