  1. They work right up until late December, and decide release before Christmas would create a support nightmare. Jan 5 2015
  2. I get what you're saying, because it could mean two different things. He could be calling what existed at E3 "footage." But, yeah, it was a demo. However, anyone but the people who actually played that and merely saw video feed of it afterward (including now) is seeing "footage" OF that playtime. I think he just meant "the stuff at E3, which is now footage." Not suggesting it was footage at the time. Fair enough. I was being overly pedantic. In any case, the game is looking pretty impressive. I would have loved to see a spellcaster, inventory management, options screens, etc. Will the beta have all classes, races, and ethnicities enabled?
  3. Wrong. It was the E3 footage. I wouldn't call it footage since they were actually playing it, but it does appear to match press descriptions of the E3 stuff.
  4. You could have added a beta key for $25 when you confirmed your pledge. Once confirmed, I don't think it's available any longer.
  5. Yes, that's what i meant. I assume most of us are OK with the documentary being delayed in exchange for more content. It's the cancellation of the physical disc that I can see would irk those who paid for it. I've never once had a problem with Obsidian pissing people off because of game design or marketing decisions, but not delivering on a tier item makes me uncomfortable.
  6. True, he's being too dramatic. But I think it's fair for someone who specifically wanted physical rewards to be annoyed when one of the items is changed to digital. I feel Obsidian & Paradox could work this out. Just ship the DVD/Blu-ray later. Yes, there's an extra cost, but I'd say it's worth it for them to stick to what they said they'd deliver.
  7. Now I'll feel guilty if I kill a dragon. These poor little saps will lose their deity and turn to drink. What have I done!?!!!!! The humanity!!! (er, xauripity?) It reminds me of the Xvart genocide I inadvertently committed in BG1 including their guardian cave bear. That was a dark dark day. Considering their "deity" ritually slaughters them by the hundreds, maybe forcing them to rethink their religious practices isn't the worst thing.
  8. Unless the tier you backed included the beta (or you added on a beta key) I doubt you'll get access. Given that people paid specifically for beta access, it would cause a good bit of grumbling if they rolled it out to everyone right away. But, they may well pull a WL2 and roll the beta out to everyone soon before release.
  9. As long as they don't pick some random part of the story to spoil, I'm not bothered. It makes most sense to me to put the first hour or two of the start of the game in beta. That way, you'll just be picking up where you left off when it releases.
  10. I added a beta key to my pledge when they first rolled out the backer site months ago. Is it no longer possible to do that?
  11. With all due respect to inXile, the "beta" they released wasn't a beta. It wasn't even remotely feature complete, and has gone through dramatic changes since. I guess you thought you'd be a big part of the design process for PoE? Other than those backers at tiers including items, that was never how this project was pitched in my recollection.
  12. No... in a couple of months we may have a beta. Did you miss the late December release date announcement? 2-3 month before release can not be called beta anymore. It is like what EA does with stuff like Battlefield. It is a public Demo nothing else. Define "beta" for us, Darji.
  13. No... in a couple of months we may have a beta. Did you miss the late December release date announcement?
  14. Incident? What incident? Did Sawyer get drunk and punch a reporter? Oh, you mean that thing where Obsidian showed PoE to a bunch of people and a small subset of backers have, for some reason, taken it as a personal insult. The next update is almost certainly final class info. Best prepare yourself to not see moving pictures for awhile.
  15. Major updates have been breaking saves more often than not during the beta. I definitely wouldn't count on any beta saves being usable in the release version.
  16. I think the embargo is lifted today or tomorrow. That might save us.
  17. They are? You don't even have to register to read threads on this site. Or most (all?) the PoE updates on Kickstarter's site.
  18. Oh for god's sake...this is why you shouldn't speculate. PoE is not putting Obsidian out of business. They've been around for awhile. They know how to stick to a budget. Why do you think the Paradox deal is an indication of financial problems? They did that deal because marketing/distribution are an annoying pain in the butt. It makes perfect sense to bring a company with expertise in such things. A game studio of Obsidian's size needs several games in the pipeline simultaneously to stay in business. South Park, PoE, Armored Warfare, Skyforge, etc. That's just a dev studio doing what a dev studio does. If Feargus Urquhart is doing his job, he spends most of his day on the phone or in meetings trying to drum up new business. Of course, they want PoE's presentation to be perfect because they want to sell as many copies as possible. That means expanding the audience beyond the original backers. Nothing mysterious or nefarious about it, just good business.
  19. If they want to they can. They can close streams, and delete Youtube videos. Because of so said NDA for example. Will they do it? I don't know believe they will do it? Sadly yes. I seriously doubt Obsidian has the time, resources, or desire to attempt shutting down beta gameplay streams. There will be a lot of beta copies going out, and there are a lot of ways to get video on the Internet. Trying to keep a lid on them all would be futile. I think you do not understand how this works. It is all automated. They just need to send a letter to Twitch. Done. YouTube has content ID check which is also automated. Obsidian does not need to do anything to force this on YouTube and Twitch. You're missing the point. YouTube and Twitch are far from the only ways to get video out. Trying to prevent leaks from all the beta users would be near impossible. Even if it were possible, I can't imagine Obsidian imposing a strict NDA on beta keys. Ultimately, happy beta players are the best advocates for the game. You want them to get the word out. You are making WAY WAY too much of how Obsidian chose to show the game at E3, and your attempt to paint them as some kind of evil corporate goons is rather bizarre.

  21. Obsidian doesn't market anything because they're not a publisher. Any failures of marketing would have to be blamed on the various publishers they've worked with over the years. You'll notice that South Park, the Obsidian game which probably got the most marketing support, sold quite well. Can Paradox afford to dump that much into Pillars marketing? Of course not. But Pillars is a nostalgic game targeted at a very specific market. It's not going to move a million copies no matter what. Listen to what people here are trying to tell you... we WILL see video from Pillars. The backers WILL get access to much more information before release. If you've backed at beta level, you WILL be able to try out the game before December. Even if you're not in the beta tier, you WILL see plenty of Twitch/YouTube streams from people playing the beta. Patience is required, young one. Relax.
  22. That's improbable actually, according to the tweets Sensuki amassed the game previews are under NDA until next week. Well, yeah. I'm not expecting links to articles which haven't been posted yet. Obviously they won't appear until the NDA has expired.
  23. I'm assuming we'll see links here to articles produced by E3 preview invitees. Or if there were no plans to do that, please plan to do that.
