I admit that I have been a bit surprised at the level of hostility certain posters have displayed in this thread. While I would never want to see someone withhold their opinion, I don't really get the vitriol. I have noticed that some of the "angry responders" in this thread are replying angrily to others in other threads as well, so I guess this is just their "status quo" posture when they don't agree with somebody....

Damn, I'm almost scared to launch the game. I haven't launched it since the 18th, and am just worried I'm going to be utterly disappointed if I go in again. Just hesitating left and right at the moment. Okay, though. There's nothing for it. Just got to do it. I'm going to play on easy, no saving, and by extension, no loading. My previous saves have been deleted. I go until the game crashes, or I get wiped out... or (hopefully won't happen) my gear starts evaporating.

I rewatched all of the Tim Cain Kickstarter videos last night, and I was wondering about this. It seems like a lot of his early ideas made it in, but certainly not all.

I'm planning to wade in again today without saving to see if that improves my chances of not losing gear. Will just keep my "gaming desktop" running all day, no alt-tabbing out (I have my laptop and other options if I need to do other stuff). A or A+ priority sounds about right, but I do hope this issue isn't so complex that a lot more time will be required to create the fix. A Monday release of that fix would be great. Well sooner would be too, but I have little hope of that happening. Would be nice to get some sort of "target" ETA from the Devs on this.

Ah okay--but if it's talking to an NPC, it would take that character's stats, right? Then it's just weird, especially if some strings are attribute-locked. I can see some people designating a character or 2 as the main talkers, so it'd be one more small micromanaging task to ensure you select a certain character to interact with NPCs, rather than just whoever's closest 'ruining' a one-time conversation (say, with a boss). As far as I'm aware, only your main NPC's stats are used for dialogues.

I understand that a large portion of the community prefers it this way. I respect that. Just saying that when it comes to testing a massive game like PoE, the more folks who are testing large portions of the game, the more bugs that will be identified and addressed, and the more stable the final product will be. I can basically guarantee that the Obsidian and Paradox QA folks combined won't catch all the bugs, because, well, when does that ever happen? So while I've been chastised for my comments about the current release of the beta being essentially unplayable, by folks who believe they can help make the game better in spite of those game breakers weighing them down, I find it somewhat ironic that the same community seems to draw the line at spoilers. Sorry Obsidian, but we're not helping with the other 90% of the game. Not quite as diehard as a lot of people are claiming to be, but I suppose I get it. After the years of waiting and the larger than usual financial contributions folks want to ultimately experience the final product as any other paying customer would. As long as Obsidian is committed to supporting this game well after release, I'm sure they will squash those remaining bugs after final release. I'm fine with that.

I would be all for that too. As beta testers we should be prepared to make certain sacrifices, and wading into spoiler land is among those in my opinion. Can't say enough about how well this has been working in WL2.

That goes against my save hoarding tendencies, but I have the day off tomorrow, so may just give that a try.

What the heck. I'll bite a little here. Bottom line, not trolling. Not an idiot. I think I'm just from a different planet than a lot of the posters here. Do I write with a pseudo-corporate "drawl"? I guess that's just what working in Corporate America for a helluva long time can do to a person. Unforgivable? Yeah, I already admitted that word was a little over the top. And hyperbole, well, I did take the time later in this post to share my specific concerns, as I had not taken the time to do that initially. I think you're a little late to the party in this post, quite honestly. The OMGICantBelieveYourComplainingAboutTheGameAlready part already ran its course. My posts here are sincere, so as 600lbpanther says, this is just my real personality!

Hey there Panther. I may have to steal your line. I don't think I've ever been called a troll until recently on this forum, but I guess maybe I should figure out what my response ought to be. Typically, it will just be to ignore the silly comments.

You make a compelling argument. I'll give you that!

Glad to know I'm not the only anally-retentive, perfection striving whacko on these boards! Hello brother!

I could be wrong of course, those are my memories of dimly lit things from 2004 (at the latest, I think thats when the Obs forum started). That said, I think you radically underestimate the abilities of some of our illustrious membership (myself included) in firing off angry responses. Reddit has it both ways: you have like a 5 minute grace period where you can edit as many times as you want...unless somebody replies to you, in which case no matter what, any subsequent edit shows a notice. I think a system like that is ideal, personally.

I think turn based combat is an obvious change to differentiate between this and PoE. Beyond that, we have the ruleset, the setting, the story, the characters, etc. I personally don't feel that it's necessary to make it much more different than that. We had The BG series, IWD series and PST all released fairly closely to each other. They were all similar in many regards, but it didn't matter. We got 5 great games out of that, and I don't see a problem if OE does something similar with PoE and sequels along with, hopefully, a series of Pathfinder cRPGs. I'd call that a little slice of heaven, actually. If they want to differentiate further, they could of course look to make the Pathfinder cRPG a little more unconventional. I'm not sure if there's Pathfinder alternative to Planescape. But again, I don't feel that level of difference is necessary.

Backer Beta Information [Not Live Yet]
Marceror replied to Tigranes's topic in Backer Beta Announcements
I'm wondering if the subject of this thread should be updated to indicate that the BB is live. This seems a bit misleading. -
In the main BB forum I'm asking Obsidian to provide an update on their efforts to resolve this particular bug. Not sure if I'll get a response, but when I look at the response in this thread and many similar threads, I am very hopeful that OE will be pushing a fix for this one soon.
-
For me, and I know a large portion of the backer community, this bug renders the game unplayable. I'm aware that this bug was identified prior to the release of the beta, because I saw it occur in one of Adam's Gamescom streams. So I'm curious how the progress to squash this one is going. Was this the result of some sort of minor coding mistake, which simply logistically couldn't be fixed prior to the BB release on 8/18? Or is this one of those head scratchers that you have absolutely no idea how to fix yet? I'm reaaaaally anxious to play this game, but randomly disappearing gear, in a game where gear is the difference between success and failure often times, is just far too demoralizing for me to just try to ignore and roll with. I know you've discussed likely pushing builds every few weeks, but is it possible that this fix could be considered for an emergency release far sooner (assuming that you know how to fix it at this point)? Overall the game is looking extremely promising, and I would love to be able to sink my teeth into it soon! Any dev response here is greatly appreciated!

I was just thinking about that, because everytime I see this thread I'm thinking "No, it needs French!" French!? Haven't you ever seen the movie Quest for the Holy Grail? There are French people in that movie, and I dare say I'd rather not have those guys in Pillars! (Of course I'm joking here)

Oh, have we arrived at the waxing philosophical part already?? So what have we learned here? If you ask me, it's that the forums are comprised of reasonable people and masochists. If you ask someone else, perhaps that the forums are filled with reasonable people and insane worry warts. If you ask OE, well, no idea but I have to believe they've seen this thread. Perhaps they'd care to enlighten? I do sincerely wish sometimes that all I had to deal with in my life were the things you mention, as many days that would be a step up from my reality. But I have plenty more than that, and not all of it inspires poetry, but I digress. For what it's worth though, I did try to avoid run on sentences. I hate those perhaps even more than betas that get released with well known, game breaking bugs! I do want to say to OE that in spite of some of my, apparently, entitled opinions, I'm rooting for them all the way. I view OE as one of the last bastions of great computer role playing game development, and I believe they are capable of delivery a game that is not only good, but amazing -- setting the standard for the next generation of great CRPGs. Sometimes my support comes loudly and even harshly. But it's all fueled by my love for what they are doing and my desire to see it hit the highest mark!
-
By the way, I think I should go ahead and confess that I just noticed a typo in the subject of this thread. It should read Polish, rather than polish. I'm not talking about cleaning up that game. Nooo. I'm talking about adding some of the proud people from Poland into the game. OE, please add the Polish!

Unplayable for me as it is now...
Marceror replied to rujo's question in Backer Beta Bugs and Support
Your issues are common. I've opted to wait until the next patch to play this further, because there's really nothing to be done for these issues until then.
