For me, what undermines that explanation is that the letter mentions how she was his friend and, on occasion, lover. Now, lying that she was his friend to soften the reality is one thing, but why the hell would a Gorion who is trying to ease your pain make casual reference to how he banged your mom when he never actually did? Is that supposed to make charname feel better? Does a man trying to comfort his foster child from the grave routinely throw in details about his wild sex life from when he was younger...fake details, at that? And he doesn't even present it in a 'your mother and I were very much in love' kind of way; the implication is that he is lying about basically being f***-buddies with Charname's mommy. So yeah. If Gorion is lying, then he's was a dirty old man with a warped mind. Who knows. He could have put it in to provide Charname with some thought that perhaps Gorion is more than just a foster father. Or perhaps he was involved with her and didn't realize that Charname's mom was all evil until later. There are a multitude of explinations for this inconsistency. I'm just going to go with what lets me deal with this piece of inconsistency.

Cats will eat rats in the stronghold, hiss at monsters, and are fun to throw into the tents of our enemies.

I keep seeing consistancy showing up and I have to agree. There shouldn't be elements that are presented as be critical to the plot in some way that are then just dropped with no explanation (Heavy Rain). On the Gorion letter, I was under the impression that his original comment on his relationship with the PC's mother was a lie. Would you tell the PC that his mom was an evil presitess and going to sacrifice him to resurrect the God of Murder? Would the PC even believe it?

I think that was due to some miscommunication between development areas and not being together on certain ideas. Also that's why near the latter part of the campaign Obsidian tried very hard to reassure pledgers of their concerns. Although it didn't help with every one of them =\. A moment of silence for those who are no longer with us.

I agree the KS was well done. They had a fairly solid vision of the world they wanted to create. And yes some of the game mechanics were/are still in flux but enough "world" information was put out on a regular basis to allow people to make an informed choice of whether or not to contribute. Other KS (*cough* Shaker *cough*) not so much.

If P:E was a complete player formed party like IWD then the SoZ mechanic would work great. With the developers giving us companions, the DA2 mechanic seems more appealing. If we are allowed to have some type of mixture like 2-4 player created PCs and 2-3 companions in the party then we could really have some fun.

Enhanced Pets
deamon451 replied to CrazyPea's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Since only some of the KS tiers are getting a pet, and I don't know if Obsidian is planning on doing familiars, the pet will likely be more cosmetic than useful. -
Greetings everyone. Happy to be here and happy to have a game hopefully won't talk down to us. I've been gaming since the Ultima days. Well, been bashing on a keyboard in frustration since then. I don't expect to dictate or demand anything to Obsidian just put in my two cents and get a entertaining game out of it (in 2-3 years).

The problem with ME3 wasn't just the ending (all choices don't really matter), or the forshadowing of it (if I save the Rachni queen she gets catpured and I get rachni enemies, but if I kill her I have to still deal with rachni enemies from a cyborg version) but that the end was the end for the character. All the DLC in the world has no effect on anything because they are all self contained stories that don't play into the ending. I want Obsidian to write a coherent narrative that has a satisfying conclusion. Choices that mean something. Since we know there is an expansion pack coming, it needs to fit in post-main game narrative (which possible requires free play) or be stand alone but ties in with the main narrative. If you are going to put a gun in Act I, scene I, you should use it by Act III, scene III. The converse is also true, if a gun is fired in Act III, scene III, it darn well better be there near the beginning (I'm looking at you ME3). [/rant] Sorry but crappy writing really pisses me off and I want P:E to shine.

Actually I can see OE putting this in as a joke or easter egg. Meet random adventuring party who don't have a clue what they are doing and will get slaughtered very quickly without any advice from the player.

Considering the number of cats that helped KS this game, I demand tribute and recongition. Glad to know that Adam knows what is good for him.
