Erm, yeah, ooops.

Yeah, you'd be right, except that the crowd isn't uniformly calling for her death (unless i've misunderstood), just for a stricter punishment. Still, you're right, they are being idiotic in calling for such. I wouldn't be deported for naming a Teddy 'Jesus', or anything else for that matter. But my issue, on reflection, isn't with the mob itself.

Indeed, and why is that? Is it because it was a cultural faux pas, or is it because 'these people' are using any excuse they can get to denounce the west? They're massively overreacting, which suggests that it's got very little to do with the woman herself, and a lot to do with where she's from. Again, the quoted cleric saying 'this is part of the western plot against Islam'. THE WESTERN PLOT AGAINST ISLAM. Don't try to tell me that what i've said has nothing to do with this thread. No, blame is an indicator of responsibility for a solution. Jeez you're depressing. Well yeah, I agree with this, calling for her to be shot is laughable. But so what? If she were executed they would only be 'accessories to blame', it would be the government that actually killed her. Which is why the school massacre analogy fails, since nobody has put on trial the forum members of 'iwanttoshootupmyschool.com' of anyone else who might have encoraged such.

Sorry, but that's the entire point of what i'm getting at, saying that 'they're the ones blowing people up, so THEY'RE the bad guys' is exactly the problem, it's not just 'an enviroment', and if you belive that it is, then it's proof of the problem. as for 'blame', I meant, advocating blame for any particular party above another, which isn't advocating blame, it's advocating understanding, esspesally when i'm talking about my own 'side'. Also, you are saying that 'idiots' have themselves to blame for being violent, and not their lack of education, culture or any of the other factors present. Who's pointing fingers? Think about what you're saying before you get on your high-horse and start talking about 'truely caring about understanding'.

The satanic teddies
If your only point is 'it's not the ENTIRE west, i'm just a normal person who doesn't hate islam!' then well done, have a medal, you apparently have at least half a brain. Otherwise you just seem to be making sweeping statements that reflect little on what i've been saying, considering that my advocation has not been blame. After all, how is 'violence is NEVER justified' translated as 'You're trying to excuse idiotic actions'? As for blame only applying to direct actions, what the hell does that even mean in this case, and what fingers am I pointing at which people for which 'accessory causes'? More so, opinions on what's an 'accessory cause' could be part of the problem relating to 'the wests' attitude to this situation for all you know, so your 'arguments' seem friveless.

So where does the blame truely lie then? And who says that it's only idiots who feel under attack? THATS my point, it's the idiots who are raging, it's NOT just the idiots who feel like they're under attack, because one way or another, they are. This is even ignoring the wars in Afganistan and Iraq along with Israil. Of course, this is just the hot topic at the moment anyway, after communism, now extremist islam. How long before it's China or Korea again? In each case there's only a few common features, and yet, i'm 'shifting blame'. We probably agree that education would be a big part of sorting this scenario out, my posts were aimed at those who feel that there is nothing wrong, and that they're being 'attacked' for no justifiable reason, which, on both sides, is simply not true.

That's part of it, the point is more that i'm saying that while the behaviour is never justified, the thought processes behind it are, to an extent. But again, this is totally ignoring the unwashed masses and those with their own political agenda, for which the door still swings both ways. What i'm saying is that 'the west' is as much to blame for this behaviour as anyone else, and saying that 'they'll get over it in 100 years or so', while being true on one level, doesn't address the whole problem. Some people, for example, feel that their culture itself is under attack from 'western assimilation', which can provoke nationalistic pride.

Totally, that's what i'm saying. Sorry if I didn't make that clear. Of course, anyone with half a brain already knows that.

The Worst Game Endings
Well, yeah, the narrative in general was freaking awsome. One of the only games made that STILL absorbes me, and there's very few modern games that do that. On the flip side, while I loved the game, the ending of Freespace 2 was pretty lackluster. 'Ooooh, Aliens blew up the sun! Erm, great, what now? Credits!' I'm sure they had some great ideas for a sequal, since there were so many untied endings, but it was never made, and that's not an excuse anyway.

She was naive to think that it would be a good idea, but the blame is far from hers. One cleric called this 'part of the western attack on Islam' and described it as a 'calculated assult', which is what the general consensus from those who want her shot is. We can scoff at this, but look at it from the other side for just a second, ignoring the fact that much of it is just unwashed masses being whipped into a flurry by religious leaders seaking to strenghen their political posision. From their point of view there really IS a 'western assult on Islam', that the 'true belivers' are being persecuted and condemned, even by their own. Look at the upper echilons of the american government, can anyone truely say that there arn't religious fanatics dotted around that wouldn't mind seeing Islam wiped off the planet? And even if there arn't, why should we belive that there arn't? I'm not saying that ANY violence of hatred is justified, even a little, but i'm not saying that the extremist Islamics reactions to the west is unexpected either, not while there's even one person alive who would denounce Islamics as hethens.

It's a reflection of the society it's made in as much as anything else. Christian based cultures have always had a very stiff attitude to sex, which, when combined with this 'new medium' seems to send people into some kind of mild frenzy. Compare to Japan, which has been putting sex in computer games for years (though they never make it west, obviously). Look at Mass Effect, it has a sex scene less explicit than that in titanic (PG-13) and suddenly this is a 'big thing' that everyone is talking about, rather than just 'the norm', as it's become in film. Another example would be Hot Chocolate. It was a joke more than anything else, and yet look at the reaction. And all this is the reaction from people who simply didn't grow up playing computer games, but who DID grow up watching films. My prediciton is that, give it another generation or two, when the people who grew up on computer games are in the posisions of power, and everything should stabilise a bit.

I told you so (yet again)

The Worst Game Endings
Why the crap has nobody mentioned Homeworld yet? An RTS with a story that actually makes you care? An awsome last level followed by a satisfying and artful ending helped by actually good VAing? Blah blah blah, anyone who cares already knows, i'm just a nostalgic fanboy.

The fact that the fish chick in Giants: Citizen Kabuto was 'covered up' in the US release of the game made me laugh.

Nice work Nostrodamus.

Xbox 360
The issue is how many followers to turn into farmers, since you're never getting them back. The number of times Llyranor has been given a monestary tile, but has used all his followers makes me laught.
- Mass Effect

Um... Mass Effect.
It's not an excuse for shoddy workmanship, but the 360 gets a hard time over this when, in reality, the failure rate is not much higher than it was for PS2s, esspically the early ones, and that was the most popular console of all time. Sony cirtainly never sank the amount that Microsoft did into alleviating the problem either. Not that I don't love my PS2, I'm just a bit suprised that the 360 is getting such a hard time over somthing that's happened to other consoles in the past.

Happy Birthday KotorKyle!
Can I lick you? Licky lick.

Xbox 360
My score was embarasing, damn you for stealing my farms!

Xbox 360
It cirtainly isn't everyones thing, the game IS marketed for 14 year old ADD sufferers (who consistently kick our butts) though if you want a slower and more tactical shooter then consider picking up Rainbow Six: Las Vegas (play the demo first).

xbox360 - what about the 3 rings of death?
People are complaining about somthing that they think they should be getting free, the actual fee is irrelivently small. Those people don't quite realise how much they get for what little they pay for though.
-
Um... Mass Effect.
The thing that really sold me on a 360 was actually playing one and finding that I quite liked the controlers (as well as the game being played, which happened to be Lost Planet).

Planescape: Torment
Maybe you feel that way, but was PST REALLY better than MotB? I havn't yet finished MotB so I can't say, but the thing about the plot that really stood out was that it was a personal story. No saving the world (except for personal reasons), it was all about the PCs own quest for attonement, and in a genre saturated by UR TEH CHOSN 1!, that was very nice.
