  1. I agree with all of your post except this part: "If you're going to hide enemies in rooms or not make them appear until I'm standing in the thick of things, show me this is going to happen and where enemies will appear." I'd say just make enemies that are hiding uncommon. Like you stated about ambushes. If your gonna hide an enemy there's no point in hiding them if you show where they are. Sometimes an ambush will bring out a lot of tension, but like you said not if it's 1 out of 3 battle. Make it more like 1 out of 50.
  2. People who like to save scum will always feel the need to do so regardless of what you do.
  3. This would be awesome for alchemy or spell crafting. Kudos to the OP for doing this!
  4. No one wants a randomly thrown together dungeon of repetitive mobs. I doubt that's what they'll give us. I'm expecting to see different environments as you get deeper and deeper in the dungeon. Stronger, harder monsters, maybe some special ones that can only live down that deep. I'd like to see a decent amount of puzzles and traps in the dungeon, lots of loot, and see NPCs outside the dungeon react to it somehow. Maybe at the bottom you find a treasure chest, and it has a note that says: "Haha the princess isn't here. Try again!"
  5. DA2...shouldn't have even had a party system.... It was a freakin action RPG, nothing tactical about it whatsoever. Sorry, had to get that off my chest... Anyways, I hope the companions have their strengths and weaknesses, and that they are ultra powerful. I don't want to be ultra powerful either though, my pc damn well better have weaknesses.
  6. **** man I forgot how good these sound tracks are! Man...these Matt Uelman soundtracks are truly among the best ever created. And they broke convention by using electric guitars.
  7. Looks awesome! But it's resemblance to Cthulhu is undeniable.
  8. One word: Stones To this day it evokes memories of the greatest MMORPG to ever exist. Man...times were so much simpler back then. What the hell happened to my life?
  9. I'd like the option of optionally having my options optional.
  10. You CAN make a difference believe it or not, albeit not as big of a difference than Obsidian can make. But you can contribute by offering suggestions to curb piracy of this game. I came up with a few that I listed, maybe others have other ideas too. Going on pirate bay could actually help as well, I'd suggest Obsidian puts some form of pay what you want on their pirate bay torrent pages. You could leave nice comments on the torrent page too, being rude won't get anyone to donate. However, being nice, and suggesting that the devs deserve at least a little bit for their work could net some donations at the least. But Obsidian has the true power to curb piracy of their own game, I just hope it's not with intrusive DRM, but some of the tactics I listed before. I don't think anyone here is actually defending piracy of this game though. This isn't EA putting some rootkit DRM on your machine, limiting you to 3 installs or something. This is a developer reaching out to the oldschool RPG fanbase, making a game that they WANT to make, not some cash cow re-iterated yearly franchise. There's no reason to hate on Obsdian for PE, especially when we know were getting a DRM free version, and how transparent and reactive they have been to us all. If your involved in all of this, and still want to advocate pirating this game...well I don't know, but I think it classifies you as a sociopath. But again, I doubt anyone in this thread is advocating the piracy of Project Eternity, they may be advocating the piracy of large franchise games with horrible DRM, or poorly made cash cows. But leave that for another forum, this is about PE!
  11. Shouldn't your companions be better than you at some things, and worse at other things? If I'm a mage, my warrior companion should be able to knock me senseless if he's up close and hitting me with his maul. But if I get the drop on him from a range I should be able to rip apart his very soul.
  12. Here's a prime example of what can go wrong with DRM: http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/182558/GameMaker_DRM_goes_berserk_defaces_dev_work.php Just because someone is anti DRM doesn't mean they are pro piracy. It's that they want a restriction/hassle free experience. I'll never buy a song on Itunes because I still don't own it after I buy it, I'm just leasing it from apple for a one time fee. Lord help you if you wanna transfer the media you pay for to another device or mp3 player... There's no reason for personal attacks or hate in this thread. People have their own opinions, and calling someones opinion dumb is a sure fire way to raise their hackles and have them less willing to engage in a thoughtful discussion. No one who backed this game wants to see it pirated, but it's inevitable. Intrusive DRM will only encourage more piracy, since it's all inevitably cracked for single player games, and it could be easier to pirate than legitimately obtain the game.
  13. Um....duh It would prevent us from saving and reloading to get the best result. Uh, optional. As in, something you can switch on or off. If you don't want it, switch it off, and save/reload to your heart's content. Also, no offense, but you might want to go over this thread because most of what you're saying has already been addressed. Hormalakh even pointed out that the whole point is moot, since the functional equivalent is already in -- just play in Ironman mode and save-scum (in the roguelike sense, i.e., back up that single save.) Ah that makes sense. Sure why not, as long as it's optional.
  14. Cubase 4/5 took 2 years to crack, not a game though it's a music production suite that had hardware protection. Pro tools 8 isn't cracked for the PC yet either. Neither is Cubase 6. But these are very expensive hardware DRM systems so that's not practical for video games. Diablo 3 isn't fully cracked yet. The reason, they render a lot of data on their servers so it all has to be reverse engineered. Last time I checked they have Act 1 done but that's it, given time they could reverse engineer everything though. But rest assured this method prevented a lot of would be pirates from getting this game, if you really want to play d3 you gotta pay. That type of protection though...it has disadvantages. Diablo 3 is pretty much a failure in my eye's due to this always online DRM (well that and the real money auction house) I ended up getting Torchlight 2 because it allows LAN play. I could have pirated it, but I wanted to play on their servers and it was only 20 dollars. In the case of single player games...they are screwed. There's no way to prevent pirates without some expensive hardware DRM, and even that only delays them....usually. MOTU uses a hardware protection that hasn't been cracked to this day, and they make some bad ass virtual instruments. So DRM methods that work actually exist, they are just not a good fit for P:E because it's a single player video game, not some $600.00 production suite or a game that requires a connection to severs. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Now after reading through a lot of this thread I've come to a couple ways to try and keep PE piracy as low as possible: 1. The developers need a good relationship with their customer base. They should be active on facebook/twitter/their forums/steam whatever. They need to get out their and show they are people who work hard and deserve your money. As was said in a post, your more inclined to give your friend a $50 he dropped vs a stranger. 2. Make sure the game is easier to obtain and play legitimately than via pirating. This is harder on the PC, a simple torrent download will net you a game in most cases, with a simple exe replacement as the crack. However, a lot of people would still rather not deal with sifting through possibly bad torrents, waiting for a possible long download, the possibility of viruses, so you have an edge there. And offer FAST download speeds! 3. Don't bundle other crap with your game, especially some intrusive DRM that limits the number of installs or something. ITunes comes to mind with their stranglehold on your media. Why would I pay for media that is limited when a quick search can offer it free of restrictions....With all the licensing and what not, it's easier to pirate Game Of Thrones than to find a legitimate stream, they are missing a huge opportunity because of their restrictions. 4. Make it affordable. A lot more people would be willing to pay $30.00 for this game than $60.00. This was a big factor when I bought TL2, it was only 20 bucks and I sure as hell got and continue to get value from this game. 5. Accept the fact it will be pirated to some degree, and use it to promote your game rather than condemning pirates. I linked an article before where a company did this, and basically had a pay what you want type deal. He basically said hey, I hope you guys like this game, and if you can please consider donating if you enjoy it. I work hard and don't make much money and every little bit helps. That's all I can think of for now.
  15. It shouldn't. On the other hand, what difference would an optional, settable save-timeout for the benefit of those of us totally lacking in willpower make to you? Um....duh It would prevent us from saving and reloading to get the best result. Some people like to play that way, we shouldn't be punished for your lack of willpower. Look at it this way: Saving/Reloading limitations don't allow people to play the way they want if they want to save and reload constantly for the best result. Saving/Reloading without limitations allows everyone to play as they wish in regards to saving/reloading. TLDR: If you don't like saving/reloading 'abuse' then DONT DO IT! Don't force everyone to play the game like you want, single player RPGS are about choice. I don't understand this obsession with forcing people to play what you think is "the right way". The beauty of a game like this is: The right way is YOUR way. If you think reloading over and over is cheap I have a solution for you. Don't do it!
  16. Cracking groups look at DRM as a new challenge. Hell, it took AiR 2 years to crack Cubase 4/5 (5 didn't update protection cuz it wasn't cracked yet) but they did it. And the reason it took so long is because cubase uses hardware protection in the form of a usb stick. They reverse engineered it eventually. Steam's DRM has been cracked for a long time. Single player games....they have no protection from getting cracked. Multi player games can limit access to their servers with various detection methods. So, PE will be pirated, it's just a fact of the world we live in today. What the devs shouldn't do is go after them, instead use the force of piracy for their own good. Like this: http://arstechnica.c...y-work-for-him/ Intrusive DRM will just piss people off and will be cracked. And every copy pirated is not a lost sale. Some people are called collectors, and just download everything they can. Other people refuse to spend money on software, and have been that way for years. The only way to stop piracy is by making your game free. Unfortunately F2P models don't exactly fit in old school RPGs like this one. Kind of ruins the immersion when you can't access a quest or item without paying. Piracy definitely hurts PC games the most. It's 100x easier than modding your xbox or ps3...well the ps3 was easy if you found an old enough one. The xbox you have to rip apart to play pirated games. The PC....download torrent, read nfo.
  17. Just please include the god of alcohol, chuck norris. On a more serious note (ironically) I'd like to see a god that had a very lewd sense of humor, and he would get drunk on whatever gods drink. Think of that embarassing drunk uncle who told the dirtiest jokes and laughed at them louder than anyone. He would arm wrestle you and dare you to eat hot peppers, call you a wuss and fight with his brothers. A ragged looking fellow with a beer gut, but a very strong frame and arms. His eyes would be as bloodshot red as his ears and nose, and his breath could turn the undead, not by some power but sheer aroma. He'd have the power of courage on his side, and his weakness would be reason, or some sort of dui check for gods. Worshipiing him requires a night of heavy drinking, possibly a game of poker or hearts, and when he plays he's bluffs about being a bluffer and really plays conservatively most of the time. His laugh should be one of his most defining features, loud yet pleasantly contagious and slightly fuzzy around the edges. He should clap people on the shoulders and back constantly, and become incredibly enraged when challenged. However, after the battle the former enemies should form a grand friendship.
  18. ^^^^ That guy gets it. Edited post since my point's already been made.
  19. Eh...Physics don't matter much to me in a top down game like this. Just get the animations right.
  20. Saving only outside of combat is fine with me. I wouldn't expect to come back mid-battle and remember what's been going on anyways. As far as the OP: Your talking about something that wasn't included by design, but rather a limitation due to hardware. There's no reason to punish players for saving the game, period. If you think saving every 2 seconds takes away from the game, don't do it! NO CHECKPOINTS! I'm not 14 any more, I have responsibilities and would like to play this single player, incredibly long game at my own damn pace. If that means I can only play 15 -30 minutes a day I don't want to be punished. And don't you dare think about respawning monsters on loading saves, this isn't a hack and slash rpg.
  21. I've been loving this game! Cool music, nice scenery, awesome platformer. Check it out! http://store.steampowered.com/app/223730/ It has a demo to try out, but it's cheap as hell anyways.
  22. I'd like to see reverse vampires. They would, of course, supervise the Rand Corporation.
  23. As long as they have pointy ears and are tall and beautiful, do whatever the hell you want with elves.
