A bit off-topic from me here sorry but, I found one solution and that was to gun straight for the story content straight from the start and not deviate from that path whatsoever. Not a single side-quest picked up until that point. Don't know if spoiler but there is a pretty good bottle-neck which would allow you to still feel that "sense of urgency" yet being able to explore widely as you see fit for a little bit without losing that "sense of urgency". On my first character I ended up in the side-mission hell and was a tad bit exhausted. The typical Fallout 4 exhaustion "I must find my son!" is the main objective but after an hour or two "Oh snap! I totally forgot about the son aspect of this game!".

Of course it is niche. It's been niche from the beginning. Pillars of Eternity also had 30k at it's peak at the start. Deadfire had 22k at its peak start. The dip is expected. That we knew already from the Fig. Pillars 1: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/obsidian/project-eternity 73,986 Backers Deadfire: https://www.fig.co/campaigns/deadfire 33,614 Backers We already knew this. Also: Have you looked on GoG lately? It was on number 1 like all last week, and now on number 5. Still getting raving reviews, and will sell more along the lines of time. These are 100% cultural classic games imo and will definately be sold over many many years to come. Big difference this time and last time was exposure (to my knowledge). Like, we had AngryJoe (review), TotalBiscuit (talked about it), everybody from Co-Optional pretty much (Well, Jesse Cox was invited to play), Felicia Day as well. Much more exposure in different Online News outlets. Names people know and IIRC a couple more. I'm not hanging out in the Twitch community and know hardly anything about them but there was some single dude doing Twitch streams about Deadfire? Waaaay less exposure. Or maybe there was a lot, I just didn't have enough free time to pay attention during this campaign (I have a full time job with a lot of resposibilities this time around ,comparatively with no job and way too much time during the Kickstarter ). Realistically though, business people and numbers crunchers are right, it is a flop comparatively to Pillars 1. But, might very well be a success in profit. Don't know how that functions in the video game industry, but I know that in many industries is that as long as there is profit revenue it is a success. Regardless if it sold more or less than a previous title. Other industries are harsher, as long as it isn't at least +0.00001% of previous revenue, it is a flop. Broad Example: Let's say Pillars made +50% revenue, and Deadfire made +20% revenue, it would still be considered a success in the business side of things (Maybe not a success to make a third installment, but nonetheless a success for the company). As long as it isn't -0.00001% it's still a success. Simpler example: Obsidian Entertainment, 100$ Pillars of Eternity, +50$ equals 150$. An increase of +50% Deadfire, +30$ equals 180$. An increase of +20% Super simple example not taking in any expenses whatsoever. From the gamers, consumers or players perspective though, then I don't think we will see an isometric Pillars of Eternity 3 for quite some time. I think we might see an aRPG or First Person RPG spawn from the IP next (There was some trailer where you see some pretty solid background and close ups of the Companion character models that looked really good. Made me feel like a third-person game might be developed next with the IP). Or a Beat-Em-Up game xD Fists of Eternity!!! (Or Rivals of Eternity, Eder vs Pallegina... a hooded evil Watcher character being final OP boss unlockable) Would this cause isometric RTwP cRPGs to stop being made? Don't know and have no clue. Don't know how many are in development, don't know how many exist. Will it cause Pillars of Eternity 3 to do a hiatus time jump/skip? Probably. I don't want it to, but it probably will. Pillars of Eternity is just one title, it is not "Pillars of Eternity == RTwP cRPGs". @OP: Your title would've been much better as "Will this be the last of Pillars of Eternity?" because that's pretty much what you are fishing for isn't it? == EQUALS TO Dog == Canine Dog =/= Feline Pillars of Eternity =/= RTwP cRPG-genre Pillars of Eternity IS part of the RTwP cRPG-genre See the difference? TL;DR: Just uneducated speculation.

I agree with this. A) It's pretty cheap. I still don't understand how or why it triggers. It has happened twice out of the blue. Also a couple of times I've avoided it like the plague, obvious dialogue choices that obviously lead down the romance path. Only time I actively went down the path was with "lovesome" although, it was more of a "flirt in the moment". Probably leads to third base if I had gone to her without a party. B) The whole idea about companion reptuations seemed to me was going to be expanded upon and how companions felt about each other, about factions, about you. Not romance (Because it's "expensive"). When a forced dialogue starts I always think "Oh this is going to juicy! We're going to delve deeper into the character!" or "We're going to discuss the tasks at hand!" and instead it's all "Wink wink, subliminal messages, flirt flirt, cryptic cryptic, wink wink". C) It's distracting and awkward. Pops out of the blue. Remember folks, you're on a boat. You're close at a lot of times. Even if you'd dismiss someone from the adventuring group, they'd still be there on that boat for weeks and months sailing the seas. Or even if you keep someone in the group. If the love is mutual, you're like 10-15 people, on a boat. Where do you go to conduct your business? It just feels awkward (*cough* then again, thinking about, I've been in such situations... it's only awkward for everybody else, not for the couple. But that's sort of the point I'm trying to get across here too). And speaking of dismissing or rejecting someone, the options to do so feels wkward and feels a bit inconsiderate, maybe even inappropriate at times*. I won't say who, but I think mid-dialogue I was starting to realize what was going on and was realizing it was cryptic flirting, "Wait, this is a romance dialogue branch, how did this happen?", and I didn't have the heart to choose the "Nope" options because we were so far along. I felt somewhat manipulated by the writers to go down a path I didn't want to go down. Take into consideration that whenever a dialogue triggers, I expect broader story elements so I will always investigate them. * Where is the "How did this happen?" dialogue option? Because I (The Player) get confused how the romantic option even triggered to begin with. Tooltip, please? "Based on your previous X actions you are now here"~gamified. 4th Wall breaking. I don't care. I want to know what I did to get there so I can choose the best approach to handle it. E.g. "You slayed X beast which Y hated and because you did she thought you were more attractive" or "You chose option X at location Z which Y aligned with" or "You really like X food" etc. etc. or whatever. There's a lot of background processes that we don't see that triggers these romantic options that I don't have a clue about. If I know about them, then maybe the romantic options are more appropriate, AND ALSO easier to divert in a natural way.

Pillars of Eternity: Pen and Paper Starter Guide
Osvir replied to hamskii's topic in Pen-and-Paper Gaming
@Mods: How much are we allowed to share of the PnP here on the forums...? (Legally) Can I copy+paste texts/paragraphs and share? I'd be interested in doing something like this, but need Players, and I would in that case also want to be a part of their character creation process, so I can give carrots, present challenges, and also know origins, secrets and so on and so on. Be a guiding and helping hand through the character creation. Such stuff could work really well in PM's on some medium (Discord? Skype? Obsidian Forums?). OpenRP? (Although, I don't know it well enough) Somewhat wanting to create some mini-campaigns just one-on-one with Players, and then weave it together with other Players forming groups/rivalry and whatnot over time. The starter guide is quite extensive, and just at a glance I see tons of potential in it. I really like the look of it. Though, I wish it expands with a visual aid, a world map of Eora (not just Dyrwood and the Deadfire from the games, but a more general top-down world map of all of it). -

Preloading!?!? *logs into steam* -
Haha, I can't say it better than the YouTube channel, where the ideology is "Yes" it's your choice to go with the impulses. Just wanted to pass forward some positive, but I suppose maybe it would've been better in the signature as a sort of inspirational or optimistic message ^^

I did kind of for IWD & BG, but I got help from somw friends. They made one character each, and even wrote the Bio for them. I found IWD & BG thinking it was a local Co-Op game xD but I was wrong. So we were a bit bummed after we started, but I continued on. That's why "kind of" because the characters were my friends creations. I usually make custom parties around a "theme" and in optimazation sequences I imagine their personalities during character creation, but not so much during play.

https://pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com/Pillars_of_Eternity_(pen-and-paper_RPG) Inspired by: Jagged Alliance Pillars of Eternity Battle Brothers Soloplay (1-Player) or Multiplayer (15-20 Players Max, Potential 3-4 Parties. Parties not a must) 4X, cRPG, TB Free Palatinate of Dyrwood & Deadfire (+ any more lands that may or may not be included in the official PnP, to be released at some point). Interested? Thinking several groups, wrestling for fame, fortune, kingdom, passion, ambition, tyranny, to be a baker, guard, advisor, hero, King, Lord, Hero, Evildoer, whatever. Travel the world, roll dice, see what happens. Using Pillars of Eternity lore, PnP rules, monsters, timeline or parallell dimension and/or parallell timeline/spacetimecontiuum. See attached file for Map~Style/Movement/Exploration (rough around the edges. Paint). Grid, taking turns walking wherever you want to walk, using in-game maps for reference and inspiration for uncovered areas. Basic starting setting is that the world is moderately peaceful, no evil mastermind (diceroll*) or even any particular hero has arrived (diceroll**). In some places there are some more turmoil (diceroll***), and in some less (diceroll****). Stuff can happen, basically, and the Player can attempt and go for anything. https://www.wizards.com/d20modern/d20mdice/dice.htm World Difficulty (High): * Evil God Mastermind Lord Eliminator Tyrant Destroyer of Kith; Aka The Kithslayer. More and stronger villains appear, both as monsters in the wilds, and as monster generals in the Kithslayer Army. Untamed wilds, dangerous dungeons, permanent death. Starting Level (Low): ** Farmer 'Boi' Boy (Who may or may not fulfill his/her "Destiny") Level of Heroes~ A Soldier in an army who commits brave or "victory/survival at a disadvantage" acts, or a villager who stands up against a monster, with pitchfork in hand. A traveler who has bonded with his caravan, who delays or sacrifices himself, for the survival of his friends. Nothing outrageous Legendary Swordsman of the West. Simply men and women. The Player will start at a Low Level. Current World State: *** In a wee bit more places than some+more turmoil. The world is under tyranny and dismay, only a few places left untouched, but not for long. "The Kithslayer claims all!", with war on the brink, against foul men and demons, Eora makes its stand! World Counter = [World State]-d20 = [X] [X]-[World Difficulty] = Goal World State **** Though, the resistance is strong and stable, standing off at a Cold War, for now. But when the Kithslayer moves his main elite destroyer forces against anyone, nothing stands in his way (World Turn Diceroll+Direction Roll). Needless to say, if none stand up for the resistance or the world, they will find themselves in a losing battle. ***** Up to the Player to join the evil or the good, or be a wanderer in the world, a neutral peddler, adventurer, or a vigilante, fighting for your own cause, your own leadership. This would be a long campaign, where it is formed in such a way that a Player can become Lord, and see the effects of it, own a fleet, create their own organization, recruit, expand, exploit, take control. Have several characters (Jagged Alliance) on the board at a time, and "X" action points to spend each "turn". Obviously, this would be homebrew, just need to know the actual base rules of the official PnP (Especially the Stat/Abilities Rules/Template). Just thought that it would be fun to see who's interested now and let character concepts and ideas come into the world portrayed above***** All I remember rules-wise for the PnP is that it's going to be classless (From Tumblr IIRC). No idea if it'll encompass all of Eora, or simply only Dyrwood+Deadfire. Anyways, in the PnP I believe you'll have the potential to be anyone you want and have imaginative and colorful abilities, and in the homebrew I'm thinking of you could eventually reach Godhood and even be a Priest/Paladin/Fighter/Monk/Rogue/Druid/Wizard/Ranger/Chanter/Barbarian/Cipher Multiclass combo. Though, perhaps in various "Life Peaks". Different "Peaks" or "Headchanges" in their lives. A Fighter who becomes or joins a Paladin Order, only to later leave and pursue the arts of the Wizards, only to later join a band of thieves, and so on and so on. Picking up skills and abilities as you go, rather than at "Level Up". Progressing in talent based on your actions (and d20 Luck). I'm also a little bit interested to see who would be interested, because I got inspired to do some pixellated avatars and art for a campaign like this xD Sort of or something like the PnPMaleHumanEvilBattlemage (attachement, it's small, 32x30 pixels). Also: ***** I just came up with all of that story based on the rolls I made in the d20 modern dice roller xD making a "Reset" and choosing another Rogue-lite scenario campaign, is easy, I'll just re-roll.

Game won't start any more Win 7
Osvir replied to thekdawg21's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
What Antivirus do you use and is Pillars of Eternity whitelisted? -
- Anything with Fighter is solid, safe, and stable, in my experience. Not necessarily the strongest DPS, just simply solid. Devoted/Bleak Walker or Devoted/Conjurer (Quarterstaves or Pikes) does dish out some serious damage though. Unbroken/Shieldbearer of St Elcga is probably my favorite though, up to 5 Engagement targets, just simply a good deterrent to have on the board. I believe I'll have MC+Eder tank it up, and Aloth and Pallegina focus Damage, and Xoti or Tekehu focus Support. Haven't tried Black Jacket, but I imagine an Island Aumaua Black Jacket/Sharpshooter (with Guns) could be a fun active gunner build. Or a Black Jacket/Wizard (Does the switching apply to Grimoires too? Because that's pretty much the only reason/argument for Black Jacket/Wizard, a Wizard with a large repertoire of spells and several different Grimoires to cast them, Pure Wizard). EDIT: Errrr... Island Aumaua doesn't have Arms Bearer in Deadfire xD so I'd probably go with an Orlan or Wood Elf instead. - Lifegiver/Eothas (Druid/Priest) is what I've had most experience with as a healer (Though, a Pure Lifegiver might be better than a Multiclass combo in this regard), though Wael or Magran might be better picks because of their Spiritual Weapons (Ranged: Rod, or, Pistol+Sabre). Great heals.. buuuuut... again, Fighter/Priest (Cleric) is just.... solid. You get a melee support/healer/sub-tank that can engage some targets and also doesn't have to re-position themselves to land value heals (also, you don't have to spend much into Intelligence with this sort of Healer/Tank). - Illusionist/Trickster is gimmicky, I didn't spend much time with it and got squished pretty hard, but I don't think I played it, attributed it, or geared it, right. Lots of potential. Though, writing it up makes me want to test and investigate Cipher/Trickster or Cipher/Illusionist. Just different variations of "Mind Mages". - I also tried Ghost Heart/Cipher, I don't remember what sub-class I picked, but it was probably the strongest build I played. Again, didn't spend much time with it and I didn't optimize it. Easier to get "right" than Illusionist/Trickster. - Evoker/Fury, glass cannon "iNuclear Launch Detected!". Though, this is a bit speculative. In the Beta, we play from Level 6 to 9. This build is weak. But when you see the tools it has, and the potential it has, it will be one of those "Weak early and mid-game, strong late-game" type of builds. It can burn through most of its encounter resources without much changing on the battlefield, which is why when every spell level is 4/4+ at the late game this build will be probably one of the stronger ones. - Wizard/Priest is also strong~ Deadfire's own Red Mage

Heh, I think I've tried every "Cipher Solver" that I could find (dcode is a good resource for testing) but all that comes out is gibberish. I might be doing it wrong though (the upper cases and lower cases are grouped as the same letter in the online versions, as well as the numbers seem to stick around). So when I do it, it doesn't matter if it is "A" or "a", it is registered as a the letter "a" regardless, and numbers aren't always processed either, so a "6" will stay a "6" at the place it is. If it is the Ceasar cipher, then we have to manually decrypt it, which is beyond my ability (also I'm too lazy, automation is so much more simple ). But there are codes without numbers, and I believe codes with unique letters (no repeats) and they still just turn out gibberish in the online decryption software I use. One would think that at least one code would make some sense or make out to be some sort of understandable words or phrases using any sort of Cipher solver, but alas, nope. Nothing. Although, your reasoning sound solid. EDIT: For instance, here's one: XQrdGv And it gives this result at this site, I do a "Brute Force": https://www.dcode.fr/caesar-cipher "Brute-Force : all shifts are tested, text is limited to the first 250 characters. To keep punctuation and space, please indicate the correct shift found (+XX)." +15 IBCORG +3 UNOADS +2 VOPBET +16 HABNQF +17 GZAMPE +24 ZSTFIX +25 YRSEHW +12 LEFRUJ +21 CVWILA +13 KDEQTI +6 RKLXAP +20 DWXJMB +22 BUVHKZ +23 ATUGJY +4 TMNZCR +5 SLMYBQ +19 EXYKNC +18 FYZLOD +1 WPQCFU +10 NGHTWL +14 JCDPSH +9 OHIUXM +7 QJKWZO +8 PIJVYN +11 MFGSVK Gibberish.

I'm simply trying to look at it from different angles. I think it's fun, I like puzzles (if it is indeed a puzzle) :D I hope it's going to be something but if it's just random letters and numbers without any meaning that some dev started with for giggles and then it escalated into this it'll be a bit "Meh" for sure. Don't really see much hype in it personally. Just find it curious. EDIT: Also, "If you look hard enough" was poor wording, what I meant is that in hangman puzzles you want long words (for example, "Pillars of Eternity", or "Encyclopedia") because then you cover more letters.

I've been looking at this from another angle. Could it be possible that we have to mix and combine the codes somehow to get some message? E.g BtF6nWw6Pd2u is one result? Or what if it would be something like BtF 6nWw6Pd2u? 2 words that are formed but you just need to find the structure? For instance, there is only one place you can spell out OBSIDIAN (example) amongst the code (with unique letters, I also tried KFK and MaM). dGvCoC6e OBSIDIAN This is by combining/cutting/mixing XQrdGv and CoC6eF. For example, in a Hangman scenario it could look something like this: BtF6nWw6Pd2uSHbEXBc Ce dpo8twCgwBMahh7KFK5LjRMaM4AXQr dGvCoC6e FDeYvu8HTEPbK25PwqvVMTjAbyJ3BqA ---A---A-O-----N--I IN O-----IB---------------------- OBSIDIAN -ON-S----N--------SS---------B- If you look hard enough I bet you could use this method to find "Pillars of Eternity" or "Deadfire" in there somewhere (take away OBSIDIAN first, because "Pillars Of Eternity" and "Obsidian" doesn't work). EDIT: Maybe not xD BtF6nWw6Pd2uSHbEXBcCedpo8twCgwBMahh7KFK5LjRMaM4AXQrdGvCoC6eFDeYvu8HTEPbK25PwqvVMTjAbyJ3BqA ---PILLA--------PILLARSOFETE---PILLARSO------------------------------------PILLARSOFET----

I can't get enough of my Fighter/Paladin build. Completely different than my Barbarian in PoE1. Unbroken+Shieldbearer, Spear Modal (Engaging Thrust) and Medium Shield (Block is better than The Wall IMO). It's ~5 Engagement targets. But, because enemies will pile up eventually, I run two of this Crusader type. It's bonkers strong. 10~ Engagement targets, nothing gets through, and I can split them up easily to deal woth two fronts, and have Damage dealers with reach or ranged behind.

https://www.dcode.fr/book-cipher BtF6nW Imps are troublemakers and vagabonds. They spend their days seeking out passing adventurers or animals to satisfy their amusement, which covers a variety of nuisances: toxic gasses, creating apparitions, teleporting, or stealing. = THEY Like I said, it's probably nothing. Because it didn't work on the Naga (Entry #6). EDIT: @Enduin: Ah, makes sense.

Haha, sorry. I just couldn't resist, it looked too funny xD I can give you a treat (that may not be anything) however, I did get some words out of the codes (more than I've done before) at dcode and using Book Cipher. Still doesn't make sense grammatically, but it is words~ is probably a red herring *shrug* I did read some parts of cryptoanalysis and most times it's just simple Hangman, and if BtF=THE, which is an instant I've seen several times across several "cipher solvers", then I get curious if it could just be that simple... wild guessing the answer. What are other good sentence starters? For instance, if you take the first code, BtF6nW, and take the beastiary entry text, the result becomes "THEY". I tried only the beastiary entries and got something like: "THEY - PILLAGERS RATHUN - OGRES - AND -" And then I don't remember from the top of my head the next one, but it didn't work on Naga (I tried both variants). Here's the link if you want to try it out yourself (You put the code in the upper box and the text in the lower box). https://www.dcode.fr/book-cipher Plus the tools list: https://www.dcode.fr/tools-list
