  1. This thread needs more Mike Patton * * This applies to any thread at any time, even a thread composed 100% of Mike Patton songs
  2. I think the biggest success of Watch_Dogs 2 is creating a legitimately likable group of protagonists. Marcus might just be the most likable criminal protagonist in a GTA-style game ever, even more likable than CJ from GTA: San Andreas, and the rest of DedSec all seem like people you really want to root for. All the more reason for me to play the game as non-violent as possible. I don't want my lovable gang of hackers to be murderers. Also, if any betrayal plot twist happens later on (I have no idea if there is any or not), it will make the heartbreak all that much more powerful.
  3. My Boys are clinging on to a slim chance to sneak into the playoffs (I was out and they pulled me back in) after dispatching the reeling Giants. We need to win out and get some help to hop ahead of 2 teams (most likely Atlanta and Seattle) and have the Pack drop a game, since they hold the tiebreaker over us. The C-Hox we can take care of ourselves, since we play them in 2 weeks, and it's conceivable that the Panthers could beat the cheeseheads next week. Then we also need the Falcons to slip on a banana peel along the way.
  4. I downloaded Let It Die on my PS4. It's a f2p hack & slash roguelike/roguelite. Obviously, the game has microtransactions, but I'm a lot more lenient on f2p games when it comes to that, since the devs have to make money somehow. Plus, I can try the game for free and find out for myself if the microtransaction system is fair, in which case I'll keep playing if I like the game and spend some money to reward the devs/publisher for not being greedy, or if they try to milk my wallet with ridiculous grind/paywalls, in which case I never spend a dime and stop playing. When it comes to premium games that also have microtransactions I'll never find out for myself if the microtransaction model is fair since I'd have to spend a bunch of money just to find out if I'm about to get screwed and how hard, and also because **** the devs/publisher for trying to double dip, eat a bag of ****s you greedy bastards. Anyway, I'm having a blast with the game so far. It's standard roguelike fare, climbing up levels with increasingly tougher challenges and fighting random enemies and getting random loot. I really like the audio in the game and some of the zany characters, like Uncle Death, a skateboarding grim reaper. I haven't hit anything resembling a paywall yet, but I wouldn't expect to until I climb much higher in the tower. I didn't expect to like the game so much, just gave it a whirl on a whim, but it's got me hooked. The combat isn't the most complicated ever, but there's a good bit of depth to it with all the different weapon and armor types and having to manage your stamina. Plus, weapons, especially the larger ones, feel real heavy and strike hard, with lots of gore and feedback, both from the enemies and from the player character. There's nothing worse than attacking an enemy and having it not react at all to getting hit. In this game getting hit means stumbling back, flailing around, and screaming, depending on the weapon type. It's quite satisfying.
  5. It was my GotY 2016, it's a very worthy spiritual successor to those games. I haven't hit up anyone for a game this time around (Yet? I might after I build up the courage to look through Shady's ridiculously long lists ), but I have in the past. A big thank you to everyone who has ever given away games in these threads.
  6. Witchfire looks like it could be a great FPS (the people making it definitely have FPS pedigree), but also reminded me about the fact that we'll probably never get Hellraid.
  7. Melynx and Felynes are a staple of the Monster Hunter series, you can pretty much count on meeting a bunch of them in the next game.\ I started playing Watch_Dogs 2. Early going so far, but I'm having fun. If nothing else, Marcus is a way better protagonist than the first game's protagonist. Of course, that's not exactly a high bar to clear, given that Aiden ranks quite high on the list of least likable video game protagonists. I'm doing my best to play the game as non-violent as possible. I won't even 3D print any weapons, outside of stun guns and other non-lethal gadgets, unless the game absolutely forces me to. I don't want to be a commando, I want to be a nerdy hacker who uses stealth and gadgets to get the job done. Hopefully the game doesn't force me to mow people down with assault rifles.
  8. Bullet sponge enemies are one of my biggest pet peeves. I have flat out given up on many a game for the sole reason of bullet sponge enemies. Increasing enemy health to ludicrous proportions might be the laziest way of increasing "challenge" in a game. All it increases for me is tedium.
  9. That game was my GotY 2016. Brilliantly executed spiritual successor to Commandos.
  10. Except with 45 minute long cutscenes and someone interrupting you with a phone call every 5 minutes during gameplay.
  11. My fingers are crossed that this year's show is sponsored by Doritos, Mountain Dew, Monster Energy Drink, or Taco Bell. Preferably, all of the above.
  12. Award shows are terrible. Period. Full stop. The VGAs are terrible even by award show standards. The one thing that makes them bearable is the TB & Genna Snarkathon, assuming you find The Cynical Brit bearable to begin with.
  13. I'm pretty much finished with my Xmas shopping. I'll still pick up some stocking stuffer-esque doodads, but the big important stuff is done, so that's a monkey off my back and I can now enjoy the holiday season mostly carefree. :D
  14. Still playing Dragon Quest Heroes 2 and I've settled on staff wielding Priest for my main hero's class and weapon combo. It turns out the Priest has just as much HP as the Martial Artist, but much lower strength and deftness (critical hit chance) and much higher MP and wisdom. I'll take that trade-off as the much larger MP pool combined with higher MP regen from wisdom lets me spam my high power spells (wisdom also increases spell damage), plus I have a powerful group heal (whereas martial artist only gets a self heal). I imagine the mage wielding a wand probably gets even more powerful offensive spells than my staff priest, but my spells still dish out quite a lot of DPS. I mean a mage must get something even cooler than creating a black hole or dropping meteors on fools in exchange for being so frail, but what could be cooler than dropping meteors on fools?
  15. I'm going to be all about frame rate on my next build. 35" or 36" is the ideal size monitor for the room it's going in and at that size the pixel density of 4k looks AMAZING. If I was looking at a 45" or 50 " monitor then higher resolution would definitely into consideration. I recently got to play on a 100 Hz monitor (my current monitor only runs at 60 Hz) and, while we all know the human eye can't see past 30 Hz , games running at 100 Hz looked so amazingly butter smooth. That's more important to me than pushing resolution or effects when games already look so good at 1440p or even 1080p. The goal is to build a whole new ring in 2 to 3 years that is capable of 4k at 120 Hz. Hopefully, by then prices have dropped enough on the monitors and video cards that it becomes feasible within my budget.
  16. Further evidence that it wasn't actually actually a good movie (in addition to the suspect acting, poor pacing, a leaps of logic like "I've never even seen a light saber, which end is which?... 20 second later - master swordswoman") it's just that next to the prequels it's practically Rashomon. I did very much enjoy ME2's collect a bunch of misfits to form a ragtag group vibe, though, and felt compelled throughout, even if the game lacked a truly great villain, like we had in Saren in the first game.
