What Are You Playing Now: The New Beginning Thread

In terms of ships, generally speaking: Argon - The Mario of ships, decent all around. Teladi - Slow, well armored and shielded, tons of cargo space. Paranid - Quite good overall but very expensive. Split - Fast, lots of firepower, poorly armored and shielded. -

Regardless of which starting scenario you choose scan a station, any station, and eventually you'll come across a data leak which will get you started on the main story. Beyond that, you can do whatever you want. You'll probably want to make some credits and raise your standing with some factions. Do some trading, fight enemies in a faction's sector, or do some missions (you can find missions on your map, they tend to pop up at stations). You can get more missions from data leaks. Sometimes people on stations will also give missions. Generally my main goal very early on is just to get a halfway decent ship and equip it well and to get good rep with 1 faction. Also, do the full loop around the main superhighway. That will introduce you to many of the main factions. -

I'm back to La-Mulana 2 after an extended layoff. This is my 3rd stint with the game. As much as I love the game, and I do, I have to take breaks from it because it's so difficult and it gets frustrating. It was the same way with the first game. I get stuck trying to figure out where to go and what to do. The game has tons of puzzles with cryptic riddles and clues to find. It can be really hard to figure out what a certain mural or inscription is pertaining to. I refuse to look up a walkthtough, so it's slow going. All the while I'm dying to traps, platforming, and enemies. -

I almost feel bad for Electronic Arts because of how badly their good name has been sullied by early access.

The X games are indeed the timesinkiest timesinks that ever timesinked. Brutal learning curve too. 100% worth it IMHO. Fleet battles are the best. @Hurlshot Invest in upgraded space suit thrusters and MK2 docking computer ASAP. Thank me later.

I kinda thought the next expansion might bring the Boron back, but I guess not Still, it will be cool to have Terrans back, they had some of the coolest looking ships in X3.

I finished Beyond a Steel Sky, good game overall. The first 2/3 of the game was great, the last 1/3 felt a bit rushed. I mean, on the one hand I like the fact that the last 1/3 ramps up and speeds up, a plot is generally supposed to do that as it nears the climax, but it felt a bit too sped up snd somewhat disjointed. Not terrible, by any means, though. Kind of a soul crushing ending, though it does bring things full circle. Visually, the game was a mixed bag. The cell shaded aesthetic will likely be divisive, but I personally thought it looked great. Animations looked good some of the time, kinda herky jerky occasionally, like there was a frame or two missing, and a few times the character model froze then kinda just glided into place. It very much looked like a developer working with this kind of tech for the first time, which is the case afaik. Issues aside, I hope they stick with the 3rd person perspective for future titles (Broken Sword 6 pretty please). I enjoyed playing it even with the issues and now that they have a bit of experience, it stands to reason that there would be less bumps in the road next time around if they stick with the same tech. -
That Dragon Age (4) video told me essentially nothing. It was a bunch of bog standard, catch-all statements that can describe virtually any fantasy RPG ever. In Dragon Age you can go to different places and do things, you will like some characters and dislike others. I guess they're in early development and this video was mainly a "We still exist, EA didn't ****can us yet. We swear we're working on a game." video. Fair enough. Honestly, while I no longer have any faith, I hope DA4 turns out great and sells a billion copies. I'd much rather have BioWare make great games again than get schadenfreude from anothe Bio bomb.

My folks live in southern FL, not even on the coast, but technically off the coast on an island. In the 3 1/2 years they've been there they have gone through several major hurricanes, including multiple cat 5s. They've gotten through it fine, save for losing power for several days once, but I'm glad I live some 250 miles inland. I'm going to move further inland to the NC/Tennessee mountains. I'll take my chances with black bears rather than hurricanes, tornadoes, or earthquakes.

Apropos Star Trek, I LOVED DS9, even the stretches where it "dragged", it was just such a unique series in the franchise and had the overall best cast of characters IMHO. TNG was obviously great, even if they went to the oops time paradox well too many times. The OG series still holds up on cheese factor. I liked Enterprise, but mainly because I'm a sucker for Scott Bakula, and the show delivered in the sexy Vulcan department. The stories themselves were pretty meh. I could never get into Voyager, even with the eye candy.

If traveling back in time was possible, the popular thing to do would be to kill Hitler before he rose to power. That's all well and good, but I'd kill whoever invented round shoelaces. Seriously, who thought this was a good idea? Perfectly good flat shoelaces already existed, but what if we made them round so that they would come untied on their own constantly? Brilliant!

^ That's not just Canada, geese are terrifying everywhere. If I'm on foot and I see geese, I give them a wide berth. Birds are just ***holes in general.

Given that most of the reviews I've seen of WL3 talk of varying degrees of technical issues, the fact that the Linux version got delayed may be a blessing in disguise. Once I do get to play it, I'll make all 4 characters. In WL2 I did a Threes Company theme (Jack, Janet, Chrissy, abd Mr. Roper), not sure what I'll go with this time.

I was young enough when I got to Murica that I learned English as if it was my first language, hence no Polish accent. I guess my accent is Connecticut with a few southernisms I've picked up since moving to the Carolinas. I doubt I'll ever pick up a southern drawl, but if it happens it happens. On the flip side, my Polish is quite weak. I can understand it fairly well and I can speak it well enough to get my point across, but with horrible grammar.

Polish by birth, Murican via naturalization.

Apropos, Hellish Quart. Tekken: Sword Fighting Edition?
-
It's a good looking outfit, regardless of how I feel about ol' Fidel, or Melania, for that matter. As another example, the Nazis did terrible things, but there's no denying they had impeccable fashion sense. I'm Polish, these people ravaged my homeland and even I can admit they had great uniforms Get rid of the swastikas and that's a very attractive jacket.

I know that the 3090 isn't meant for the general market, it's for the Bokishis of the world, but 400W is pretty extreme, even for an ultra luxury card. I don't think any of the infamous Fermi space heaters (fun fact: I had a GTX 460) had a power draw that high. It could all be hogwash, though. I guess we'll know for sure in about a week.
-
Supposedly, the 3090 draws an astonishing 400W of power. No wonder they put that beefy AF heat sink on the FE. Anything that sucks that much power is going to put out huge amounts of heat, no way around that. That would be pushing the 750W PSU I bought for the build, even if it is a high quality 750, especially with enthusiast OCing. Of course, I'm not shopping in the $1400 segment anyway, so it's a moot point.

The fire selector on a Big Shoota has 2 settings: Dakka and More Dakka. You can't actually switch to the Dakka setting, it's purely cosmetic, and you wouldn't want to since the answer is always More Dakka.
