Uwe Boll's Kickstarter has critical failed, causing an implosion of such magnitude... Kickstarter May Have Pushed Uwe Boll Over The Edge

Listening to a well-crafted piece played by skilled and creative musicians Extra hard apple cider Pulling out a victory by the home side at the end of a hard-fought game Creating a visually appealing 3D model Hiking to an alpine lake on a summer's day up where the air is thin and crisp Steaming hot chimichangas Solving a difficult and complex problem Watching a good comedian do his act Wisps of clouds clinging to the wooded hills on a cool autumn morning The smile of a beautiful and intelligent woman Feeling sharp after a good night's sleep Being drawn into a good computer game Getting together with the family on Christmas day Finding out that somebody I've just met is honest and honorable Staring up at the stars by a fire after the Sun has fallen

Update #98: The Bard's Tale IV and Update 1.06
rjshae replied to BAdler's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
Not sure. I don't know that specific issue. Was it happening in 1.05? If so, it may still be in there. Thank you for responding. Unfortunately, on my play through I was well past that point when 1.05 was released, so I don't know. But I haven't seen it listed in the fixes. It was mentioned here and here, among others.- 23 replies

Update #98: The Bard's Tale IV and Update 1.06
rjshae replied to BAdler's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
Great. I'll just ask this again, since I never got an answer the previous times: is the bug with the Ondra's Gift lighthouse door fixed? The one where it blocks your progress to the second floor? Thank you.- 23 replies

Gary Gygax described role-playing as a group, cooperative experience. Single player CRPGs are at best a sub par, perhaps even mediocre simulation of that interaction. Most of what has been debated is the relative effectiveness of that simulation. "When AI approximates Machine Intelligence, then many online and computer-run RPGs will move toward actual RPG activity. Nonetheless, that will not replace the experience of 'being there,' any more than seeing a theatrical motion picture can replace the stage play." -- Gygax.

I like what I've seen thus far, and I'm looking forward to the release. Naysayers => ignored.

The modern education system creates a type of class-based approach just from the fact that it takes 4-7 years to get really good at a subject. That type of dependency should be enough to differentiate sci-fi characters, while still allowing some crossover skills that don't require lengthy training to reach a suitable level of proficiency. After that it's mostly a matter of getting rid of the word 'class', and replacing it with, say, 'career'.

It might be interesting to use an Avatar-like approach; start with a diverse team of body pilots with various sci-fi like skills, then stealthily interact with the universe through remotely-controlled bodies. This would allow you to operate in a diverse range of locales as well as allowing you to pass yourself off a natives. As the game goes along, you can acquire new technology that allows you to build and equip better avatars. The goal becomes not to avoid getting killed, but to succeed in your missions even in the face of avatar losses. As long as just one avatar survives to achieve the mission purpose, then you succeed.

Good luck with your Kickstarter. Card games aren't really my thing, but I'm sure there will be plenty of card game supporters around.

I was thinking that perhaps they should just settle the World Cup location with a bidding system, subject to certain constraints. For example the restrictions could include: (1) only within a certain region (with the regions rotating), (2) only in nations that have suitable existing facilities, and (3) only one World Cup hosting to a nation per half century. That would eliminate one motivation for bribing the FIFA officials.

Looks right purdy; not really my thing though.

I view a sci-fi setting as a perfect chance to get away from those tropes personally. Perhaps even avoid classes altogether. In a future sci-fi setting there's a lot more to know, so it is even more difficult to be a jack-of-all-trades. To me that's more of a reason to use career-based classes. If you want to allow cross-over skills and capabilities, you can enable them through swappable cybernetic implants.

Witcher 3 - The women actually look like women.
rjshae replied to luzarius's topic in Computer and Console
I could swear that in the first Witcher they used the same model for every woman. Suppose they must have been short on game assets, or something like that. -
Obsidian: PoE was critical success, so kickstart KotOR III NOW!
rjshae replied to Dystar's topic in Obsidian General
There is no problem that can't be solved in 40th millenium by a high powered bolter and a good suit of power armor. When the only tool you have is a high powered bolter, every problem looks like a fleshy alien pod. -
ETA on Expansions?
rjshae replied to redneckdevil's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Personally I'd much rather have 20 hours of quality additions than 40 hours of meaningless hack-n-slay. -
You're right, that called for a square response...
