Trying the Keep on the Borderlands mod in the old ToEE game I re-purchased from GoG. (I couldn't get my disk-based install to run properly.) It's a bit grindy and not quite 100% polished, but is playable and I'm enjoying using the turn-based engine for combat again. -
Vizima had a decent, atmospheric environment. I like the people finding cover in the rain and the birds that flew off as you approached.

In this setting souls are part of reality, so a scientist would recognize that and perform research accordingly. It might be interesting to have a cold-blooded Vithrack scientist available as a support character.
